Gout most often occurs in men after 40 years of age, although women are also at risk, especially after menopause. This disease is accompanied by severe pain and redness in the joint. Gout has been known since ancient times and was previously considered a disease of the rich, as it occurs due to frequent abuse of alcohol, fatty foods and meat foods. Today, 3 out of 1000 people experience this disease. In the generally accepted concept, gout is a joint disease associated with salt deposition.
Gout occurs against the background of metabolic disorders, which leads to the deposition of uric acid in various tissues of the body. The tissues that suffer first are those that do not receive sufficient blood supply: cartilage, joints, tendons . The kidneys cannot cope with the constant supply of purine bases, which leads to an increase in their concentration. With gout , all joints become inflamed, including the joints of the toes and hands. If treatment is not timely and the rules of prevention are not followed, the disease becomes chronic. The patient should know everything about the disease: why gout is dangerous, treatment with folk remedies, treatment with medications.
There are several causes of gout:
The main complication of gout is kidney damage and the appearance of so-called gouty nodes. Gout can provoke the occurrence of kidney stones, urolithiasis, and severe atherosclerosis. The disease is especially dangerous in combination with diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension.
Kidney stones are a serious cause of kidney failure, which can eventually lead to death. In advanced forms, gout leads to degenerative changes in the joints.
The development of gout occurs in several stages. At the first stage, the accumulation of uric acid is painless and asymptomatic. The patient, as a rule, is unaware of problems in the body. If gout is not detected at an early stage, then it takes on an acute form, which is accompanied by severe pain, sometimes with fever. During this period, it is very important to consult a doctor, start treatment and stick to a diet. If acute attacks do not go away within six months or a year, then gout becomes chronic.
The manifestation of gout begins with an attack of gouty arthritis. First the joints become inflamed. Most often, the disease affects the ankle, knee or big toe joint. Typically, the first symptoms occur at night or early in the morning. The joint swells greatly, hurts, becomes hot, the skin begins to shine and turns red. The pain may subside during the day, but intensify again in the evening. An acute attack of gout lasts from 2-3 days to a week. A secondary attack of gout can affect other joints and lead to their partial destruction.
A clear sign of gout is the appearance of large lumps or growths on the joints. If the growths burst, whitish crystals appear in their place. In this case, the patient feels severe pain and cannot fully move.
In the chronic form of the disease, gouty nodes (tophi) begin to be deposited in various tissues of the body. In most cases, nodules form around the fingers (especially on the toes), elbows, and knees. Less commonly, tophi appear on the ears, around the spinal cord, and in the area of the vocal cords.
At the first signs of gout, you should consult a rheumatologist. The traditional method of treatment is to use medications and follow a diet. A course of medication and dietary restrictions should normalize uric acid levels and reduce the load on the kidneys. Only a qualified doctor can prescribe an effective drug, taking into account all individual characteristics.
As a rule, the doctor prescribes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs : diclofenac, methindole, butadione, naproxen, indomethacin . To quickly reduce the concentration of uric acid, the following drugs are prescribed: orotic acid, milurite, allopurinol, thiopurinol, hepatocatazal . For acute pain, your doctor may prescribe colchicine. All medications should be taken with plenty of water and strictly monitor the drinking regime during treatment.
The main part of treatment is diet. Without changing your diet, there can be no talk of recovery, because it is food habits that most often become the cause of illness.
The patient is prescribed fractional meals. You need to eat often, but in small portions, controlling your hunger and appetite. You need to learn to get up from the table slightly hungry, but not take long breaks between meals.
For the prevention and treatment of gout, exercise is recommended. This could be classic morning exercises, swimming, cycling, brisk walking. Patients with gout must definitely monitor their diet, and not only during illness. Priority should be given to dishes steamed or boiled in water. Fatty, fried, pickled, smoked foods are completely excluded. During the first time of treatment, you should completely avoid salt. Hot sauces with a lot of spices, meat and fish broths, and jellied meat are also contraindicated. Allowed fats are vegetable, ghee and butter (10 g per day).
A diet for gout involves eating large amounts of fresh vegetables, fruits, berries, and compotes.
Coffee, tea, cocoa should be replaced with natural fruit drink, jelly, compote, decoctions of rose hips, yarrow, aralia, mint and wheat bran. It is useful to eat berries, citrus fruits, apples, watermelons. It is advisable to eat vegetables raw, but several times a week they can be replaced with boiled or stewed ones.
Some vegetables contain too many purines and should be eliminated. These include: cauliflower, sorrel, tomatoes, spinach, asparagus, legumes.
Cucumbers, fresh and pickled white cabbage, zucchini, and potatoes are absolutely harmless for people with gout.
The diet should include dairy products, especially natural cottage cheese and yoghurts, wholemeal bread, cereals, and boiled eggs. During treatment, proteins are limited to 200-300 g of boiled lean meat per week.
Patients with gout are recommended to have fasting days once a week . You can choose one of the options: vegetable fasting day (1.5 kg of vegetables without salt and oil in any cooking), fruit (1.5 kg of fruit, except bananas and grapes), kefir (1.5 liters of kefir), kefir- cottage cheese (500 g kefir and 400 g cottage cheese). A fasting day allows you to reduce the concentration of uric acid and improve the metabolic process. For overweight people, fasting days will help get rid of several kilograms.
It is very important to drink enough clean water without carbon during treatment and after it. It is useful to drink alkaline mineral water, for example Borjomi. During fasting days, you can only drink water, herbal or weak green tea.
If you have gout, fasting is completely prohibited, since when you refuse food, the level of uric acid increases greatly. You should also completely avoid alcoholic beverages, especially beer. If the patient is obese, it is necessary to switch to a low-calorie diet.
Many adherents of alternative medicine prefer to treat gout with folk remedies. By now, a lot of recipes have accumulated that help relieve pain and get rid of the ill-fated disease. Folk remedies generally offer treatment with natural herbs and natural remedies.

The finished broth is filtered through cheesecloth or a sieve and drunk one glass 3 times a day before meals. The course is 10-14 days.
Fish compresses are considered an effective remedy for the treatment of pain in the feet, heel spurs, and gout. To do this, you need to take 1-2 kg of fish, separate the meat from the backbone, chop it finely, divide it into equal parts, package it in separate bags and put it in the freezer. Before going to bed, defrost 1 bag, put it on the sore leg, and put a warm sock on top. If you carry out this procedure every night for 10 days, the pain will subside. The main thing is not to forget to wash your feet thoroughly in the morning with aromatic soap.
Buy regular lard and apply it to sore spots. Take a small piece of lard, apply it to the swollen joint and secure the area with a bandage. Do this compress at night and by the morning you will feel better.

Pork fat copes well with pain, relieves swelling, and improves blood circulation. During treatment with lard, it is recommended to eat wheat porridge with butter. It helps reduce the accumulation of salts in the joints.
A common method of treating gout is an ointment based on homemade unsalted butter. To prepare it, you need to take equal parts of oil and alcohol. Melt the butter in a frying pan until foam appears and slowly pour in the alcohol. Then the mixture is stirred and set on fire until completely evaporated. The resulting product is cooled, transferred to a jar and left in the refrigerator. Use the ointment during an exacerbation, rubbing it into the sore spot in front of a heat source (battery, heater, fireplace).
Activated carbon saves not only during poisoning, but is also used to treat gout. The recipe is very simple. Add a tablespoon of flax seed and the same amount of clean water to it. The resulting pulp is applied to the affected area, wrapped in polyethylene and secured with a bandage. Activated carbon reduces the concentration of salts and the pain gradually decreases. For those who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract during treatment, it will not hurt to use charcoal internally at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of weight.
Pour 500 g of iodized salt into a saucepan, add a little water and boil until the water evaporates. Next, add 200 g of chicken fat or medical Vaseline, mix everything well and leave to brew. At the same time, it is recommended to drink a decoction of linden.
Apples are a natural healer. A few apples a day is known to help prevent serious illnesses. During the treatment of gout, try to eat fresh and baked apples, and also make decoctions and infusions from them.
The decoction is prepared very quickly. Boil water, add chopped pitted apples into it, after 10 minutes turn off the heat and let the drink brew. It is advisable to drink apple decoction instead of tea all day. Thinly sliced apples can simply be steamed with boiling water along with herbs.
A solution of iodine with aspirin helps to reduce salt deposits. To obtain a healing remedy, grind 5 aspirin tablets into powder and add 10 ml of iodine to them. Rub the solution on problem areas overnight and put on warm socks or gloves.
To enhance the effect, you can take baths with iodine. To 3 liters of warm water add 9 drops of iodine and 3 teaspoons of baking soda. If you do such baths every day, the salt deposits will be significantly reduced.
Garlic tincture is used in the treatment of many diseases, including gout. To prepare it you will need: 500 g of garlic, 1 liter of alcohol, fruit juice or milk. The garlic is turned into a pulp, poured with alcohol and placed in a sunny place for 10 days. The finished product is filtered and taken 20-40 drops along with milk or fruit juice in the morning on an empty stomach.
A garlic-vinegar compress also helps relieve joint pain. Take 3 heads of garlic, pour 500 g of 9% vinegar over them and leave the resulting mixture for 15 days.
Since ancient times, gout has been treated with herbal infusions, mixtures, and decoctions. In different ratios and combinations, herbs help get rid of pain and symptoms of the disease. They act more slowly than medications, but do not have negative consequences for the body.
Baths and lotions made from chamomile are excellent for helping with salt deposits. To prepare them, add 100 g of chamomile and 200 g of table or sea salt to 10 liters of water.

Take 2 tablespoons of lingonberries per glass of boiling water and leave for 30 minutes. This decoction should be taken 3 times a day, 100 g.
A well-known folk remedy for gout is tincture of gout. It is prepared from 3 teaspoons to 2 cups of boiling water. The product should infuse for 2-3 hours, after which it should be strained and drunk 4 times a day before meals.
Another folk remedy is tincture of lilac flowers. Collect a full half-liter jar of lilac, fill it with 200 g of alcohol and place it in a dark place for a week. Remove and shake the tincture periodically. The finished drug should be taken 20-30 drops 3 times a day before meals.
For those who have already been diagnosed with gout, treatment with folk remedies will prevent the disease from returning in the future or quickly relieve its symptoms without the use of medications. In case of acute pain, you should still consult a doctor, as the consequences of gout can be very dire. Watch your diet and try to move more throughout the day.

Butter is a very popular product. But in the 20th century, it began to be accused of every conceivable sin: it undermines health, causes obesity and heart disease. Let's figure out whether the harm of butter is exaggerated, and what benefits this source of animal fats can have.
Photo: Depositphotos.com Author: chica-chica
Scientists noticed that more and more people were suffering from heart disease and excess weight, and decided to find out what the reason was. Experts studied the diet of the average person. The findings were disappointing: the increase in incidence is caused by cholesterol, which is quite high in butter. As a result, the product fell out of favor with everyone who struggles with excess weight and/or atherosclerotic plaques on the walls of their blood vessels.
Here you need to understand that obesity cannot be caused by eating butter alone. As a rule, overweight people eat other, more unhealthy foods.
Butter contains a large amount of fat, but these are “good” fatty acids that are essential for the human body. Unlike, for example, trans fats, which margarine is “stuffed with.”
The natural product contains vitamins E, C, A, D, and several representatives of group B. All of them are necessary for the health of skin and hair, muscles, bones, nails and internal organs.
Thus, vitamin D is needed for the formation of nerve tissue and bones, vitamin A is needed to maintain healthy vision, it also has a positive effect on the condition of the skin and normalizes the functioning of the mucous membranes.
Consumption of butter has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract, including helping to get rid of constipation and reduce pain during exacerbations of gastritis. Regulates hormonal balance, increases performance, strengthens the nervous system, and fights fatigue.
Butter is good for:
Therefore, a sandwich or porridge with butter for breakfast will only bring benefits. They will help get rid of morning nervousness, give strength, relieve irritation of the mucous membranes and increase performance.
Regular use of this natural product reduces the likelihood of contracting fungal infections, because it contains lauric acid. This compound speeds up getting rid of such an unpleasant disease as candidiasis.
Vitamin D in butter helps fight depression, preserves vision and memory, improves concentration and other cognitive functions. While arachidonic acid (belongs to the omega-6 class) stimulates brain function. That is why consuming this dairy product is especially beneficial in winter, when a person needs a lot of calories, and his brain activity suffers due to lack of sun.
In turn, saturated fats, which were the reason butter was disliked in the 20th century, provide a powerful antitumor effect. In particular, they prevent the appearance of metastases in cancer. In addition, these fats improve immunity.
Finally, the benefit of butter is that it helps keep your teeth healthy.
Butter is a product of processing full-fat cow's milk (cream), a quality product has a high fat content of at least 72.5%. This product cannot be called known since ancient times or an innovation: preparing butter (churning from full-fat milk) at home began around the 9th century in Rus', and industrial production began in the 19th century.
One of the less fatty varieties of butter consists of 72.5 percent cream and its name is “Peasant”. It is believed that the less animal fat a product contains, the better and more it can be eaten. Using the example of one of the popular “dietary” varieties, we will consider all the components of this product.
Macro and microelements:
Dairy products have been used by mankind since time immemorial. These are cheeses, fermented milk products (kefir, fermented baked milk) and sour cream and butter - delicious and occupy the main place on the dinner table. All of them benefit health and contain a lot of micro-macroelements, vitamins and acids useful for the skin, digestion, and the functioning of internal organs. As for the benefits of butter, this is a controversial issue. This amount of fat, calories, and cholesterol that it contains requires a competent, balanced attitude, because if you consume it a little too much, you can acquire completely unpleasant diseases for the rest of your life. But first, about the benefits...
But it should be noted that the product is beneficial only in certain quantities. Thinking that more is better is a mistake. Animal oil is a fatty product and contains “bad” cholesterol, which causes atherosclerotic vascular disease and poor nutritional supply to internal organs.
In the last century, the results of international studies were published on the dangers of cholesterol contained in fatty animal products. So butter is a product made from heavy dairy cream and also contains cholesterol. Therefore, it should be consumed within reasonable limits, for example, two sandwiches with butter per day are enough. Cholesterol poses a particular danger to blood vessels. In small quantities it is a building material that makes tissue elastic (including the walls of blood vessels), in large quantities it accumulates as excess (in the form of plaques) on the inner walls of arteries and veins and completely blocks the lumen in the capillaries. By triggering the atherosclerotic process in the body, ultimately causing unpleasant diseases - strokes, heart attacks, blood clots, venous insufficiency, etc.
David Asprey's new diet is called Bulletproof, it is based on a cup of black coffee, in which an 80-gram piece of unsalted butter is dissolved. The statement is controversial that you can lose weight with fatty animal products, but the “inventor” of this diet insists on its effectiveness. Coffee in combination with butter makes the waist slimmer, he believes, and cites as an example the favorite drink of Tibetan monks - tea with butter of animal origin (buffalo milk). In Tibet, they believe that a drink with butter gives energy, strength, health and slimness.
The best butter, without impurities, flavor enhancers, preservatives, etc., can be obtained at home. The main ingredient for this is top quality cream or sour cream. The procedure takes from several minutes to several hours, depending on the technical equipment. If you make butter by hand (the old-fashioned way in a special wooden masher), the result will be a delicate product; if you do it in a mixer, the butter will be coarser. Another advantage of the home procedure is that you can mix it with any additives: garlic, onions, herbs, pickles or chocolate (cocoa).
Be sure to protect from sunlight. In the refrigerator - good, in foil even better, but for several days (up to 15 days). For long-term storage (for example, a large piece of animal butter) use a freezer - several weeks or even months.
Gout is one of the few dangerous heterogeneous diseases. It is considered quite common among the vast majority of older people. Previously, only men suffered from this disease; today, gout often affects women as well.
The clinical picture mainly consists of improper removal of the appearance of peculiar salt growths on the bones. Externally, such growths look like acute arthritis. Gout can be easily treated even at home. Patients do not have to go to the hospital to get rid of this problem.
In some cases, discomfort or even a burning sensation may occur in the bladder. This is due to the fact that salt dissolves in the body and irritates the mucous membranes. There is no need to be afraid of this.
Recipe No. 1. A healing decoction of chamomile will perfectly soothe gout-affected limbs. The flowers should be filled with water mixed with salt (ratio 100 grams / 10 liters / 20 grams). After the solution has infused, make a bath.
Recipe No. 2. Ordinary fir cones will help perfectly cleanse your joints. To do this, pour 1.5 cups of hot boiled water into the unopened cone with seeds and leave overnight. The decoction should be taken 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals. The procedure should be repeated until complete recovery.
Recipe No. 3. Cleansing joints with bay leaves is also recommended. 5 grams of bay leaves should be poured into 1.5 glasses of water and boiled for at least 5 minutes. The container should not be covered with a lid, because the leaves contain essential oils that adversely affect the kidneys during gout. The resulting broth is removed from the stove, wrapped in a towel and left for at least 3 hours. After infusion, the composition should be drunk within 24 hours.
Recipe No. 4. Boiled rice also has a beneficial effect on cleansing joints. 2 tbsp. The rice must be rinsed with water several times, then poured into a half-liter jar, filled with water and left overnight. In the morning, rinse again and cook. After boiling, remove from heat, rinse again and bring to a boil again. This procedure is repeated 4 times. When everything is done, the rice is washed one last time and eaten without salt or oil. After taking this “medicine” you should not drink or eat for four hours. Repeat the procedure in the evening. This should be done for 45 days. Thanks to prolonged washing, starch disappears from the grains. And with repeated boiling, cells are formed. Black radish juice is one of the most powerful juices for removing salts from joints (including crushing stones in the kidneys and other organs) and strengthening blood vessels.
Only freshly squeezed black radish juice is used. Reception begins with 1 teaspoon, an hour after meals (can be diluted with any other juice to your taste). Each time we increase the dosage, first bringing it to 1 tablespoon of juice, and then to 0.5 cup consumed at a time.
