Varicose veins in the stomach tissues

Varicose veins develop when the blood supply to the stomach is disrupted. The condition is usually accompanied by changes in the structure of blood vessels, such as dilation, elongation, and the formation of loops or nodes. Pathology appears against the background of liver damage, in particular with cirrhosis. An invariable companion of varicose veins in the tissues of the stomach is small or heavy bleeding.

Descriptions and features

Gastric varicose veins are a dangerous pathology. The condition is characterized by an increase, often dilatation, of the veins of the organ with the formation of blood clots. The insidiousness of the disease lies in the absence of symptoms at an early stage, so timely diagnosis is almost impossible. Mostly men suffer from this disease. The main provoking factors for the development of the disease, as well as liver damage, are:

  • alcohol;
  • unhealthy diet;
  • uncontrolled drug treatment.
  • Gastric varicose veins have a poor clinical picture. Symptoms are often similar to other gastrointestinal pathologies. However, there are distinctive features:

  • Bloody vomiting with black vomit, which indicates the opening of gastric bleeding. Vomiting may be frequent and contain pink mucus.
  • Increased heart rate with frequent interruptions.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • The initial stages of gastric varicose veins are often accompanied by severe heartburn, which, although it causes discomfort, does not cause the need to go to the doctor. As the pathology develops, gastric bleeding begins. This condition is accompanied by symptoms such as:

  • ascites, when free extrudate accumulates in the peritoneum, which provokes a strong increase in the size of the abdomen;
  • profuse, bloody vomiting that does not cause pain;
  • tachycardia with erratic and rapid pulse;
  • hypotension, characterized by a sharp decrease in blood pressure;
  • hypovolemic shock, accompanied by a sharp decrease in the effective volume of circulating blood.
  • Causes of gastric varicose veins

    Gastric varices appear as a result of portal hypertension or increased pressure in the portal vein. The normal pressure in this vein is up to 6 mm Hg. Art. If this value jumps to 12-20 mm Hg. Art., blood flow is disrupted and vasodilation occurs. The root cause of portal hypertension is compression of the portal vein, which can cause thrombosis or stone passage in gallstone disease. Other causes of gastric varicose veins are:

  • dysfunction of the pancreas, stomach;
  • cirrhosis, hepatitis;
  • echinecoccosis;
  • tuberculosis;
  • polycystic disease;
  • acquired or congenital fibrosis;
  • sarcoidosis;
  • tumors, cysts, adhesions of various etiologies;
  • aneurysms of the arteries of the spleen or liver;
  • eosinophilic gastroenteritis;
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • general cardiovascular failure.
  • Sometimes gastric varicose veins are preceded by a sudden load: heavy lifting, severe fever. Rarely, the disease is congenital. The reasons for this anomaly have not yet been discovered.

    Detection of varicose veins is possible only through instrumental examination. For this purpose the following methods are used:

  • General and clinical blood tests, which are necessary to assess the general condition of the patient.
  • Functional and hepatic examinations to determine coagulopathy.
  • X-ray with contrast (barium sulfate), carried out to assess the functionality of the digestive tract.
  • Esophagogastroscopy, used to visualize the condition of the internal walls of the stomach. The method is highly accurate, but requires increased attention and accuracy, since the affected tissues are fragile and the probe can cause bleeding.
  • Ultrasound of the abdominal organs, which is necessary to confirm the diagnosis.
  • There are three treatment approaches:

    The first two regimens are used in the early stages or after effective control of bleeding. Late stages are treated only surgically, as the risk of death associated with hypovolemic shock is high. The main approaches to treating gastric varicose veins are presented below.

    The essence of the method is to introduce special medical glue into the affected vessels endoscopically. A certain frequency of the procedure is required, which is determined by the doctor individually. More often, the technique is applied once every 7 or 30 days, and is completed when a permanent scar is formed.

    Surgery can be performed in three ways:

  • Ligation of dilated veins. For this, a special rubber bandage is used. The effectiveness of the technique is higher than sclerotherapy.
  • Shunting in intrahepatic tissues. The technique is necessary to lower blood pressure. To do this, a stent is inserted into the middle of the liver. The procedure is performed under X-ray control. The goal is to create a connecting bridge between the hepatic and portal veins.
  • Splenorenal shunting. The technique is used for preventive purposes - to prevent the development of bleeding. To do this, the veins of the spleen and left kidney are combined with a shunt.
  • Drug therapy for varicose veins

    The essence of the method is to regularly take such means as:

  • "Vasopressin" - to restore the normal state of narrowed blood vessels;
  • nitrate containing “Nitroglycerin” - to lower pressure in the portal vein;
  • "Somatostatin" or "Octreotide" - to lower blood pressure in the internal organs and restore the normal state of dilated blood vessels.
  • To treat gastric varicose veins, it is important to maintain proper nutrition. The basic principles are as follows:

  • Fractional meals in small portions - up to 6 times a day.
  • The last snack is 3 hours before going to bed.
  • Increasing in the diet the amount of foods rich in vitamins such as:
    • vitamin E (greens, yolk, corn or sunflower oil);
    • vitamin C (berries, potatoes, fresh peppers, all types of citrus fruits);
    • rutin (nuts, tea, grapefruit, currants);
    • bioflavonoids (cherries);
    • plant fibers (legumes, fresh vegetables and fruits).
    • Organize plenty of drinking - up to 2.5 liters of water per day.
    • Complete rejection of harmful products:
      • alcohol;
      • concentrated black tea, coffee;
      • sweets and sugar;
      • hot seasonings and spices;
      • flour products.
      • Preferred culinary processing is boiling, baking in the oven, stewing, steaming.
      • Dishes must be warm.
      • The essence of preventive measures is to maintain healthy veins. To do this you should:

      • monitor the condition of the liver;
      • follow the doctor's recommendations exactly;
      • regulate high blood pressure in a timely manner;
      • follow the rules of a healthy lifestyle (giving up bad habits, proper nutrition).
      • The most severe complication of gastric varicose veins is bleeding. They can even occur from overeating due to severe thinning of the walls of the organ. The amount of bleeding may vary, as will their frequency. The outcome depends on this. Bleeding causes severe vomiting, chronic iron deficiency.

        The condition of the body and its performance depend on the stability of the nervous system. When a person is exposed to significant and prolonged stress, anxiety, or depression, the digestive system suffers first. Neurological causes of the development of varicose pathology:

      • Chronic state of hatred.
      • Feeling of chronic fatigue, severe overstrain.
      • Loss of strength and spirit, disappointment and moral fatigue.
      • Therefore, during treatment it is important to have a positive attitude and eliminate all irritating factors.

        Mortality with gastric varicose veins is high due to the severity of complications and associated pathologies. More often, problems with the blood vessels of the main digestive organ, complicated by bleeding, are associated with progressive cirrhosis.

        In 79% of cases, bleeding stops on its own with a mortality rate of 50%. After successful relief of the disease, the risk of the disease returning is 55-75%.

        Varicose veins of the esophagus

        Varicose veins of the esophagus are characterized by an increase in the lumen and protrusion of the walls, which is accompanied by the appearance of tortuosity in the area of the vessels. This pathology resembles the formation of nodes and requires timely, qualified treatment. Varicose veins of the esophagus are called phlebectasia and can develop at any age. With the development of complications of phlebectasia, life-threatening conditions develop.

        Reasons for the development of phlebectasia

        Varicose veins of the esophagus

        As a rule, varicose veins occur with portal hypertension. This condition provokes an increase in pressure in the portal vein. In this case, there is a flow of blood from the location of the digestive organs to the liver, which occurs due to blockage of hepatic blood flow. High pressure in the area of the portal vein leads to expansion of vascular structures in the esophagus and stomach. As a result of the expansion process, the veins become quite fragile, which is often accompanied by their rupture. In this case, serious bleeding is observed.

        Note! Portal hypertension develops mainly in liver cirrhosis. This occurs due to the formation of scars on the organ when consuming large amounts of alcohol, as well as in the presence of hepatitis.

        Esophageal varices develop due to the following reasons:

      • blood clot formation;
      • liver diseases that impair blood flow;
      • compression of the portal vein by tumors;
      • heart and vascular failure.
      • Esophagus from the inside with dilated veins

        Cirrhosis, hepatitis and other liver diseases require timely treatment. Otherwise, there is a huge likelihood of developing serious consequences associated with VVV. One should not exclude such causes of the development of phlebectasia as excessive alcohol consumption. In this case, scarring of the liver tissue is observed, which negatively affects blood flow, slowing it down.

        Treatment of a disease such as esophageal varicose veins should begin with eliminating the cause of its development. It is mandatory to take measures to improve the patient’s condition and prevent hemorrhages.

        Classification of the disease

        Depending on the form of occurrence of ARV, they are distinguished:

      • Congenital - very rare in infants. At the same time, quite serious additional diseases are observed. The causes of the development of the congenital form of the disease are associated with hereditary factors and characteristics of the course of pregnancy.
      • Acquired - occurs mainly in men over 50 years of age. The reasons for the development of this form of the disease are, by analogy, related to bad habits.
      • The classification of phlebectasia also considers the degree of development of the disease. Depending on this factor, treatment of the disease is prescribed. Dilated veins in the esophagus have four degrees of progression.

        The initial stage of such a pathology as varicose veins of the esophagus is accompanied by a stretching of the veins by 3 mm. In this case, individual nodes can be clearly seen. Pathology is determined exclusively endoscopically. To confirm the diagnosis, contact radiography is prescribed. This diagnostic method allows you to identify symptoms of the disease such as slowing blood flow. In this case, an abrupt expansion of the esophageal opening is observed. Bleeding does not occur in this case.

        In the second degree, tortuosity and unevenness of the vascular structures occurs. Dilated veins of the esophagus do not exceed 3 mm in size, and the lumen of the veins does not have characteristic narrowings. The mucous membrane also does not have any deviations from the norm. Symptoms of the disease can be determined using contrast X-ray diagnostics. In this case, an unclear venous contour and round-shaped defects become visible. You can often see areas that are stretched or, on the contrary, distorted. Bleeding in this case can only occur when the body is exposed to certain factors.

        3rd degree varicose veins

        With the third degree of development of phlebectasia, single angioectasia occurs. In this case, there is a narrowing of the venous lumen and the acquisition of a serpentine shape. In the middle of the esophagus and above, bulging of blood vessels is noted. Clear protrusion of nodes, as well as a decrease in the tone of the walls. There are symptoms such as changes in the surface of the mucous membrane. There is a characteristic bend in the folds of the esophagus, which resembles the structure of the stomach. This degree of progression of phlebectasia is characterized by the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux. In this case, there is a high risk of bleeding.

        In the third stage of varicose veins, the x-ray shows the presence of polyp-like disorders, lesions of the esophagus and defects reminiscent of moth-eaten matter. In this case, symptoms such as a serpentine and uneven esophageal lumen are present. Endoscopy reveals characteristic blue veins. In certain places there are erosions and redness. In this case, there are huge risks of bleeding, so treatment must be carried out urgently.

        With the fourth degree of development of phlebectasia, a pronounced thinning of the mucous membrane is observed. In this case, polypoid or cluster-shaped nodes are present, which lead to blocking or reduction of the esophagus. Symptoms such as angioectasia and erosion are no exception. In this case, there is a high probability of developing extensive varicose veins, in which a whole network of damaged and thinned vessels extends from a large node. Bleeding in this case occurs very often and poses a serious danger to the patient’s life.

        Symptoms of phlebectasia

        At the initial stages of development of varicose veins there are no symptoms. That is why progression of the disease is often observed, which leads to the development of bleeding. It is quite difficult to independently recognize the development of phlebectasia. Often the symptoms of the disease are mistaken for other diseases. Associated with the digestive system.

        At the beginning of the development of varicose veins, the following symptoms most often occur:

      • shortness of breath during activity and at rest;
      • heartburn that occurs regardless of food intake;
      • pain in the sternum;
      • violation of swallowing functions.
      • Among the distinctive signs of the disease, one should highlight the presence of a vascular pattern on the skin in the chest area. This symptomatology is called “jellyfish head”. It should be noted that this symptom of the disease occurs already at serious stages of disease progression.

        Note! Most often, bleeding is the primary symptom of phlebectasia, which is accompanied by rapid heartbeat. In this case, the appearance of blood in sputum, vomit and feces is noted.

        Varicose veins of the esophagus require a qualified approach. Treatment should be prescribed by a specialist after diagnosis. First of all, treatment of varicose veins in the esophagus is aimed at studying the liver and identifying the causes of the development of pathology. The condition of the blood vessels and heart is required to be examined. In case of cirrhosis, drug prevention of the development of phlebectasia is carried out by restoring liver function.

        Note! Treatment of varicose veins in the esophagus is aimed at preventing bleeding. Strengthening the liver, heart and blood vessels is mandatory.

        The patient is recommended to change the regimen, taking into account the existing danger of the disease. Physical activity should not be neglected. It is imperative to adhere to dietary nutrition and daily routine.

        Drug treatment

        Drug therapy involves the prescription of drugs to influence the underlying disease and eliminate associated symptoms. For these purposes, vitamins, astringents and antacids are prescribed.

        Varicose veins of the esophagus, accompanied by bleeding, require the following treatment approach:

      • transfusion of colloid solutions and blood;
      • the use of drugs that constrict blood vessels and stop bleeding;
      • carrying out electrocoagulation in the area of damaged vessels;
      • compression of bleeding vessels in the esophagus area using a special probe.
      • Surgery

        Surgical treatment of hemorrhages gives a more pronounced result than conservative therapy. This is due to the obtained statistical data, which indicate the fact that the use of surgical treatment reduces mortality from phlebectasis by 3 times.

        Preventing varicose veins is easier than treating it

        Varicose veins are a complex disease characterized by dilated veins and impaired blood flow.

        The vessels increase in size, change shape, lose their natural elasticity and become clearly visible visually.

        The danger of varicose veins is that the speed of blood flow slows down, blood clots form, and if the skin is not nourished, trophic ulcers appear.

        To avoid the serious consequences of this disease, preventive measures are taken. The sooner they are started, the better.

        Why is it important to prevent varicose veins?

        The main task of preventing the development of pathology in the venous circulation is to maintain the patient’s health, eliminate the causes of the disease and maintain blood vessels in normal condition .

        Many people suffering from this disease have a hereditary predisposition to it. Others acquire it due to the characteristics of their work activity.

        Therefore, the prevention of varicose veins is built in two directions:

      • events for people who have a predisposition due to natural or professional characteristics, but have not yet developed varicose veins;
      • actions for patients experiencing this disease in order to avoid serious complications.
      • Most phlebologists are confident that varicose veins are easier to prevent than to treat.

        To solve this problem, there are many proven and completely new modern techniques.

        Varicose veins most often affect the lower extremities.

        Therefore, people who may have enlarged veins or who are already visible through the skin and become visible to the eye should take care of the condition of their legs.

        Prevention of varicose veins at home should be comprehensive. In this regard, different means should be used.

        Normalization of your own weight

        Body weight is an important component of a person’s overall well-being. The higher it is, the greater the load on the legs. The vessels that supply the limbs with blood become unable to function normally.

        As a result, varicose veins occur. Therefore, it is important to maintain your weight at a normal level. When gaining extra pounds, you need to change your diet, use healthy diets and adhere to a certain diet.

        To maintain the elasticity of the veins, it is recommended to include in the daily diet a certain set of products that strengthen the walls of blood vessels and promote normal blood circulation.

        These include vegetables and fruits with a high fiber content: white cabbage, bran, wholemeal bread. Apples, sunflower seeds, nuts, berries are useful, especially cranberries, sea buckthorn, and blueberries.

        In any case, with impending varicose veins, confectionery and various types of baked goods, coffee and strong tea, sugar, any alcohol, modern energy and carbonated drinks are contraindicated.

        Physical exercise

        Intense physical activity, carrying heavy objects and being forced to stand for long periods of time contribute to the development of varicose veins in the legs.

        To prevent the disease, it is necessary to perform special exercises that keep the veins in good shape. The most optimal activities in the pool are regular swimming or water aerobics.

        Water can relieve stress on different parts of the body and create pleasant sensations. In the gym, exercises are chosen that do not put much strain on the leg muscles and abdominal muscles.

        It is important to avoid sudden movements and spontaneous changes in their direction, and long running. It is useful to take slow walks in the fresh air, go skiing, but not ride down high slides, and dance.

        Clothing, shoes and compression garments

        To prevent varicose veins, it is important to wear the right clothes and shoes.

        As for the latter, phlebologists strongly recommend choosing a wide, stable heel of no more than four centimeters. High heels create a certain load on the legs, and the venous vessels do not work properly.

        A flat sole leads to foot deformation, flat feet and dysfunction of the entire limb, leading to slower blood circulation.

        In order to prevent varicose veins, special compression garments have been developed. Elastic knee socks, stockings and tights are made from modern high-tech materials that provide a supporting effect (prevent stretching of blood vessels) and allow the legs to feel comfortable.

        Real compression garments are expensive and are manufactured by strictly certified medical companies. Therefore, it is important to choose the right products that will bring benefits, but will not cause even more harm.

        Medical and cosmetic products

        To prevent vein diseases and avoid heaviness in the legs, various ointments and creams are used, enriched with components that help strengthen the walls of blood vessels and create normal blood flow.

        There are many such drugs, and they are used as prescribed by a doctor. In complex therapy, external agents are used with the use of oral medications. This enhances the positive effect. The most common are venotonic drugs.

        To avoid problems with veins, it is important to keep your feet clean by regularly washing your limbs with warm water and soap, especially the areas between the toes and feet.

        It is recommended to carry out contrast procedures by moving your feet into hot and cold water. Be sure to change your socks and keep your shoes clean.

        To reduce the risk of varicose veins, it is worth using proven folk remedies based on the use of formulations prepared from medicinal plants.

        Nettle is considered especially effective here. An infusion is prepared from this herb, which is used for foot baths. It can also be taken orally, 1/3 glass three times a day, an hour before meals.

        Apple cider vinegar has a beneficial effect on the composition of the blood and the speed of its circulation through the vessels. They wash (wipe) their feet with it in the morning and evening, accompanying the procedure by taking the product orally: 2 tsp. per glass of water.

        Prevention of occupational predisposition to the disease

        Prevention of varicose veins during sedentary work or standing work is of particular importance.

        In this situation, you need to monitor your own health and regulate your actions. During the working day, it is important to change the position of your legs and follow these rules:

      • If your profession requires you to stand for a long time, you should organize a wide, low stand on which you periodically rise and fall, changing the load on different muscles.
      • When performing sedentary activities, it is recommended to have a similar stand to periodically place your feet on it to avoid a static position below.
      • It is important to be able to straighten your knees so that blood can flow freely through all vessels to the foot.
      • You should definitely take breaks from work and do simple exercises: for those who are standing, sit with their legs extended and raised, for those who are sitting, walk around. If possible, it is recommended to lie down for at least 15 minutes.

        Prevention of disease in pregnant women

        When carrying a child, a woman experiences a large load on her lower limbs, especially in the second half, when the fetus is developing intensively and the total weight of the expectant mother increases, swelling and enlargement of the veins occurs. Timely measures can reduce the risk of developing varicoasis during this period.

      • choose your shoes especially carefully and wear loose and comfortable low-heeled shoes;
      • use compression hosiery if swelling occurs, wear special tights, maternity pants that support the stomach;
      • avoid excessive fluid intake;
      • evenly distribute daily loads on the limbs, change the position of the legs during the day;
      • visit the swimming pool and perform homemade contrast douches.
      • Women who are predisposed to developing varicose veins during pregnancy should definitely consult a phlebologist and follow his recommendations.

        Treatment of varicose veins - phlebology at the Hermes center in Komi, Syktyvkar

        Phlebeurysm

        Varicose veins (varicose veins) is a pathology of veins, manifested in their expansion, tortuousness, and destruction of the valve apparatus. The initial manifestations are the formation of spider veins, swelling of the saphenous veins, the formation of nodes, painful veins, and heaviness in the legs. As the disease progresses, signs of chronic venous circulation insufficiency appear: swelling of the feet and legs, cramps in the calf muscles, trophic ulcers, thrombophlebitis, ruptures of varicose veins.

        Laser treatment of varicose veins

        Benefits of laser treatment:

      • Cosmetic effect is achieved immediately, and not after a period of time after wounds have healed or “bruises” have been reabsorbed; no stitches, large hematomas or swelling;
      • “Office” - the possibility of performing endovasal laser coagulation on an outpatient basis;
      • Painless;
      • After surgery, there is no need to use strong analgesics for a long time;
      • There is no risk of developing complications of general anesthesia (suitable for those for whom general anesthesia is not recommended due to concomitant diseases);
      • The likelihood of recurrence is as low as with “major” surgical operations;
      • Cases of complications (thrombophlebitis, sensitivity disorders, wound suppuration, thrombosis, hematomas) are recorded in isolated cases;
      • The essence of sclerotherapy is this : a sclerosing compound is injected into the dilated veins with a syringe, then compression stockings are put on the leg. After a few days, the procedure is repeated if necessary.

        The main advantages of sclerotherapy:

      • absence of trauma, shock to the patient’s body
      • absence of postoperative wounds, scars and associated complications
      • This is primarily a cosmetic effect, the possibility of closing reticular veins, telangiectasia.
      • the opportunity to continue to engage in one’s professional activities (treatment does not require any sick leave)
      • I would like to express my deep gratitude to the surgeon-phlebologist Ilya Evgenievich Leonov. The treatment and recovery process took place without pain or complications, the leg is in perfect order. Low bow to you, dear doctor!

        We went to the Hermes clinic for a consultation with doctor Leonov I.E. Consulted and examined. We performed sclerotherapy and laser surgery. Operation was successfully completed. However, the presence of dilated veins, even if they are not yet a concern, already poses a great danger to life, since the most dangerous complication can occur at any moment - thrombophlebitis . Blood clots that form in varicose veins can break off and travel to vital organs, often leading to death.

        There are primary and secondary varicose veins

      • Primary is associated with weakness or impairment of the venous wall . The development of the disease is facilitated by pregnancy, obesity, prolonged standing, and congenital weakness of connective tissue; wearing stockings with tight elastic bands.
      • Secondary varicose veins occur as a result of impaired venous outflow when the valves do not cope with their work, as well as due to tumors and injuries.
      • In varicose veins, damaged valves allow blood to enter the superficial venous system, causing increased pressure there, causing them to dilate. Blood flow slows down, oxygen supply to tissues decreases, and ulcers occur.

      • heredity; hereditary vascular weakness
      • long-term static loads
      • sedentary lifestyle
      • taking hormonal medications and hormonal disorders
      • pregnancy
      • leg injuries
      • heavy lifting, overload (for example, suddenly starting active training after several years of a sedentary lifestyle)
      • smoking
      • The risk group includes people whose profession forces them to stand on their feet for hours during the working day, drive, work on a computer, etc.

        In a sitting position, the veins located in the upper thigh and pelvis are somewhat compressed. This means that movement along them slows down. Therefore, “sedentary” professions also ultimately lead to the occurrence and development of the disease. Both young and old people are at equal risk.

        Also at risk are:

      • those who wear high heels;
      • athletes whose activities involve a lot of stress on their legs (tennis, weightlifting, bodybuilding);
      • hairdressers, salespeople, teachers, waiters and representatives of other professions who spend a lot of time standing;
      • and those who, although they work while sitting, really like to cross their legs at this time;
      • coffee and alcohol lovers, because these products dehydrate the body and thereby thicken the blood, complicating its path back to the heart.

      How to recognize the disease:

      If at the end of the working day you feel heaviness in your legs, and your favorite shoes have become tight due to mild swelling, then these are already the first signs. Occasional cramps and pain in the calves should also alert you.

      Visible changes in the veins usually begin small - with the appearance of spider veins.

      Subsequently, irreversible processes occur in large veins, they come to the surface, their walls become thinner in some places and they look knotty.

      Main signs of the disease:

    • leg pain;
    • a feeling of warmth and burning in the legs along the veins;
    • heaviness in the legs;
    • swelling of the legs in the evening;
    • night cramps in the legs;
    • dilated veins;
    • darkening and thickening of the skin of the legs;
    • trophic ulcers.
    • Prevention and treatment:

      If you have initial signs of varicose veins, then following fairly simple rules will slow down, and in some cases, avoid its further development.

    • Do not get carried away with hot baths , saunas, or prolonged exposure to the sun. All of the above reduces venous tone and leads to stagnation of blood in the lower extremities.
    • Move more . Regular exercise will help strengthen veins and improve blood circulation. Aerobics, running, and swimming in moderate mode help improve the health of your veins.
    • Lose weight . People who are overweight are especially susceptible to this disease. The blood vessels of an obese person contain more blood than those of a person of normal weight, so these vessels have too much stress. We can give only one piece of advice to overweight people in such a situation - to lose weight and keep your weight at a constant level.
    • Do not wear tight clothes , stockings and socks with tight elastic bands, as this leads to compression of the veins. But support tights and stockings help prevent varicose veins to some extent.
    • Alternate loads evenly , never staying in the same position for too long.
    • Don't sit cross-legged ! Throwing one knee over the other creates an obstacle to the blood flow.
    • Move . Varicose veins can be caused by prolonged standing, since in this case normal blood flow is disrupted. Try to shift your weight if you have to stand for a long time. Sitting for a long time will also not do you any good: try to get up from time to time and move around the room or take a walk every half hour.
    • Cellulose . To avoid constipation, include fiber-rich foods in your diet. Frequent constipation also increases the likelihood of varicose veins. Try to limit your salt intake to avoid swelling.
    • Exercise in the morning . Before going to bed and in the morning after waking up, twirl your toes and feet for 3-5 minutes - this improves blood circulation in the lower extremities.
    • Do not wear heels or tight shoes.
    • Rinse your feet with cold water after work.
    • Walk more on the dew and the edge of ponds in the summer.
    • If you are not sick with varicose veins, but only predisposed to it, daily self-massage, with soft stroking and kneading your legs from bottom to top, will be useful for prevention.

      If a diagnosis of “varicose veins” has already been made, foot massage procedures are contraindicated!

      Lack of exercise and chronic constipation are factors that contribute to the development of varicose veins.

      If you feel heaviness in your legs in the evening after a working day, your legs should be kept elevated during sleep and rest. When you relax, read a book, watch TV, raise your legs higher. You can place a high pillow or cushion.

      If your work involves sitting at a desk for a long time or you stand for a long time, then you should change the position of your legs more often, walk in place, and rotate your feet.

      After showering or bathing, rinse your feet with cold water.

      There are sports that are useful for this disease - primarily swimming, but also walking, light jogging, cycling, and skiing.

      Health-improving and therapeutic gymnastics:

      Performing special exercises daily will bring great benefits:

      1. Raising on your toes. Starting position – stand straight, feet parallel to each other and pressed against each other. On the count of one, rise on your toes; on the count of two, lower yourself to the starting position. Repeat 20-30 times.
      2. Lifting (toes apart). Starting position: stand straight, heels together, toes apart. On the count of one, rise on your toes; on the count of two, lower yourself to the starting position. Repeat 20-30 times.
      3. Raise (heels apart). Starting position: stand straight, toes together, heels apart. It turns out to be such a clubfooted position. On the count of one, rise on your toes; on the count of two, lower yourself to the starting position. Repeat 20-30 times.
      4. Another useful exercise is the “bicycle” from a supine position. It is very important to straighten your legs to the end when performing this exercise.
      5. You can perform these simple exercises even while doing everyday things (when you cook porridge or stand at the photocopier in the office).

        The diet for varicose veins is a maximum of vegetables and fruits, a minimum of salty and smoked foods. A diet low in animal protein, fat and refined carbohydrates. Spicy foods thicken the blood, which leads to the formation of blood clots. Vodka, cognac and whiskey act similarly. It is recommended to eat as little meat as possible. It is not for nothing that the Papuans and the peoples of the Far East, who prefer vegetarian food, never suffer from this disease.

        Include in your diet fish, fresh fruits and vegetables, foods rich in fiber, high in vitamin C, rutin, bioflavonoids, and mucopolysaccharides.

        All plant products are beneficial. The ABC principle applies here, where A is carrots, B is lettuce, and C is greens and citrus fruits. To this list should be added two more very important vitamins that strengthen the walls of blood vessels. This is vitamin E, which is found in olive oil, and vitamin P, which is found in walnuts, green tea and rose hips.

        Vitamins C and E are components of collagen - the connective tissue of veins and venous valves. Sprouted grains of wheat and rye, as well as peas, beans and green onions, surprisingly enrich the veins with essential nutrients and make them more elastic.

        Scientists have proven that garlic has a beneficial effect on the blood. This manifests itself in preventing the formation of blood clots in the vessels - blood clots that impede or block the flow of blood.

        To sum up the almost thirty scientific experiments that tested the effect of garlic on blood viscosity, it can be briefly defined as follows: if you take garlic for a certain period of time, you can expect an increase in the rate of resorption of intravascular blood clots by 50%. In addition to promoting the resorption of blood clots, garlic also prevents platelets from enlarging and compacting, and therefore forming blood clots.

        Eat 2-3 cloves of garlic with food every day. This helps lower blood pressure, cleanse blood vessels from atherosclerotic deposits, strengthen their walls and prevent varicose veins, etc.

        Some basic nutrition rules

        • Meat should be lean, boiled or stewed.
        • Consume yogurt with reduced fat and sugar content.
        • When choosing cheese, also give preference to low-fat varieties, limit yourself to 30-60 g no more than 3 times a week.
        • Give preference to fruits, vegetables, uncrushed grains, and legumes. These foods are rich in potassium and fiber.
        • Increasing potassium in the daily diet is one of the ways to achieve water-salt balance. Fiber acts as a “janitor”, removing toxins and preventing constipation. It cleanses the body by mixing with metabolic products and is removed using absorbed fluid. Products of plant origin contain a large amount of dietary fiber, but only if they have not been subjected to industrial processing.
        • Eat bread made from coarse wheat flour.
        • Reduce your consumption of animal fats, sugar, and salt.
        • When preparing food, use utensils that allow you to cook without cooking fats.
        • If necessary, add vegetable oil instead of butter.
        • Never cook with previously used fats.
        • Use mayonnaise sparingly or limit its consumption to a minimum if you cannot give it up completely.
        • Avoid eating sweets after meals and between meals.
        • Drink 6-8 glasses of liquid a day. With less consumption, stagnation occurs in the tissues.
        • Drink water in small sips throughout the day. Remember that fresh fruits and vegetables contain a large amount of water and by consuming them in food, the body’s need for liquid is also satisfied to some extent.
        • Before your main meal (20-30 minutes before), drink a glass of cold water.
        • Do not drink while eating (if it is impossible to do without drinking, drink juices very slowly and in small sips).
        • Be sure to drink water before and after physical activity.
          • have dinner no later than 7-8 pm, a few hours before bedtime;
          • eat slowly, chewing your food well;
          • do not consume alcohol, nicotine and caffeine;
          • Always eat in moderation.
          • Laser coagulation as the best treatment option for varicose veins

            Treatment of varicose veins with laser is an almost ideal method of intervention. Using a special light guide, the inside of the vein is treated with a laser, which leads to its gluing.

            Varicose veins are one of the most common diseases of the vascular system of modern humans. Swelling of the legs, constant heaviness in the legs even without significant physical activity, increasing cosmetic defects and psychological discomfort - this is not a complete list of symptoms of varicose veins of the lower extremities. Laser treatment of varicose veins is a relatively new surgical treatment option for this disease.

            Attempts at radical treatment of varicose veins have been ongoing for many years. Most classical surgical interventions involve fairly large incisions in the skin of the legs, a painful rehabilitation period, and a certain likelihood of infectious complications. A one-time operation does not always eliminate the problem of dilated veins, since there is a risk of reappearance of vessels altered by the disease.

            Possibilities of surgical treatment

            The classic phlebectomy operation (removal of the entire vein) is very traumatic and painful, with a high risk of infectious complications. Microphlebectomy (removal of part of a vein) and stripping can also be complicated and leave scarring on the skin of the legs. Surgery using sclerosant (sclerotherapy), which causes blockage and emptying of the vessel, can provoke a systemic allergic reaction in some patients.

            Thus, laser coagulation for varicose veins of the extremities is the best treatment method.

            Laser treatment of varicose veins is the most modern method of treating this disease, which was introduced into widespread clinical practice just over 10 years ago. In this short period of time, this surgical option has brilliantly demonstrated its effectiveness and safety.

            Indications for surgery

            The operation of endovasal (intravascular) laser coagulation effectively eliminates varicose veins of the superficial veins of almost any location and extent. This surgical intervention is most popular and widespread in cases of damage to the vessels of the legs; it is often used as a means of treating pelvic varicose veins.

            Before laser removal of varicose veins, a consultation with a phlebologist surgeon and a thorough laboratory and instrumental examination, in particular duplex angioscanning, are required.

            Contraindications for surgery

            Laser removal of varicose veins has practically replaced classical methods of surgical intervention. However, there are a number of limitations for this surgical treatment option.

            If there are changes in the deep veins of the extremities, laser treatment may not be as effective. This operation is also of little effectiveness at the stage of advanced forms of varicose veins and the development of specific complications (varicose dermatitis, trophic ulcers).

            The operation requires special preparation or becomes technically difficult if the patient has increased bleeding, obesity, severe chronic diseases of the cardiovascular, endocrine (especially diabetes mellitus), and respiratory systems. Laser treatment of varicose veins can have certain difficulties if the patient has a tendency to systemic allergic reactions.

            The operation is performed on an outpatient basis. Since the area of the surgical field is very small, and the main changes occur inside the veins, local and general anesthesia is not required. If necessary, the patient can take a sedative to relieve psychological discomfort.

          • Through a small incision in the skin of the legs, a light guide is inserted into the damaged venous vessel. It is this technical device that is a source of laser radiation of a constant and pulsed nature with a certain wavelength.
          • Laser treatment for varicose veins involves radiation displacing blood from the vein.
          • The walls of the vessel collapse and eventually stick together completely, the blood flow in the altered vessels of the legs completely stops.
          • The duration of this surgical intervention on the legs does not exceed one and a half hours.
          • After laser coagulation of varicose veins in the legs, blood circulation occurs in the bed of the deep veins, which are located inside the muscle tissue and are not visible during external examination. The operation of laser coagulation of the venous vessels of the legs is so low-traumatic that it does not leave hematomas, scar marks or other cosmetic defects.

            Rehabilitation period

            Rehabilitation after endovasal laser coagulation of varicose veins in the legs does not require special attention. Laser treatment of varicose veins does not require hospitalization, a long period of forced bed rest, courses of preventive antibiotic therapy, or tiring and painful walking on stiff, tightly bandaged legs. All this is absent with laser coagulation.

            Once the operation is completed, the patient can stand up independently. It is recommended to slowly move from a horizontal to a vertical position (that is, first sit for a while and then stand up) to avoid vascular collapse after lying for an hour. The patient does not feel any painful sensations in the legs; there may be only minor discomfort in the form of tingling in the place where the light guide was inserted. Thus, there is no need to use painkillers in the postoperative period.

            An important detail of the rehabilitation period after laser correction is long-term (up to 2 months) wearing of special compression garments. It is this detail that will completely stop the blood flow inside the superficial veins and eliminate swelling due to varicose veins. The degree of compression of medical underwear should be discussed with your doctor. Pre-purchased tights must be put on directly in the operating room.

            For the first two days you can’t take it off even at night. After this time period, compression garments must be worn continuously during the day, but can be removed at night. This important detail involves planning this intervention for the cold season so that the patient does not feel discomfort in warm weather.

            The patient's physical activity is also not particularly adjusted. The operation is completed, and the patient does not require accompaniment or outside assistance. It is necessary to avoid heavy physical activity, heavy lifting, and visiting baths and saunas in the first week after surgery. In the future, the patient leads a normal lifestyle: he can drive a car (even with a manual transmission), play sports, and walk long distances.

            It should be remembered that a patient with vascular diseases of the legs needs to observe a number of simple preventive points, namely:

          • control your weight and prevent it from becoming overweight;
          • avoid prolonged sitting or standing in one position;
          • eradicate the habit of sitting cross-legged;
          • quit smoking;
          • wear comfortable shoes with “Viennese” (small up to 5 centimeters) heels;
          • introduce walking and moderate physical activity into your life.
          • In this case, the performed leg surgery will demonstrate its excellent results for many years.
