A question that interests almost all patients suffering from gouty arthritis: what can and cannot be eaten with gout ?
Based on diet No. 6 , I have compiled a sample menu for people with gout or prone to it. I hope this information is useful to you.
Note from Dr. Evdokimenko. The menu was slightly corrected by me - I removed some absurdities from the “classic” version of the table of this diet, and made the description of the diet more understandable. So:
Bread and flour products
Wheat and rye bread for gout can be eaten without restrictions.
But some nutritionists recommend partially limiting the consumption of pastry products.
Recommended are vegetarian soups with the addition of various vegetables and cereals, again vegetarian borscht and cabbage soup, okroshka, beetroot soup, and milk soups.
It is advisable to exclude from the diet or severely limit: meat and fish broths, and soups based on them; mushroom soups and broths, soups with sorrel or spinach.
Meat, poultry and eggs
Boiled beef, rabbit, chicken or turkey can be eaten relatively calmly, at least 1-3 times a week. But I’ll emphasize once again - it’s better to cook them boiled. You can also make steam cutlets from the same boiled meat.
It is advisable to exclude or severely limit the following meat products in your diet: veal, chicken, lamb, pork, kidneys, liver, brains, sausages, smoked meats, canned meat.
Eggs: you can eat one egg per day, maximum 2 eggs of any preparation
Low-fat boiled fish can be eaten 1-2 times a week.
Fatty, salted or smoked fish, and canned fish - it is advisable to greatly limit all this or completely exclude it from your diet.
Milk and dairy products
Natural milk and dairy dishes, kefir, yogurt, natural cottage cheese and in dishes, mild cheese - without restrictions. Most nutritionists believe that they are useful for gout.
Exceptions are sharp and salty cheeses, feta cheese; If you have gout, you should eat them as rarely as possible.
Pasta, cereals and legumes
Various cereals of any preparation, porridges made from them, and pasta are recommended (in reasonable quantities, of course). The exception is oatmeal, which is questionable.
It is advisable to exclude or severely limit any legume products in your diet: especially beans themselves, beans and lentils, and dishes made from them.
Recommended: potatoes, beets, carrots, zucchini, pumpkin, sweet peppers, eggplants, white cabbage of any preparation, cucumbers - just not salted or pickled.
Tomatoes are questionable. Some nutritionists call for limiting their consumption in case of gout; others claim that tomatoes are even beneficial for gout.
I think that a patient suffering from gout should focus on his own condition in this matter. If your body reacts calmly to tomatoes, you can eat them without any special restrictions. But if tomatoes aggravate your condition and provoke gout attacks, your consumption of tomatoes should be limited. I would like to note that it is not common, but I have met people in whom tomatoes provoked gout attacks. Over 20 years of practice, I have had 6 or 7 such patients. Perhaps, in addition to gout, they had some other specific features in metabolism, and that is why the body reacted so strangely to tomatoes. Or the tomatoes were “chemically contaminated”.
Fruits, berries, and sweets
Recommended: any fruits and berries, both fresh and after heat treatment. Honey, jam, and sugar are also not contraindicated.
Questionable - figs, raspberries, chocolate
Considered useful: weak tea, especially with milk; weak coffee with milk, fruit and vegetable juices, rosehip decoction.
It is advisable to limit: cocoa, strong tea and strong coffee,
Harmful: alcoholic drinks, yeast drinks.
Note from Dr. Evdokimenko.
Patients often ask me which alcoholic drinks are “less harmful” and “more harmful” for gout. According to my observations, the most potent triggers for gout attacks are beer, red wine, whiskey and cognac.
Vodka, apparently, is a “purer” drink - and does not act as strongly (in small doses).
But large doses of alcohol will trigger an attack no matter what you drink.
Healthy - vegetable salads; You can eat: vinaigrette, mild cheese.
Harmful: spicy or salty snacks, smoked foods, canned food, sausages.
Sauces and spices
Recommended: sauces based on vegetable broth, tomato, sour cream, milk; vanillin, cinnamon.
Harmful: sauces based on meat or fish broth, mushroom broth, pepper, mustard, horseradish.
Useful: butter and vegetable oils.
Harmful: lamb, beef and pork fat, cooking fats.
Article by Dr. Evdokimenko© for the book “Arthritis”, published in 2004.
Gouty arthritis is a disease that, unfortunately, cannot be completely cured. A person who has this disease and wants to maintain their own health can make gout attacks less painful and faster. Therefore, he should take care not only about taking medications in a timely manner, but also about what he can eat if he has gout.
In addition, there is a table of foods whose consumption is prohibited if you have gout. For every gout sufferer, the right diet is of great importance. After all, special dietary nutrition helps to release lactic acid in the body, normalize its level in the blood and strengthen the immune system.
So what foods should be included in the gout menu and what foods should you avoid to stay healthy?
When joint tissues change, it is no longer relevant to talk about preventing the disease through proper nutrition. Therefore, a person with gout just needs to know what not to eat if they have gout.
It is known that food of animal origin cannot be eaten in large quantities even by a healthy person. As a rule, gouty arthritis occurs in people whose diet takes up the lion's share of such foods.
Therefore, people with gout should not get too carried away with animal fats. They can provoke an attack of the disease and contribute to disruption of the functionality of the intestines and stomach.
People with gout are often upset that they cannot eat meat broths. But meat products increase the level of uric acid in the body, as a result of which it is more beneficial for gout to consume vegetable soups that do not contain beans or peas. But in the process of preparing such dishes you need to adhere to some rules.
Beans and other legumes are rich in microelements that help tissue formation, therefore, they are useful for a healthy person. However, their use is dangerous for gout. After all, a simple soup that contains peas or beans can cause a gout attack.
People with gout should also drink the right drinks. But you should give up alcohol forever in order to slow down the pathological changes occurring in the joints and not lose the ability to move independently.
In addition, you should forget about strong coffee or tea. It is better to give preference to green tea, which helps restore purine metabolism.
A person with gout should drink at least 2 liters of fluid every day. So, his body will be able to remove lactic acid salts. But if this disease is accompanied by impaired kidney function, then this rule should not be followed.
In addition, with gouty arthritis, it is forbidden to use spices, with the only exception being bay leaves. You cannot fry soups; it will be enough to pour a little vegetable oil into the broth.
Also, people with gout are not allowed to eat mushrooms, so they should forget about dishes containing beans and mushrooms.
It is very important to control the amount of salt added to food. Indeed, with gouty arthritis, salt metabolism in the body is disrupted.
At the same time, people with gout are prohibited from eating lard, meat of young animals and offal. And eating even one piece of smoked meat, sausage, as well as fish and beans can provoke a gout attack.
In addition, fatty and salty types of cheeses are included in the category of prohibited foods.
During the period of exacerbation of the disease, the diet should be even more strict. At this time, you should not eat fatty fish, meat, or beans. And salt should be completely eliminated until the attack subsides.
People with gout can eat all types of nuts. The only exception is peanuts, which have the same effect on the body as fatty meats and beans. In addition, nuts are useful foods for gout, as they support the body's defenses.
Also, the diet of gout must include berries, vegetables and fruits. The group of permitted products includes:
A diet for gouty arthritis involves consuming vegetable and fruit juices, dried fruit compote and rosehip decoction. You should also consult a doctor in this matter, who will give recommendations based on the clinical picture of the disease.
In addition, those with gout should remove greens from their daily diet, but sometimes you can allow yourself to eat a little dill. And if the patient feels well, then he can prepare dishes with parsley and lettuce, but the amount of this greenery should be strictly limited.
Regarding dairy products, their consumption is prohibited. But there is an important rule here: milk cannot be consumed in its pure form; it must be combined with various cereals.
These rules also apply to butter. And if an exacerbation of the disease occurs, then dairy products must be removed from the diet.
Eating porridges made from whole grain cereals significantly alleviates the condition of gout, so they should occupy a significant place in the patient’s diet. At the same time, you can eat oatmeal, but only in small quantities.
Many people suffering from gout are often more frightened not by the very fact of limiting the motor function of the joints, but by the need for strict adherence to the diet. After all, you can’t eat salty, fried and spicy foods, but what can you eat in this case?
Gouty arthritis forces a person to live according to certain rules. If they are not followed, then the patient’s health condition will constantly deteriorate. Each violation of the eating pattern contributes to the progression of the disease.
It is also worth remembering psychological characteristics. If a person is in a depressed state, then the vitality of his body decreases. Therefore, the only way out for gout is to learn how to cook delicious meals, including vegetables or fruits, lean fish and meat (chicken).
If you have gout, it is important not to overeat, so you need to eat food 5 times a day, dividing it into small portions. All products must be steamed or boiled.
In addition, everyone can learn how to easily cook delicious porridge or pasta. Soups that include vegetables are also very tasty, so it is advisable to master all the secrets of preparing vegetarian dishes; this will be your diet and treatment for gout.
Fruits and berries are rich in various microelements and vitamins. Apples, raspberries, apricots, and grapes, which can be seasoned with aromatic honey, are suitable desserts. In addition, this natural product brings much more benefits than eating chocolate or cocoa.
Also, gout sufferers are allowed to eat 1 chicken egg per day. But you can not only boil it, but also add it to a vegetable salad, pasta or vegetable casserole.
Baked fruits and vegetables are no less useful. And although in Russia such dishes are not considered a delicacy, in European countries this method of preparation is common.
Moreover, foods, such as fish, baked in the oven or on the grill are a good prevention of gouty arthritis. Therefore, they should be included in the daily menu of elderly people.
What can you eat if you have gout? The answer to this question will be easy to find by consulting with a nutritionist and primary care physician. Indeed, in this disease, nutrition plays the same role as medical therapy. By eating the right foods and following a routine, you can support your body and bring gout under control. But for this you need to be patient and change your usual lifestyle.
One of the causes of gout is considered to be a violation of uric acid metabolism. The body cannot cope with the elimination of salts and acids on its own and accumulates them on the joints. Purine compounds, containing nitrogen and having a cyclic structure, enter the human body with food. During the breakdown process they form uric acid.
Meat is just such a product. It contains large quantities of purines, so it is completely excluded from the diet of gout patients. This list can also be supplemented with offal. These are kidneys, lungs, and liver of animal origin. Lard is also added to them. Affects the body like fatty meat and peanuts. It is excluded, but all other nuts are allowed to be consumed.
Some patients boil meat to slightly reduce the amount of purines, but one should not get carried away with such broths. There are many substances that produce uric acid in concentrated meat broths and soups from bags, and smoked sausages. If you have gout, you can only eat lamb and chicken.
Fried or salted fish, canned food, and caviar are completely excluded from the diet, especially with multiple attacks of the disease. Nutritionists recommend only cod when creating a menu.
During fasting, it is often suggested to use mushrooms instead of meat. Their decoctions are used in the preparation of soups and borscht. But gout will not tolerate such a diet, especially if artificially grown mushrooms were used. Only forest mushrooms will not provoke an exacerbation.
The principle of choosing these products lies in the quantitative indicators of purines and oxalic acid that they contain. First on this list are legumes. Beans, peas, beans, peanuts, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, rhubarb, spinach, and celery are completely excluded from the diet. For gout, tomatoes and corn can be eaten in small quantities, and tomato juice can be eaten in small portions during the period of remission. It is recommended to prepare sauerkraut without using salt, but with the addition of cranberries and apples. The brine obtained as a result of fermentation is very useful for gout. Some doctors advise using seaweed - kelp - as a treatment. It helps remove uric acid salts from the body. Sometimes it is used in powder form, which is diluted in a glass of water and drunk once a day for two weeks.
Zucchini, eggplant, white cabbage, cucumbers, and potatoes are quite suitable for use in the diet and creating a diet menu. Juice from some of these vegetables will be useful, as it activates metabolism and helps the body cleanse itself. To make juice from potatoes, you first need to grate them and squeeze through cheesecloth. Should be taken in courses of ten days. Onion juice is prepared by boiling it in its peel and straining through a sieve or cheesecloth. Take before meals.
A salad is recommended from greens, and parsley and dill should be used in small quantities.
Almost all fruits are useful. You need to be careful with grapes and raspberries. Regular apples, especially baked ones, are good for reducing salt deposits. They could be added to all salads. Bananas, cherries, and blueberries are useful, but you should not get carried away with viburnum because it is a diuretic. And with gout, you cannot dehydrate the body; the cells must be filled with water. But a few berries won't do you much harm.
If you have gout, you can eat pomegranate. It normalizes cholesterol and uric acid levels in the blood.
This vegetable has long been famous for its miraculous properties, including for the treatment of gout. For this, infusions and pain-relieving compresses are most often used.
During an exacerbation, an infusion of garlic (three pieces) and vinegar (9%, 500 ml) is rubbed into the sore spots. Pre-infuse for two weeks. The infusion relieves redness, swelling and pain.
A paste of four lemons and three heads of garlic, poured with boiling water (2 cups) or vodka (150 ml), is infused for three days in a warm place. Then the infusion is filtered. Take 40 g once a day before meals. You can add honey (20 g) to the infusion, which will only enhance the healing effect.
What you can eat if you have gout, and which foods will not cause an aggravation, can only be found out after a full examination. You will have to change your diet. This will include drinking fluids, avoiding strong alcoholic drinks and sweets. It is better to replace mayonnaise, which you so want to season your salad with, with vegetable oil, and even then in small quantities. Strict control of body weight is necessary every day.
Only such changes can improve your health and reduce the load on sore joints.
To prevent recurrent attacks, it is recommended to consume only approved foods for gout. Nutrition is supplemented with exercise and medication. Most often, it is an unhealthy diet with a predominance of meat and beer that is the trigger for impaired purine metabolism and the deposition of uric acid crystals in the joints and kidneys. A balanced diet prevents the development of repeated attacks.
Nutrition for gout should be prepared taking into account the following recommendations:
Table of foods you can eat for gout:
List of foods that you should absolutely not eat if you have gout on your legs:
Under no circumstances should a patient eat pickled cucumbers.
If you have gout, you can drink plenty of water. It is recommended to drink weak herbal teas, bran infusion, unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, compotes, fruit drinks and jelly. Excess uric acid metabolism is eliminated faster by drinking fresh cucumber juice daily in the morning up to 200 ml, alkaline waters with a low degree of mineralization. Whole milk or low-fat milk products help reduce the concentration of purine compounds. Caffeine in small quantities also reduces uric acid levels. It is recommended to drink at least 2 liters per day.
Contraindications for gout for large amounts of fluid include pathologies of the heart, kidneys and blood vessels.
The diet for gout recommends limiting the amount of animal proteins. Boiled sausage, frankfurters, and canned food are strictly prohibited. Healthy foods include pumpkin seeds, various nuts and soft cheese. Sunflower seeds can be consumed as a dessert - patients with gouty arthritis can eat halva. Sesame is used as food in salads, desserts and dressings.
Corn is considered difficult to digest and is limited in the diet. Nicotinic acid slows down the excretion of uric acid metabolic products, and glutamic acid serves as a source of ammonia, which is toxic to the kidneys. White cabbage normalizes the gastrointestinal tract and energy metabolism. Broccoli and cauliflower protect against infections and kidney stones. Pickled vegetables are prohibited due to their high salt concentration.
Foods are rich in potassium and have a diuretic effect, which can cause an increase in urate concentrations. Baked potatoes and pumpkin for gout change the pH of the blood plasma to the alkaline side and neutralize the effect of acids, including uric acid. Vegetables are high in calories and are recommended as a side dish for lunch.
The trace elements contained in garlic help reduce uric acid levels.
Zucchini is allowed for gout. They are low in calories but high in nutrients. The pulp, seeds and inflorescences are consumed. Squash caviar stimulates the elimination of oxalates and urates, which prevents the formation of kidney stones. Enriching the diet with eggplants can provoke a painful attack due to nicotinic acid, which increases the concentration of uric acid salts.
To prevent urolithiasis, it is useful to eat squash caviar.
In addition to those listed, you can eat other vegetable crops, and some are strictly prohibited:
Beets are very useful for this disease.

Berry fruits are useful:

Useful foods for gout: citrus fruits, pineapples, pears, green apples, maclura, persimmons, dried fruits, pears and melon. Thanks to its high bromelain content, pineapple reduces weight and stress on joints. The diet during gout is supplemented with lingonberries and drinks made from them. A good breakfast option for gout is fruit salads, for example, avocado, low-fat cottage cheese with berries. Natural fruit ice cream is allowed.
Fruits such as figs, grapes and raisins, and raspberries should be excluded from food for gout. Among dried fruits, dried apricots and dates are considered the most saturated with uric acid and urates. Their use is prohibited, the level of purine bases increases, breakdown products accumulate and settle in the cavity of the joints, between the fibers of the tendons, as well as in the internal organs, especially the kidneys. Plums in large quantities in case of gout promote fluid removal and concentrate urine and plasma, so they must be excluded from the diet. The urate content increases, salts are deposited in the kidneys and joints. Plum causes appetite and weight gain.
Nutrition plays an important role in the treatment of metabolic disorders. Menu correction allows you to limit substances that aggravate the course of the disease. A properly selected diet is one of the pillars of long remission without relapse. This is why a proper diet for gout is so important.
Gout is a disease of bones and joints, expressed by inflammatory processes, arthritis and arthrosis, limiting movement and accompanied by acute pain. In turn, inflammation begins due to disruption of protein metabolism in the body.
In some diseases, the kidneys cannot cope with the disposal of waste from the body. Uric acid, one of the metabolic products, accumulates in the blood. Its salts and urates are deposited in the tissues, affecting the joints and causing inflammation.
The purpose of the diet is to limit the intake of purine bases into the body, substances from which uric acid is formed as a result of metabolic processes.
There are several basic postulates that must be followed when creating a menu for gout:
The low-purine diet is based on table number 6, aimed at normalizing metabolic processes involving purines and shifting the reaction of body fluids to the alkaline side.
List of products that cause aggravation:
Limit and strictly control the consumption of whole milk and butter, tomatoes, radishes, turnips, plums and prunes.
Since the accumulation of urates is often associated with kidney disease, table number 7 becomes an additional guideline in creating a menu. Onions and garlic, carbonated sweet drinks, and mineral water with a high sodium content are added to the list of prohibited foods.
The main feature is the almost complete exclusion of table salt (to prevent edema and reduce the load on the kidneys), as well as limiting fluid intake to 1 liter per day.
Excess weight aggravates the progression of gout, therefore, for people suffering from obesity, the recommendations of table No. 8 are applicable. Calorie intake is reduced by limiting sugar and sugar-containing products, the amount of animal fats, and eliminating flavor enhancers and seasonings. There are restrictions on the amount of table salt and liquid, as in diet No. 7. On the other hand, the emphasis is on fiber, vegetables and fruits. Dishes are stewed, boiled, simmered, steamed.
Diet No. 6 according to Pevzner recommends:
Taking into account medical advice and excluding prohibited foods, you can prepare nutritious and tasty meals suitable for men and women.
To prepare kvass, oats are sorted, washed with running water and left to soak for 2-3 hours. After soaking, the water is drained and the grains are washed several times with cold water.
0.5 kg of oats is poured into 2 liters of water and added? Art. Sahara. The products are placed in a glass container of sufficient volume, the throat is tied with gauze folded in several layers and left in a warm place.
After a few days, the kvass is ready for use. If desired, you can add lemon or citric acid, sugar, honey. Unsweetened kvass serves as the basis for making okroshka. After straining, the grains are stored in the refrigerator; they can be used several more times, similarly filled with water and sugar.
To prepare an omelet you will need:
Boil or simmer vegetables until half cooked. Beat the egg with milk until foamy, add vegetables to the mixture. Grease a baking dish with butter, pour the egg-vegetable mixture into it and place in an oven preheated to 180 C for 8-10 minutes.
The list of ingredients includes:
Semolina is poured with kefir and left for 30-40 minutes to swell. Grate the carrots on a fine grater and simmer in a frying pan with water and butter. After cooling, the carrots are mixed with semolina in kefir, sugar, salt, soda (quenched with vinegar), and eggs are added.
The finished dough is poured into a greased mold and baked for 40 minutes at an oven temperature of 180-200 C.
To prepare the dessert you need:
Soak the gelatin in water and leave to swell. Add sugar and vanillin to the cottage cheese, beat in a blender. Grind the cookies. Sort the strawberries, wash them, cut them into small pieces. Combine cookies, strawberries and curd mixture, mix well.
Heat the swollen gelatin and pour it into the curd mixture in a thin stream, stirring constantly. Pour the finished dessert mixture into the mold and leave in the refrigerator overnight until hardened. Decorate with berries.
Wash the cherries, remove the stems and seeds, mash or mince, and squeeze out the juice. Add water to the berries and bring to a boil. Strain, add sugar and boil again.
The starch is stirred in cold water and poured into the hot broth in a thin stream, stirring constantly. The broth is not removed from the heat until it reaches the desired thickness, after which it is mixed with the previously squeezed juice. With prolonged cooking you can get cherry jelly.
For gout, it is extremely important not only to follow a diet, but also to arrange one fasting day per week (optional):
Proper nutrition for gout can relieve pain and relapses of the disease. If you have any doubts about whether you can eat certain foods if you have gout, you should consult a doctor. Self-discipline and strict control of the food that goes on the table, along with taking medications, will help stop the disease and lead a full life.
Gout is a chronic disease of the joints and organs caused by dysfunction of the kidneys in removing substances from the body. One of these substances is uric acid - a breakdown product of purines - compounds that the body receives from meat foods. Due to a failure in the process of removing substances, uric acid accumulates in the body and forms deposits of uric acid salts in the kidneys and joints.
As a result of salt deposition, growths appear on the joints, which quickly become inflamed and begin to hurt. This indicates the development of a chronic form of gout. The acute form of gout is considered to be a gout attack, the onset of which is accompanied by acute pain and significant inflammation in the patient’s joints.
A gout attack most often occurs at night and can last for several days. In case of a short attack, it can be stopped at home. However, more often than not, medical attention is needed. Periods of remission between attacks vary from several weeks to several years. The frequency of attacks depends on the intensity of treatment.
It is impossible to completely get rid of gout, but you can minimize its symptoms and avoid exacerbation. To do this, you must adhere to a course of treatment, which includes a combination of medications and a strict diet.
Medicines for the treatment of the disease are prescribed by a qualified specialist depending on the patient’s condition. Depending on the direction of action, drugs for acute and chronic symptoms of gout are distinguished. Drugs of the first group have an analgesic effect and relieve inflammation. Medicines to treat chronic symptoms reduce the synthesis of uric acid and remove excess uric acid from the body. A diet for gout also helps to eliminate the saturation of the body with uric acid, as well as normalize the level of content and the process of its elimination.
During dietary nutrition in the treatment of an illness, foods containing purines and that can provoke a gout attack are first eliminated from the patient’s menu. The diet of what you can eat for gout consists of dishes based on cereals, fruits and vegetables.
Thus, the list of products that are prohibited for consumption with gout will include: lard, crayfish, all types of meat, fish and sausage products, canned foods, mushrooms, sharp cheeses and dishes with a high content of spices, legumes (peas, soybeans, corn ), chocolate, vegetables and herbs high in oxalic acid. It is also necessary to eliminate alcoholic beverages, strong tea, coffee, and cocoa from the diet.
Oxalic acid in vegetables can disrupt metabolic processes and provoke an attack. Therefore, while following a diet for gout, it is forbidden to eat: eggplants, sorrel, spinach, lettuce, radishes. Also, if you have gout, you should not eat raspberries, as they are a berry rich in purines.
It should be remembered that any non-compliance with the diet for gout will minimize the effects of medications. It is also necessary to avoid excesses or fasting, as this increases the level of uric acid and leads to an attack.
There are a number of foods during the diet that you can eat with gout with restrictions:
The basis of dietary nutrition is liquid and semi-liquid food in combination with salads, fruits and plenty of drink. There should be at least four meals during the day. Servings should weigh a total of 200g.
As already mentioned, any overeating or fasting of the patient is contraindicated. Failure to adhere to portions or diet may make the disease worse. Be sure to drink at least 2 liters of fluid. It is advisable not to drink food, but to drink liquids between meals, on an empty stomach and before bed, in order to avoid fermentation processes in the body. Foods you can eat if you have gout:
Berries such as watermelon and melon have beneficial diuretic and cleansing properties. Due to the content of potassium salts and many vitamins and minerals in their composition, they are able to dissolve and remove deposits of uric acid salts from the body.
In most cases, when gout is diagnosed, the patient is prescribed a gentle diet (treatment table No. 6), which includes a varied menu of dishes and the inclusion of boiled meat in the diet 2-3 times a week. By adhering to the prescribed course of dietary nutrition for gout, you can significantly reduce the content of uric acid in the body, stabilize the process of its elimination from the body and reduce the symptoms of the disease.
The patient can schedule a detailed daily diet himself, guided by food restrictions, required portion sizes and fluid intake. Or you can contact a professional nutritionist who, based on the individual condition and limitations of the patient, will create a detailed program.
However, it is useless to prescribe nutrition without clinical examination of the problem. Following a diet gives significant results in preventing the development of gout. As for the fight against the disease itself, dietary nutrition is effective only in combination with drug treatment.
Found 33 doctors treating the disease: Gout
The development of gout is determined by an increase in the concentration of uric acid in the blood serum. There are two types of this disease; they do not differ significantly from each other, but have their own specific characteristics. Primary gout is not associated with other diseases and is introduced into the body regardless of their presence; it is caused by poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle. Secondary is considered as a consequence of disorders in the urinary tract, and progresses against the background of ailments affecting the kidneys. Their treatment is similar. Microcrystals of uric acid are deposited in the joints, and immune system cells are quickly sent to them, protecting the body from harmful elements by absorbing foreign particles. Their interaction entails the active release of enzymes and mediators that provoke the inflammatory process.
The manifestations of gout are very specific:
A missed diagnosis and ignored treatment, unchanged diet and lifestyle will ensure a re-exacerbation, and gout will make itself felt again. Attacks will become more frequent, new and larger joints will be involved and destroyed, the inflammation will become chronic, ugly bone compactions will form, and a person attacked by an insidious disease will begin to suffer from constant excruciating pain. In tissues such as the forearms, ears and Achilles tendons, crystals can also accumulate and become ulcerated into a white, crumbly substance. Symptoms get worse. The kidneys inevitably become involved in the destructive process, so gout is usually accompanied by urolithiasis, and kidney failure looms on the horizon when there is no treatment. The threat of a stroke hangs over the patient like a sword of Damocles.
Treatment is divided into two stages: relief and therapy aimed at confronting the disease and preventing relapse. Cupping is carried out using medications prescribed by a doctor. After the attack has subsided, the high point of therapy comes, which is a complex event and includes a whole group of actions aimed at fighting the disease and stopping its progression. Gout forces you to adjust your diet and lifestyle:
It is recommended not to drink alcoholic beverages
You can safely consume any vegetables (with the exception of food that irritates the gastric mucosa) and fruits, low-fat dairy and fermented milk products, chicken and quail eggs. You can eat butter and vegetable oils, whole grain cereals, honey and all nuts except peanuts in small quantities; because of it, the results that the treatment has achieved may well go down the drain. Recipes for gout take into account all the requirements. It is important to ensure that the products are natural and do not contain preservatives or foreign impurities. Should be avoided like fire: beans, mushrooms, peas, lard, spices, smoked foods, chocolate and cocoa. Spices and alcohol are strictly excluded and are not included in the diet until complete recovery. They catastrophically worsen the symptoms. You should also not drink tea or coffee.
Therapeutic nutrition for gout is an issue that can be emphasized, because ridding the body of harmful substances and toxins accumulated in it speeds up recovery as much as possible and increases the time interval between relapses. Nutrition during an exacerbation of gout does not differ from its counterpart recommended during remissions, and is simply accompanied by strict bed rest. Treatment dictates strict rules regarding menu planning.
Nutrition for illness
The patient's diet should not contain animal proteins, fats or easily digestible carbohydrates. Meals are made frequent and portions are small. Once a week there is a fasting day, during which you can eat only vegetables and fruits, but without adding salt, and drink water. Whether to cook vegetables or eat them raw is left to the discretion of the patient for whom the food is being selected. Now at the peak of popularity is the buckwheat-apple fasting day, which is included in the treatment of many gout. To prepare porridge, take 600 ml of milk, and cook 100 g of buckwheat in it for about 10 minutes, then remove the pan from the heat and place it in a warm place. In 40 minutes the porridge will be ready. It is forbidden to abuse apples; it is enough to eat 300 g of these fruits per day, and it is best to boil them and drink the resulting infusion as a bite with the aromatic pulp. The axiom that every gout sufferer should know is this simple truth: a balanced diet works wonders.
The recipes are simple; you don’t need the skills of an elite restaurant chef to prepare tasty and healthy food; you just need to follow the instructions.
The beets are boiled in a separate container until half cooked and grated on a coarse grater, after which all the vegetables are placed in one saucepan and cooked until fully cooked. Borscht can be seasoned with sour cream and sprinkled with herbs.
Recipes for gout patients do not stand out among their fellows in sophistication, but they will take their rightful place in the kitchen of any housewife. Food prepared using them delights with excellent taste.
The onion is chopped and fried in oil, mixed with diced carrots, and stewed. When the carrots are half cooked, add finely chopped eggplants and boiled potatoes to the frying pan. You can add a couple of basil leaves to the dish for flavor. The stew is flavored with sour cream and simmered for half an hour.
It is a misconception that the diet of people suffering from gout is poor. The recipes bring to the attention of the public the technology of preparing both first and second courses.
Raw potatoes are grated on a coarse grater and excess water is squeezed out of them. Eggs are beaten into the potato mixture and either garlic pressed or finely chopped is added. Everything is thoroughly mixed, and the excess water is drained again. Place grated potatoes on a heated frying pan and press them down with a fork so that the potato pancakes come out thin and flat and are thoroughly fried.
Potato pancakes are served with sour cream.
Doctors recommend drinking mineral water as a wonderful nutritional supplement that makes treatment more effective. It is recommended to drink it daily, promising that the magical water will remove salts, leach uric acid crystals and relieve pain. But it is worth remembering that highly carbonated mineral water will not please you with the long-awaited recovery and will not alleviate symptoms, but will cause harm.
