It is generally accepted that heaviness in the legs, especially at the end of the day, is a sign of simple fatigue. But why does heaviness in the legs happen in the morning and what are the reasons for this phenomenon? Most likely, the problem lies in your body. Heaviness in the legs that appears in the morning may indicate the presence of a serious disease, for example, varicose veins of the lower extremities, lymphostasis, heart failure or various joint diseases.
Every third person, waking up in the morning, wonders why heaviness and pain remain after sleep. Citing the fact that they have been lying in one position for a long time or pregnancy, excess weight, weather conditions, people are immersed in their everyday problems. In this way, the body signals a person about internal problems that need to be addressed urgently. To do this, you should visit a doctor and undergo an examination to confirm or refute the presence of pathological changes in the internal system.
The occurrence of this symptom, such as heaviness in the lower extremities, accompanied by swelling and fatigue, is not always a sign of illness. If this is an isolated incident that occurs once every few months, then you are weather dependent. If you feel heaviness only in the hot season or after several hours of immobility (for example, when you sleep), then you do not need to worry too much.
Typically, heaviness in the limbs worries women more. It is so arranged that women have a sexual predisposition to this:
It is possible that the causes of this symptom may be wearing uncomfortable and tight shoes, high-heeled shoes, as well as excess weight and poor nutrition (especially for those who are constantly on diets).
Heaviness in the legs in the morning can also pose a greater threat to human health if these manifestations are regular and accompanied by additional symptoms: swelling, numbness, cramps, and constant discomfort.
The list of diseases that cause heaviness in the morning is quite long. All of them pose a great danger to humans and require special attention and urgent consultation with a specialist. Elimination of severity should be primarily aimed at eradicating the underlying disease:
Thrombosis is characterized by the formation of blood clots inside blood vessels, which impede the movement of blood through the circulatory system. The disease occurs in the last stages of varicose veins. The causes of heaviness in the limbs are associated with the development of the disease. Pain impulses may be felt in the knee area, the skin gradually turns blue, and body temperature rises, especially with severe swelling. A life-threatening artery blockage can develop within two hours. Atrophy of the soft tissues of the skin, as well as internal cells, can cause blockage of blood flow.
Varicose veins are associated with pathological changes in the vascular walls and disruption of the valve apparatus. Varicose veins are not just a cosmetic problem; they can develop into a serious pathology. Valves located in the vessels regulate the direction of blood movement and prevent its reverse flow. With varicose veins, the functioning of the valves is impaired, therefore, blood flows back to the lower extremities. The venous pool is not dimensionless, so after a certain time the vascular walls expand, that is, varicose veins develop. If the disease is not treated on time, complications will gradually appear: ulcers and bumps, pain and heaviness in the legs in the morning. Chronic venous insufficiency will occur (poor blood flow from the veins due to impaired hemodynamics).
Almost any cardiac pathology can cause heaviness in the lower extremities. This applies to heart disease, ischemia, cardiomyopathy, heart attack, and myocardial cardiosclerosis. All these diseases are characterized by shortness of breath, swelling, and general weakness. A similar mechanism can be observed in kidney diseases. For example, with chronic pyelonephritis, the outflow of urine is disrupted, fluid accumulates in the vessels, and the amount of minerals and toxins is sharply reduced.
Lymphostasis occurs as a result of congenital pathology of the lymphatic system or acquired pathologies: trauma, burns, consequences of surgical interventions. The disease is characterized by swelling of the lower extremities, increased fatigue in the legs, pain, and skin atrophy.
Damage to the venous bed of the lower extremities can lead to changes in the integrity of the skin: the development of ulcers and gangrene. Therefore, when the first signs of the disease appear, urgent consultation with a specialist is required.
With occlusion, acute obstruction of blood vessels occurs, which develops gradually. This pathology can occur against the background of vascular diseases, problems with the heart valves, impaired metabolism or injury. The tissues of the part of the limb where vascular insufficiency develops gradually die, since they are not filled with blood. If a person is not provided with timely medical assistance, he may ultimately lose a limb, and in extreme situations, his life.
With diseases of the leg joints, the patient experiences unpleasant sensations: in addition to heaviness in the legs in the morning, he experiences pain and constant discomfort. However, determining the cause of these symptoms is not so easy, since the musculoskeletal system of the lower extremities has a complex structure. For example, on one foot alone there are 30 bones and almost as many joints. But the most common diseases of the leg joints are: arthritis, arthrosis, flat feet. In order to provide timely assistance to a patient, it is very important to determine whether he has a particular disease. Only a qualified specialist can help in this matter. Given the similar symptoms of joint diseases, the doctor may have difficulty determining the diagnosis, so it is very important to tell the specialist about all the manifestations of the disease.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis for a patient, the doctor takes into account all the nuances: the patient’s personal feelings (according to his words), research indicators:
Additionally, the patient may be prescribed: angioscanning (a method for assessing arterial function), studies of the endocrine and reproductive systems, including an ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs.
The problem of heavy legs requires immediate medical attention. At best, this will be a sign of ordinary fatigue or uncomfortable position of the limbs, at worst, the presence of a serious pathology requiring intensive therapy.
The fight against headache, as the most common form of pain syndrome, remains one of the pressing and extremely difficult problems of medicine to this day.
Back pain, or dorsalgia, can be a symptom of various diseases and one of the most common complaints [2, 5]. The main causes of back pain Back pain is most often caused by spinal osteochondrosis - a degenerative lesion of cartilage.
Restless legs syndrome is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by motor restlessness in the lower extremities.
Fatigue (mental and physical) is a common complaint with which patients consult a doctor no less often than with pain. Fatigue and feeling tired are common and do not require medical attention. Normalization of the activity regime and full-fledged.
Varicose veins should be treated outside of pregnancy, but sometimes varicose veins should be treated in pregnant women. This article will tell you about the rules for treating varicose veins in pregnant women, tell you which doctor to contact and what medications to use.
Pregnancy and the birth of a child are, of course, the most important events in a woman’s life. However, the joy of having a baby and communicating with him is often overshadowed by changes in a woman’s body associated with pregnancy and childbirth.
Sleep apnea syndrome (SSA) is a pathological condition in which the patient experiences repeated short-term pauses in breathing lasting more than 10 seconds with a frequency of more than 5 times per hour, due to complete or partial obstruction.
Meningococcal infection is not a common disease: not every local doctor encounters at least one such patient in his entire practice.

Woman, 45 years old, normal BMI.
In September, 09.12.-09.13.2016, I underwent 24-hour monitoring of the electrical activity of the heart (Holter ECG), 24-hour electrocardiosignal monitor DSM3 (3-channel, 3 leads) - this is the best Holter ECG that is available in our regional center. We installed a monitor at home, during the 24-hour monitoring there were no attacks of pronounced palpitations (again, I didn’t guess right.). She performed moderate physical activity, which allowed for existing coordination disorders (history of vertebrobasilar insufficiency against the background of cervicothoracic osteochondrosis, focal changes in the substance of the brain of both hemispheres). The main type of exercise was an exercise bike (medium pace), I felt: discomfort in the heart area, a feeling of lack of air, a slight headache, unsteadiness when walking, a moderately accelerated heartbeat; pain in the legs, between the shoulder blades and cervical spine. After any physical activity, my blood pressure rises sharply to 160 mmHg. Art. systolic, and sometimes up to 185 mm Hg. Art.; diastolic - up to 100 mm Hg. Art. (though after 7-10 minutes, blood pressure begins to slowly decrease, although it remains slightly elevated). According to Holter, the maximum heart rate is 125 beats/min. It was in the evening without physical activity - I sat in a chair and watched TV. Minimum heart rate below 60 beats/min. (but not less than 53 beats/min.) began to appear occasionally after long-term use of beta blockers (now I rarely take beta blockers - I try to replace them with Cratal and medicinal herbs - hawthorn, cudweed, lemon balm, mint). During daily monitoring, short-term frequent dizziness and imbalance (disorder) and congestion in the ears occurred. In addition to neurological problems, the history includes stage 2 hypertension, sinus tachycardia; diffuse goiter (previously, the T4 hormone sometimes increased).
Tracking duration: 21:12:09
The average heart rate for 21 hours 12 minutes was 80/min.
Sleep: 02:00 13.09 (6 hours 50 minutes). Heart rate during sleep is 69/min, while awake 85/min.
Circadian index 1.24.
Tachycardia (>110) 00:28:07 (2.2%) Maximum heart rate 125/xb. registered 09/12/16 21:51:51
Dizziness is a person’s illusory perception of his own and external movements. This complaint occurs in 3-5% of patients seeking medical help from a general practitioner and in 10% of patients when visiting a neurologist.
Enterobiasis is a disease familiar to everyone without exception. Its cause is pinworms. If we hear that “a child has worms,” then in most cases we are talking about them: a worm and a disease. Learn everything about proper diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
3 years ago (2012 winter) I got myself two kittens (first one, then the other), both of them from the market were not vaccinated. They were sick with something (loose stools, didn’t eat, etc.) and we sent them away. There was also a puppy at the beginning of 2012, he died due to some illness.
After a month of kittens, the following symptoms appeared:
Lost weight from 56 to 49 kg
Complete loss of appetite
Severe abdominal pain in the morning
And rashes on the body like lichen. (a month has passed)
The dull pain in the gall bladder area (lasted for about 3 months) did not stop.
A full examination was carried out, but the cause was not found.
In the spring of 2013 I recovered, the symptoms became less pronounced.
Only in April 2015, at the direction of an infectious disease doctor, a form of Toxoplasmosis, toxocariasis, and ascariasis was discovered.
General weakness, increased fatigue, dizziness (mild), weakness in the legs, drowsiness, eyes are burning and reddish,
There are headaches
Increased body temperature (often 36.8 - less often 37)
Anxiety (previously had panic attacks)
When I’m very nervous, my body temperature rises and my legs feel wobbly.
The abdomen generally does not hurt, the stool is normal (diarrhea occurs, rarely)
After and while taking medications, pain began in the gall bladder area (pulling pain, infrequent, short)
There are problems with breathing (not enough air) the longest was about 2 weeks
There is a lump in the throat (2 weeks)
The lowest blood pressure is 90/55 (when taking nemazol medications), and that happens sometimes.
The appetite is normal, 4 meals a day are complete. You always really want something sweet, especially in the evening and at night.
The skin is a little dry, there is a 2|2 cm rash on the leg that does not go away.
Height 165, weight 52 (at the moment)
Put roundworms. KP = 1.92
Toxocariasis will put CP = 5.23
Toxoplasmosis 2.9 units/ml (up to 1.6 negative. 1.6-3.0 doubtful. More than 3.0 positive.)
Neutrophils are slightly reduced
Lymphocytes are slightly increased
Monocytes are slightly elevated
Toxocariasis KP = 7.6 (1:800)
Roundworm KP = 2.3 (1:200)
Toxoplasmosis (not treated) IgM - not detected. IgG - 85.5 IU/ml detected.
Now they have been re-prescribed to drink Vermox for toxocariasis and ascariasis 2 times a day for 2 Weeks (+ enterosorbent vitamins and antihistamine)
And how many times can it take to cure toxocariasis and ascariasis?
Do these parasites cause weakness and fatigue?
Is a diet necessary during treatment (giving up sweets)?
And when should I take tests after treatment?
And 1:200 roundworms. (I took piperazine for 5 days, Nemazole for 2 weeks and Vermox for 3 weeks) do you think they died or are they still there? SoE and leukocytes are slightly elevated. On ultrasound, suspensions in the gallbladder.
Is it possible to get pregnant with such indicators?
Lately I’ve been having a constant headache, my vision has started to deteriorate and my eyes are burning. About 5 years ago I was diagnosed and was told that the cervical artery was congenitally twisted + osteochondrosis. Once every six months I underwent treatment (injections with Actovegin, Lucetam, Glycesed), at first it seemed to help, but now it doesn’t help anymore... I read that the cause might even be in the kidneys, but I haven’t examined the kidneys yet. But I noticed that the headache goes away if I drink a little strong alcohol, pills, even strong painkillers no longer help... Tell me what to do. I filled out the form below.
15 years old, then an exacerbation began at 35 years old, the diagnosis was made: impaired blood flow due to osteochondrosis and VSD.
Once again I will list the symptoms in my body: Fatigue, heaviness in the arms and legs, fainting states every 3-4 hours, this condition goes away when I eat, dizziness sometimes, confusion in the head, good appetite, inattention, palpitations, shortness of breath, lack of air, sometimes nausea in the morning, headaches 3 times a month, irritability, tired of loud sounds, information, unpleasant sensations throughout the body. Doctors diagnose VSD, but the cause of VSD has not yet been identified (My letter was published on December 13, 2015)
- in the periventricular white matter of both parietal lobes, symmetrical groups of foci of altered MR signal, hyperintense on T2-WI and FLAIR-IP with a diameter of up to 3.0 mm, were identified, which are located in the form of chains one after another. In the left parietal lobe, the described chain of lesions continues into the frontal lobe along the body of the lateral ventricle.
— on post-contrast series of images, no foci of pathological enhancement of the MR signal were noted in the substance of the brain and in its membranes.
-the ventricles of the brain are moderately asymmetrical due to the expansion of the occipital horn of the left lateral ventricle.
-median structures are not displaced.
-chiasmal-sellar region without features.
-subarachnoid spaces are not expanded or deformed.
- cranial-cervical relationships are not disturbed.
With MR ANGIOGRAPHY OF THE BRAIN:
- reliable aneurysmal dilatations of cerebral vessels are not determined.
-segment P1 of the right posterior cerebral artery is hypoplastic, its remaining segments additionally receive blood from the right internal carotid artery through the dilated right posterior communicating artery.
- the topography of the arteries is not disturbed.
-absence of signal from blood flow through the left posterior communicating artery.
CONCLUSION: Multifocal lesion of the white matter of the parietal lobes and the left frontal lobe, vascular in nature. Considering the location of the foci and their symmetry, the consequences of perinatal hypoxia seem more likely.
Partial replacement hydrocephalus.
Functional posterior trifurcation of the right internal carotid artery.
-In the extracranial section, the carotid and vertebral arteries are passable, not narrowed, and no pathology of their course was detected. The wall has not been changed.
-The blood flow in the extracranial section of the carotid arteries is mainline, without significant asymmetry; no hemodynamically significant blood flow disturbances were detected.
-Blood flow in both vertebral arteries is antegrade, without significant asymmetry at both extra- and intracranial levels; no hemodynamically significant blood flow disturbances were detected.
-Blood flow in the intracranial arteries is antegrade, within normal limits, with acceptable asymmetry. The relationship between the velocity gradients is preserved.
CONCLUSION: No pathology was identified.
On a series of intracranial MR angiograms performed in 2D TOF mode with subsequent processing in MPR and MIP modes, images of the intracranial arteries of the brain were obtained: internal carotid, anterior, middle and posterior cerebral, as well as intracranial segments of the vertebral and basilar arteries, where the following changes:
-a variant of the development of the circle of Willis is a right-sided posterior trifurcation, as evidenced by the origin of the right posterior cerebral artery from the internal carotid artery.
-The course and dimensions of other arteries are normal. The contours are smooth, clear, without local narrowings or aneurysmal dilatations. The blood flow is symmetrical; no areas with pathological blood flow were identified.
CONCLUSION: The variant of development of the circle of Willis is right-sided posterior trifurcation.
CONCLUSION: On radiographs of C1-C7 only with functional tests, no evidence of instability of the motion segments was obtained.
In the pictures of a regular MRI of the cervical spine we have osteochondrosis of the cervical spine.
Thank you in advance for your response.
In August, 2013, sensations appeared in the anus area, reminiscent of sensations like after a kick in the anus area, it seems to be permanent, it does not intensify when walking and pressing on the tailbone (before this there was a fall on the butt and maybe this is the reason, or maybe not), in the morning, after sleep, it hardly bothers you, and then after about 30 minutes this symptom begins to appear. At first, it even hurt constantly for about 9 months, radiating to the perineum area. At the moment, the sensations are very unpleasant, the muscles around the anus don’t seem to want to obey, that is, when you try to pull the rectum into yourself (this always happens during the act of defecation when the feces themselves have already come out), but they are not particularly active in doing this, I even I don't know how to describe it.
I came for a consultation with a urologist on September 20, 2013, where I was immediately given a diagnosis. chronic prostatitis without examination where I didn’t even lower my pants and they prescribed treatment: “Vitaprost” 2 times a day for 10 days and “Prostatovid” drink one capsule 2 times a day for 3 months. This doctor also said that it is pointless to treat prostatitis since it is incurable at all. This treatment ultimately does not give any result, even temporary, I am going to another urologist!
I am turning to another urologist (December 2013) where I am already undergoing some examinations: analysis of pancreatic secretions, pancreatic secretions for flora-staphylococcus epidermidis, TRUS of the pancreas, urine and blood tests, STI testing (urethral smear PCR method), Dopplerography vessels of the small pelvis and penis, ultrasound of the scrotum where they found varicocele 3 on the left, although during a visual examination even before the examination the doctor did not say anything) and after these examinations the inflammatory process could not be detected, tests of pancreatic secretions were taken 3 times. I passed the first one when I had plastic surgery in 2007 and 2 times in December 2013. After the varicocele was discovered, I underwent surgery, the operation went well, there is an extract with some examinations.
The problem with the cooling of the inverter head has not gone away! After the above, I visited a neurologist and did an MRI of the lumbar spine. The doctor said that there is a slight osteochondrosis and this is not the cause of my problem. He said that almost everyone has it because of an uneven seat at a table, desk, etc. He prescribed me to take B vitamins and that’s it. After what was prescribed, just in case, in order to at least guess the reason, I also went to a consultation with a chiropractor for a back (spine) massage for 10 days, but this did not produce results. The doctor himself said that he sees no problems with his back!
They constantly looked at my prostate and wanted to diagnose chronic prostatitis, but the tests did not allow me to do this. Undoubtedly, the symptoms are similar to prostatitis, but where is the inflammation!? The urologist told me that my prostate is like that of a schoolchild and there is definitely no inflammatory process there.
I go again to the urologist (March, 2014) where they don’t give me a diagnosis, but simply offer me treatment for vascular erectile dysfunction, which I don’t have, but strangely enough, I agree. Prescribed: “aprinale”? t. 2 times a week (Friday and Tuesday after 16.00), “Medicon” 1t. in the morning on an empty stomach, drink 1 month, MLT and VMP, do procedures every other day and “escusan” 10-12 drops 3 times a day. As a result, not even a hint of improvement! After VMP it is a little better, but it is temporary, about 5 minutes. The doctor seemed strange in general, my personal opinion was that the doctor did not know the anatomy of the penis at all.
After all the above-described journeys, one urologist suggested that I sew up an artery (August, 2014) in the frenulum, and I stupidly agreed, not knowing that this was a deception and that it would only get worse! After he made a dissection along the frenulum area, I completely lost the sensitivity of the head of the penis. It was a deception, since such operations after 7 years of “downtime” are impossible to perform, and even without a microscope, in 30 minutes. Regarding other deceptions, I think there is no need to write, I had enough of them, but fortunately it did not affect my health, it was just a siphoning of money.
In general, I am currently worried about: the constant coldness of the head of the penis, it is cold to the touch, something like a metal object, it is difficult to warm it up, the color of the head has not changed, in cold weather it hurts the most, it can be felt by touch with your hand, and sensitivity has also been lost, which leads to grueling sexual intercourse! In the area of the head, sensations such as subtle pain or burning and in the urethra, too, but only in the area of the head, appeared along with the coldness of the head. Everywhere, in all analyses, leukocytes are single or 2-3.
As a result, I can say that most likely there is a violation of the arterial blood flow of the head due to a dissection of the artery in the frenulum of the penis, which you cannot visually see and the Doppler is powerless! The fact is that the symptom itself appeared immediately after the dissection. Regarding innervation, the problem here is clear - it is denervation of the head, and due to the fact that the frenulum area was cut twice, the innervation has practically disappeared, in any case, I do not feel pleasant sensations during intercourse, but before that everything was fine. Regarding the problem of the anorectal zone, I can’t say anything specifically here, I know that there was a fall on the butt and that’s all, but the symptom is very strange, it is not clear where it is localized, but somewhere in the area of the muscles of the anus, that is, those that. I have all the examinations on hand, I am attaching a scanned copy to the letter.
A little about myself: I’m over 27 years old, I don’t smoke and haven’t smoked at all, I don’t abuse alcohol (I only drink occasionally), there were no injuries to my back or pelvis, I don’t have diabetes, I have no problems with my stomach, defecation, and I also did not observe any problems with stool or anything suspicious, a mentally healthy person, height 175 cm, weight 63 kg. There are no problems with erection as such, there is just discomfort from the problem described above, reminiscent of a cold nut in a warm shell! The lifestyle is more active.
And I would also like to draw your attention to one point, in general, when an erection begins to swell, the head of the penis remains cold despite its increased size, and only then gets warmer. The temperature is in such a state that the erect penis itself, touching the stomach, clearly feels the coldness of the head and at the same time it is enlarged as usual, does not darken, etc. But with a full erection, the cold is still present and it does not immediately become warmer.
I also wanted to add that I do not have a diagnosis, with the exception of chronic prostatitis, which is not confirmed by anything. Everyone says differently, for example, someone says that it is a collateral, and someone that it is a strong decrease in the blood supply to the head, and someone says that it is the prostate. I was told by one urologist-surgeon from the Shalimov Institute that there are no vessels there, so then where did the mysterious fountain of blood appear in the direction of the head, it is not clear!? As far as I know, during circumcision and plastic surgery, this artery is always intersected and it is there , this is most likely a branch of the dorsal artery, in general this is a superficial blood supply. But how could the prostate cause the cause at the time of dissection of the frenulum, I wonder!? There is no desire to contact the Institute of Urology or UISA, and there is no point because they said that they can’t help in any way. I went to a lot of places (the Mechnikov, Shalimov clinic, many private centers, but no one even tried to figure out what was wrong and as a result, I have already been living with this for 7 years. I live in Dnepropetrovsk.
I kept thinking that maybe these problems with blood flow and innervation could be solved with the help of biotechnology, since there are no other solutions, and the problem of the anorectal zone should be dealt with separately. I haven’t been to a proctologist, I’m just tired of going so pointlessly, just pumping out money and nothing more. When I asked how to check the blood flow regarding my problem, I was told that there is no such examination.
I turned to urologists many times, but there was no result. Even now, sitting at the monitor, I take the head of my penis in my hand and feel that it is cold and not sensitive! And I also forgot to add that there is no bulbocavernous reflex from the moment of dissection, no one asked or looked at it at all, some don’t even know what it is.
Morning pain in the knee joints occurs for many reasons. This could be a minor bruise or a long stay in an awkward position, uncomfortable shoes - in such cases it is enough to do exercises more often. If knee pain occurs regularly after sleep, you should undergo an examination at the clinic.
Knees hurt in the morning for several reasons:
The sources of pain affecting the knees are varied. In any case, you need to see a doctor to eliminate the developing pathology.
Sometimes people wake up with knee pain, walk for about 30 minutes and notice an improvement in their health. In some cases, this situation is constantly repeated. This symptom indicates arthrosis, which is the destruction of a joint without an inflammatory process.
Decreased elasticity and thinning of the cartilage in the knee area lead to serious problems. Destructions often affect the menisci, ligaments, and periarticular capsules, and the bone tissue becomes thicker and larger.
Osteoarthritis develops gradually. Initially, pain occurs only after exertion and people ignore this ailment. Pain in the morning appears after the cartilage tissue has become thin and the bone tissue around the inflamed cartilage of the knees has begun to grow.
At a time when the disease manifests itself as morning pain, it is still possible to save the knee joint and restore its previous functionality. In the future, only surgical intervention can cure the disease.
Children are also susceptible to pathologies and unpleasant symptoms associated with knee joints:
Long-term complaints of pain in the legs require a visit to a doctor for examination and treatment.
When your knees hurt in the morning, some actions will help relieve the condition before going to the doctor:
It is important to follow the specialist’s recommendations to eliminate pain.
Treatment is required to relieve pain and inflammation. Therapeutic course scheme:
Cases where your legs hurt below the knees in the morning should not be ignored. Pay attention to the nature of the pain, duration, frequency. This information is important when taking a medical history.
The morning is not always good. Some people find that after sleeping at night, even for a long time, they have a headache in the morning. This condition is accompanied by other unpleasant symptoms: dizziness, nausea with possible vomiting, etc. If this happens regularly, then you need to urgently consult a therapist, as these symptoms can be caused by serious diseases.
Very often, a change in the normal rhythm of life or daily routine can lead to headaches in the morning. In this case, the person already wakes up with a heavy head. To get rid of this condition, it is often enough to change your rhythm of life. So, let's list these reasons.
Doctors do not recommend drinking more than 3 cups of this drink. And at night, coffee should be completely excluded. Giving up strong coffee can save you from headaches in the morning. Children who have been treated to caffeine-containing drinks too early by adults can also get up with a heavy head. In this case, it is better to choose a more suitable drink for your baby, for example, herbal tea.
Another reason why headaches occur after sleep is an uncomfortable position of a person at night while sleeping. This is caused by an uncomfortable bed or poor-quality mattress and pillow. If your pillow is too large, then during sleep the blood vessels and nerve endings may be pinched. As a result, little oxygen reaches the brain, which leads to severe morning headaches.
This video will tell all readers of the website Headache.Com how to sleep properly:
Choose a high-quality mattress that should be smooth and moderately hard. The pillow should not provoke a strong bend in the neck. And the best position for sleeping is considered to be on your back. Properly selected bedding for children is especially important. Because, in addition to waking up with a headache, it is also dangerous for their spine.
Headache after sleep can occur not only due to lack of sleep, but also due to sleeping too long. Many of us allow ourselves to relax on our days off and sleep longer. At the same time, the level of glucose in the blood drops sharply, resulting in a morning headache. The same thing happens after a nap.
For this reason, doctors recommend getting up after waking up in the morning, doing light exercises and eating a light breakfast. And if you feel like you didn't get enough sleep at night, you can take a little more nap later.
If you allow yourself to eat too much in the evening, it is very likely that you will wake up with a morning headache. This is due to the fact that at night the human body needs rest, and should not spend all its energy digesting large amounts of heavy, fatty or spicy food.
In addition to headaches after sleep, a person experiences other unpleasant symptoms, for example, nausea, indigestion or skin problems.
Those who drank alcohol in the evening can also get up with a heavy head. Alcohol poisoning manifests itself as a headache in the morning.
If we talk about smoking, then as soon as a person begins to get used to cigarettes, he may have a headache in the morning. But over time, when the body gets used to the effects of nicotine, such symptoms gradually disappear. If a child has a headache in the morning, this may be a signal that he is addicted to an addiction. Morning sickness can also give a novice smoker away.
Involuntary grinding of teeth at night, or bruxism as it is also called, also provokes severe discomfort, especially in the temples and back of the head. The reason for this is instability of the nervous system. Therefore, the doctor often recommends taking mild sedatives at night.
People who have suffered stress or psychological stress can also wake up with a heavy head. If a person is constantly tense and finds it difficult to relax, then even in sleep his body will not be able to fully rest. Regular stress can cause insomnia.
In children, such sensations may occur as a result of changes in lifestyle or daily routine. Children often complain of morning sickness when moving from one children's group to another or when there is an excessively heavy workload at school.
Often the result of stress is all kinds of psychosomatic ailments. Therefore, if after sleep, both at night and during the day, you experience unpleasant sensations, try to find time for proper rest.
There are times when a headache begins to bother you even during sleep, so a person wakes up in a broken state. This indicates various psychological and other equally serious illnesses. Then you cannot do without visiting a doctor.
Not always a change in the rhythm of life, bad habits or other external reasons can trigger morning headaches. The same symptoms also occur in the presence of certain diseases.
One of the symptoms of this condition is excruciating headaches, including in the morning. In addition, the patient experiences weakness, nausea and dizziness. In such cases, it is necessary to take medication immediately.
Elena Razumovna Lebedeva, a neurologist of the highest category, Doctor of Medical Sciences, representative of Russia on the Council of Experts on Headaches at the European Academy of Neurology, talks about how migraine appears, how to distinguish it from other types of headaches and whether it can be treated. ):
In cases of bruise or concussion, the head will always hurt. At the same time, unpleasant sensations after waking up can only intensify. The person also experiences incoordination and nausea.
The symptom of this disease is morning headache. The rest of the time the person feels satisfactory. It is because of this that a tumor is often detected only when the problem has already begun to threaten life.
In case of poisoning of the body, a person often feels a severe headache when getting out of bed in the morning. There will also be vomiting, after which the condition may improve.
Colds and viral illnesses are always accompanied by a painful headache, which can intensify after a day's sleep. In addition, the patient experiences drowsiness, dizziness and muscle weakness.
Morning headaches, including in the back of the head, can indicate such serious diseases as:
Some women during pregnancy may get up in the morning with a heavy head. In this case, this condition in them is associated with a restructuring of the body’s hormonal levels. If this happens too often, they should see a doctor.
The problem of headaches in the morning cannot be ignored under any circumstances. It can be solved with the help of tablets only at first. But soon, the body will get used to the medications and stop reacting to them. And you, in turn, will be left with unpleasant sensations.
Therefore, it is very important to consult a doctor who will prescribe additional tests or studies. He will make an accurate diagnosis and begin your treatment. At the same time, the patient himself can take steps to prevent the occurrence of unpleasant sensations in the morning. To do this you need:
These simple preventative measures will help get rid of headaches in the morning. If this does not bring results, consult a doctor to prevent serious health problems.

Pain in the legs is a completely natural phenomenon after long walking, running or hilling beds. Such painful sensations are a physiological reaction of the body to overexertion and go away on their own after several hours of rest. But there are situations when pain and heaviness in the legs appear gradually and do not go away for a long time. Such pain in the leg is a kind of signal about problems in the body. And the sooner the cause is determined, the more effective the treatment will be and the better the prognosis.
As already mentioned, pain in the lower extremities can be physiological in nature and be the body’s reaction to overexertion. Most often, nagging pain in the muscles of the lower extremities develops after heavy physical work, long unaccustomed walking, running a cross-country race in a child, etc. The cause of such sensations is the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles. This is a toxic product for muscle fibers that does not have time to be excreted. Probably everyone has felt such pain at least once in their life. As lactic acid is removed, pain decreases and after 12-24 hours completely disappears. This pain is not intense and intensifies with movements in tired muscle groups.
Physiological pain can also occur from prolonged stay of the legs in one position, for example, an airplane flight, sedentary work or a long stay in a standing position. At the same time, blood stagnates in the veins of the legs, microcirculation is disrupted, and various toxic substances accumulate. Due to stretching of the venous wall, pain receptors are activated and pain occurs in the legs. This pain goes away after rest. To speed up this process, the limbs need to be given an elevated position.
Important to remember! If you have prerequisites for constant stagnation of blood in the veins of the lower extremities, then this is a serious risk factor for the development of varicose veins. In this case, it is important to engage in primary prevention.
If you have not found a single reason in your life that could cause physiological pain, and unpleasant sensations in your legs bother you regularly, then you should seek advice from a specialist, especially when the pain is severe and bothers you at night.
This is one of the most likely reasons why your legs hurt. It is not difficult to establish such a diagnosis, since there is a clear connection with the impact of a traumatic factor and pain. There can be many types of lower extremity injuries:
Traumatic injuries are the most common causes of leg pain
In this case, a sharp pain occurs at the time of injury, which intensifies with any movement. Among the external signs, it is worth noting tissue swelling, bruises, hematomas. In case of a fracture or dislocation, non-physiological position of the leg and pathological mobility can be observed. The supporting and motor function of the limb is also partially or completely affected.
Severe pain in the legs develops with the following diseases of the arteries of the lower extremities:
Among all obliterating diseases of the arteries of the lower extremities, atherosclerosis is in first place and occurs in 90% of cases. During the disease process, cholesterol accumulates in arterial walls and plaques form, which narrow the lumen of blood vessels and cause hypoxia of soft tissues.
The main symptom of atherosclerosis is intermittent claudication. The pain appears after exercise (walking or running over certain distances) and goes away after rest. This causes the patient to stop from time to time while walking.
Instead of pain, you may experience cramps at night, heaviness in the legs, and weakness. The skin becomes pale and cold to the touch, the pulse in the arteries of the foot disappears. At the last stage, trophic ulcers and gangrene may develop, which threatens limb amputation.
With atherosclerosis, blood stops flowing to the soft tissues of the legs, which leads to ischemia and pain
Obliterating endarteritis occurs mainly in young and middle-aged men. The cause of the disease is still unknown. The symptoms of the pathology are the same as in the atherosclerotic process, but unlike the latter, small arteries are affected and the disease has a wave-like course with alternating periods of exacerbation and remission.
Buerger's disease develops in men who smoke. The pathology has a chronic course. As a result, every second patient undergoes above-the-knee amputation. The causes of thromboangiitis obliterans have not been established to date, but an autoimmune etiology is suspected.
With thrombosis or embolism of the arteries of the lower extremities, sharp pain occurs. The leg first turns pale, then turns blue, and the pulse disappears below the blockage. If treatment is not started immediately, ischemia gives way to tissue necrosis and gangrene develops.
Wandering pain in the lower extremities is observed in diseases of the veins:
Varicose veins are a widespread disease and an urgent problem not only in modern medicine, but also in cosmetology. Varicose veins are characterized by a dull, arching pain in the legs after they remain in one position for a long time. If the dilation of the veins is superficial, then the nodes of the dilated veins are clearly visible under the skin. In the case of deep varicose veins, only pain is present.
This is what varicose veins look like
Phlebitis is an inflammation of the veins, and if it is accompanied by thrombosis, then we are talking about thrombophlebitis. Most often it develops against the background of varicose veins, but can also occur with intact veins.
The affected leg swells, the skin over the inflamed vein turns red, and throbbing pain appears. With thrombosis, the limb becomes dark cherry in color. If no measures are taken, the patient may lose a limb due to gangrene.
Postthrombophlebotic syndrome is the consequences of varicose veins, which manifests itself as pain in the legs, especially at the end of the day, which goes away in the morning. Swelling and trophic changes appear in the lower extremities.
This is a very common cause of pain in the legs in both adults and children. Joint diseases have become increasingly common in recent years and represent a serious medical and social problem.
The most common joint diseases:
In case of joint diseases, the patient is concerned about pain in inflamed joints, swelling, and limited mobility. Each disease has its own symptoms and pain syndrome. Therefore, if such signs appear, it is imperative to consult a specialist, since treatment directly depends on the cause of joint inflammation.
Arthritis of the right knee joint
Very often, diabetes mellitus (especially type 2) is diagnosed precisely because a person consults a specialist about burning and pain in the legs. The cause of pain is diabetic polyneuropathy. This is a lesion of peripheral nervous structures, which develops as a result of a prolonged increase in blood sugar.
The pain is localized in the feet and legs. Patients complain of numbness, a crawling sensation, convulsions, and decreased sensitivity. Unfortunately, diabetic polyneuropathy often ends in the development of trophic complications and gangrene of the leg, which requires amputation. The only method of treatment and prevention is to maintain physiological levels of glucose in the blood.
This problem often leads to chronic leg pain. With flat feet, the arch of the foot loses its physiological shape. As a result, its shock-absorbing function is lost, which leads to overload of other parts of the lower limb. This leads to the development of pain due to muscle strain, and also increases the risk of developing degenerative joint diseases.
Pathology of the spine, in particular its lumbar region, is often accompanied by painful sensations in the legs. The cause of this pain is the peculiarity of the innervation of the lower extremities. With pathology of the lumbar and sacral spine, the nerve roots that innervate the lower extremities are compressed or irritated. This is what causes pain in the legs. A striking example is inflammation of the sciatic nerve.
If the sciatic nerve is damaged, pain spreads along the entire leg
Leg pain can be caused by muscle damage. Both infectious and aseptic causes can lead to myositis (inflammation of muscle tissue).
Most often, myalgia develops during acute viral diseases, such as influenza. Myositis also often occurs with systemic connective tissue diseases (dermatomyositis, polymyalgia rheumatica, polymyositis). In this case, you can feel the compactions in the muscles.
Myalgia and myositis can develop due to the side effects of certain medications, for example, with regular treatment with statins (drugs that lower blood cholesterol levels).
There are many other causes of leg pain, for example, tumor diseases, electrolyte imbalance, metabolic and endocrinological diseases. Therefore, every case of pain in the lower extremities should not be left without medical attention, as this may be a simple overexertion or a serious pathology that requires urgent intervention.
