Numbness of fingers and toes after chemotherapy

25 Jul 18

Recovery, rehabilitation after chemotherapy.

At the end of the sixth course of chemotherapy , I developed a complication - neuropathy. My palms, fingers, toes, and feet were numb. There was a persistent feeling of “gloves” and “socks”. I realized that I urgently needed to undergo recovery from chemotherapy. My attending chemotherapy doctor said that this happens often and I can contact neurologists or it will go away on its own in half a year.

I didn’t want to wait half a year, so I immediately turned to a good neurologist and completed the prescribed course of rehabilitation after chemotherapy. But, alas, to no avail! Then I contacted two more who prescribed other courses - but the result was zero. Well, I was patient and decided to wait half a year.

But when half a year passed, and then nine months, and the feeling of numbness in my limbs weakened slightly, but still persisted, I realized that something had to be done. Since what the medicine suggested did not work, you need to come up with something yourself. Moreover, I already had a similar experience before chemotherapy, when I cured my chronic runny nose with cold inhalations and hardening. I decided that recovery from chemotherapy needed to start right away.

I was well aware that many people managed to avoid disability after a course of chemotherapy through training. It was necessary to activate the processes in the palms. I began to rub my palms against each other for several minutes many times a day until a feeling of intense warmth appeared. I started going to the gym regularly to play volleyball and basketball. I took a course in the art of healing by laying on of hands from a good master, Lilana, who studied in Japan. Regular Reiki sessions that I performed on myself clearly helped me return to normal after powerful radiation and chemotherapy.

Recovery from chemotherapy took me almost all of my time, but I was persistent and unshakable.

Having quickly noticed an improvement in sensitivity in my palms after using physical exercises, I enthusiastically moved on to training my feet by hardening them. It was winter outside and I started by taking off my shoes after a light jog and walking barefoot through the crunchy snow. I walked in portions: in the snow until I felt pain from the cold, then I walked on the dried grass for several minutes, then again in the snow, and so on five or six times. As soon as the snow began to melt in March, I began to take off my shoes and walk barefoot on the ground with repeated trips to the snow.

At the end of March, I was already leaving my apartment barefoot and going to the sports ground. The neighbors looked at me a little sideways, but then they even started saying hello. And the watchwoman said that she had already seen several barefoot neighbors who had begun to imitate me.

What to do - a bad example is contagious!

In April, I went to Truskavets to drink Naftusya water and take a set of spa procedures. I continued to walk and run barefoot regularly.

The effect of these exercises appeared and grew. When I went to Crimea to the sea in May, I didn’t wear shoes at all and tried to walk longer on the pebbles. I returned from the sea with almost no signs of neuropathy.

From that moment on, in addition to active physical activity and training, I began recovery from chemotherapy - a rehabilitation course to restore the body’s immunity. This course was recommended to me by a scientist biochemist who specializes in the production of drugs that normalize the body’s immune status - according to his recommendations and course of treatment, some cancer patients even refused to undergo chemotherapy.

Since rehabilitation after chemotherapy

What was the purpose of the recovery course after chemotherapy and what did it include:

  • firstly: the action is aimed at restoring and increasing all factors of the body’s defense, including the induction of interferons, improving bone marrow hematopoiesis, reducing bone marrow aplasia;
  • secondly: to enhance the protein-synthetic and detoxification functions of the liver;
  • thirdly: to increase the strength of membranes of cells, tissues and blood, normalize the synthesis of steroid hormones, restore the intestinal mucosa and microflora;
  • and fourthly: after chemotherapy, prevention of metastases is needed - inhibition of tumor activity and reduction of secondary liver damage by chemotherapy drugs.
  • After completing the course for three weeks, I already saw signs of improvement in my condition - energy appeared, a feeling of fullness of strength, weakness and depression disappeared, appetite and sleep improved.

    I continued to take the medications for two months - as a result, with joint physical training and taking the course of medications, the signs of neuropathy almost completely disappeared. Victor recommended that I periodically repeat the course of his medications.

    You can find out what exactly I did in my book “How to beat cancer - preparing for chemotherapy. Treatment and rehabilitation."

    Every phrase, every word that is in the book was covered in my own practice. You will go through my entire recovery from chemotherapy as if you were by my side. I told you step by step how I was treated, what I drank, ate, what medications I took, and how I recovered from the most severe chemotherapy.

    And, most importantly, I told you with the help of what exercises I defeated cancer in my mind! And this, I repeat, was the main point - to defeat the disease in your mind.

    I can say one thing that very soon I turned into a person with faith and hope in my mind, cheerful spirit and body.

    Where is the turning point in a cancer patient’s illness?

    You can learn about my most important steps in the fight for life by reading my e-book

    Numbness of fingers and toes after chemotherapy

    When the main goal is to save lives, cancer patients sometimes do not attach importance to such “trifles” as the numbness of the arms and legs that often accompanies chemotherapy. However, this is how the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, a disease that affects about 40% of people who have undergone chemotherapy, make themselves known. This damage to nerve tissue can lead to such serious consequences as disruption of brain activity, emotional state and motor activity.

    Numbness of the fingers and toes is often experienced by patients at oncology clinics who are prescribed chemical therapy with drugs such as cisplatin, oxaliplatin, carboplatin, temolozomide, fludarabine, idarubicin, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vinorelbine, irinotecan, docetaxel, topotecan, trastuzumab, bortezomib and some others.

    Comprehensive health improvement using non-drug methods can significantly reduce the toxic effects of chemotherapy on the body. Among them, the most important ones are:

  • herbal medicine;
  • normalization of diet;
  • gymnastics for arms and legs;
  • breathing exercises;
  • other techniques chosen individually.
  • For more than 10 years, herbal health specialist Galina Mezhenina has been helping cancer patients before and after, as well as during chemotherapy, to minimize the side effects of using potent medications and prevent damage to nerve endings.

    Higher medical education as a pharmacist, scientific work, numerous internships, advanced training courses, and finally, rich practical experience as a herbalist - all this allows Galina Aleksandrovna to have a good understanding of the pathogenesis of complications after chemotherapy and offer effective means to overcome them.

    How does she shape her wellness programs? Individually, taking into account many factors, namely: the patient’s main and concomitant diagnoses, his age, physical and psychological condition.

    Based on such data, herbal collections are compiled. Each of them contains herbs that improve nerve conduction, strengthen nerve fibers, and improve cognitive functions.

    Galina Mezhenina uses various forms of herbal medicine: herbal teas and infusions, lotions, oils and ointments based on medicinal plants. The principle of their action does not contradict the mechanism of chemotherapy, but complements it, promoting the restoration of the body.

    Herbal health complexes support cancer patients who are prescribed chemical therapy, significantly reduce numbness in the arms and legs, stimulate the immune system and overall vitality.

    Results of statistics of accompanying phytohealth.

    The table below clearly shows how the addition of phytosupport statistically significantly improves the patient’s well-being during chemotherapy.

    The numbers indicate the number of people observed.

    “ Without herbal support ” - complaints and severity of symptoms after one or several chemotherapy sessions before contacting a herbalist.

    “ Accompanying herbal medicine ” - complaints and their severity after courses of chemotherapy in the same patients after starting a course of accompanying herbal medicine.

    How are you recovering from chemotherapy?

    Thank you Markiza for answering. The main thing is to make yourself believe that everything will be fine and believe!! I believe that everything will be fine for you and me!! After checking, I will definitely write back.

    So I went through an ultrasound scan and tests. Everything is okay. The doctor told me to come back in half a year. I started to restrain myself in food. But I really want to eat. But I’ve already lost my weight. My legs are already going numb, and now the weight is pressing on them. I walk a lot. 7 months have passed since the last chemotherapy. Markiza how are you doing??

    I read the entire correspondence. I realized that although everything is individual for everyone, the symptoms after chemotherapy are still the same. On May 6, 2010, all my female organs were removed, from June to September - 6 courses of chemotherapy, in October another operation - they wanted to remove the greater omentum, but it didn’t work out, they just carried out diagnostics, then another 4 courses of chemotherapy. The last course was in January 2011. Tomorrow I will go for the next scheduled examination (tumor marker, ultrasound, gynecologist). I came to the forum because of my legs. My legs started going numb in December 2010 and I still walk on pillows. And since April 2011, my hands have also gone numb in the morning, and then they really go away. I do not know what to do. I bought a massage mat for my feet in the morning and evening. My weight also recovered - it became the same as before the illness. And the fuzz on my face also became noticeable. The day before yesterday I removed it with wax, and it didn’t hurt at all. The hair is growing back, but it’s too early to take off the wig. I hope I’ll make up my mind only in July. I drink 1 tablespoon of Binfungin solution (chaga extract) 3 times a day. I would like to hear from someone who has already experienced numbness after chemotherapy. There are such? Good health to everyone.

    Elena Alexandrovna good evening!! I had a lot of chemo treatments... the last one was also in January. 2011. I also have numbness in my feet and fingers... but gradually I see that the numbness is going away... I feel it in my fingers. this is not the worst thing, believe me. I can live with this... my tailbone is still aching on the left side... lying on my back hurts for a long time... and at night I have difficulty turning over because of my butt)) but in the morning I get up and try to do exercises... to somehow stretch my bones and back. .and my left leg is pulling..but I think that these are all minor things)) as long as I don’t do more chemo and the tumor markers are normal..and the hair on my head will grow back..it’s also not a problem)) I also drink Befungin..and shiitake in I also take pills...and also bee bread...and royal jelly. I take it for immunity..AND I REALLY HOPE FOR A HEALING. BY THE WOUNDES OF JESUS CHRIST I AM ALREADY HEALED!! AND I WISH THE SAME FOR YOU!! THE MAIN THING IS TO BELIEVE!!

    Hello . It’s been 8 months since chemotherapy. My toes are still numb. That’s the feeling. My hands went numb at night only during chemotherapy, and after it they don’t go numb anymore. I was prescribed to drink Wobenzym to support the immune system. I didn’t drink anything else. I also had my uterus removed ovaries and also some kind of omentum. Honestly, I thought that I wouldn’t celebrate this New Year. But, contrary to all forecasts, everything is fine with me now. The tests are good, the marker is excellent. I feel good. And in the summer I will go to Kyiv to visit my children and see my granddaughter for the first time. She is already 2 years old. And the main thing in all this is to believe that everything will be fine. Don’t lose heart. We women are a strong people. Good luck to you in overcoming the disease. We will win. And of course the support of family and friends.

    The consequences of chemotherapy are still minor. I had a relative with the same problem: a tumor appeared on the left side of his neck and it didn’t hurt and didn’t bother him. We went to the hospital and they admitted him. There they opened him up, cleaned him up, removed the pus and stitched him up. Three months passed and the tumor appeared again, we went to another hospital where they opened up his tumor again and found something similar to bunches of grapes and they were removed, but that’s all They couldn’t remove them because some of the balls, as they said, were behind the arteries and they were afraid to damage them. He was discharged and told that there was a suspicion of cancer. They sent me to the regional hospital in Chelyabinsk where they determined that it was cancer. They gathered a council of doctors where they recommended to their colleagues from our city how and in what way to treat. BUT they decided that instead of radiation chemotherapy, they would simply do chemotherapy with a chemical solution and prescribed 6 sessions. When the guy was released as a lady after the first session, he told me. - that when I walked in, the doctor looked at me and said that he looked healthy, and she gave him a double dose of a chemical solution, but didn’t even ask how I was feeling and what I’d been eating lately and didn’t wonder if my body could handle it. After that, his white blood cells began to drop at home and after 5 days he died, SO GO TO THE DOCTORS MORE FREQUENTLY THEY ARE SMART AND KNOW EVERYTHING. (though not everyone, like in the movies with interns) after death everyone started pointing arrows at each other, but the person can’t be brought back. GOATS. (Magnitogorsk)

    Wow. I came across a page. I re-read it. 32 years. My legs also bother me. The last chemotherapy was at the end of April. It's been 3 months already. Legs don't go through. Somehow they hum constantly. I won’t say that they go numb, but they buzz a lot. Although, this happened to me a long time ago, when I had a standing job. And I move a lot and choose shoes according to myself. The anxiety still persists and my head sometimes hurts. I'm already starting to worry. The hair has already grown a couple of cm, it’s already nice to look at. I can't wait to take off my wig. Fatigue is still increased. I have a hard time staying at work. So I already want to run like before, like a turbo broom. It's a pity.

    When can I paint it? how will they grow back?

    Hair can be dyed 8 months after the last chemical treatment.

    I had 7 chemo treatments (the 8th was canceled so as not to kill me), I tolerated them very poorly, could not recover for a long time, could not walk on my own, weighed 51 kg with a height of 170 cm. I could not drive a car, of course. I also live not in Russia, but in the West. Europe. According to the scheme for the disabled, I received a new beautiful car as a benefit. And, lo and behold! I began to drive slowly, then walk on my own, my blood improved dramatically, and I gained weight. Nah. My legs are still dumb and I have problems with my intestines. But I'm alive, and I want to live.

    It seems like I sent a message.. wrote, wrote.. but no)))

    I want to recommend juices.. i.e. liquid food supplements, they advised me.. someone with oncology.. and very excellent results when taking them.. I ordered it for myself too.. though I’ve only been drinking for 5 more days.. 1 tablespoon 2 times a day.. yes, they are not cheap.. but health is more expensive.. my tumor markers have now jumped up.. and I really hope for these miraculous juices.. By the way, they were delivered to me within 7 days directly to my home.. I live in Europe. . and delivery costs 9 euros.. here is the name of these juices.. you can find about them on the internet.. 1/ Eternity 500ml, 2/ SpectraMaxx 750ml 3/ FuCoyDon Intensificado if you want to order.. I’ll tell you how I ordered..

    passed 6 chemo and 1 radiology of the lung passed 6 months, everything seems to be clear, but my shoulders hurt, my legs are tired when walking uphill and I have shortness of breath, weakness in my body, I don’t know how to get out of this impasse, anyone who has gone through this, tell me how to recover faster, thanks to everyone who responded.

    Causes of numbness and swelling of fingers

    Tingling and numbness of the extremities appears when blood circulation in the microvasculature is impaired and nerve endings are damaged.

    Numbness of the fingers is characteristic of many diseases of the bone, muscle, and nervous systems. Soreness and loss of sensitivity accompanies not only older people, but also the working population.

    Causes of numbness

    Pathologies of the spine (usually the cervical spine) - when deformations or dystrophic changes appear in the structure of the vertebrae, compression of blood vessels and nerve roots occurs. The proliferation of bone tissue - with excessive formation of osteophytes - causes compression of the nerve fibers, as a result of which pain appears in the cervical region, a crunching sound is heard when turning the head, and the thumb and index finger on the hands go numb.

    Muscle spasms that occur due to overexertion, incorrect position of the neck and head during sedentary work, and uncomfortable posture during the entire night's rest. They lead to compression of the nerve roots, disruption of the conduction of nerve impulses and loss of sensitivity in the fingers.

    Pathologies of vascular patency that arise due to compression of the arteries by protrusions, hernias or osteophyte formations, as well as when the lumen is blocked by atherosclerotic plaques. Numbness of the hands occurs due to cerebrovascular accidents and is often a precursor to a stroke.

    The symptom of loss of sensitivity in the fingers can develop against the background of strong experiences and prolonged stress. In rare cases, numbness of the limbs occurs during pregnancy or menopause.

    People do not pay enough attention to this symptom, believing that they simply rested their hand. With age, the symptom manifests itself more often and more strongly, and it takes a long time to restore sensitivity in the fingers.

    It is impossible to independently determine the cause of numbness. The presence of pathologies or diseases can only be identified by a specialist who makes a conclusion based on the results of the patient’s examination.

    What diseases are the symptoms typical for?

    Numbness of the fingers most often worries people with high blood cholesterol levels and hypertension, which indicate the development of atherosclerosis. Brain tomography allows you to determine the presence of pathology; with its help, circulatory disorders are excluded.

    The nerve endings of the upper extremities are affected by polyneuropathy, osteochondrosis, diseases of the endocrine system, injuries to the hands and the appearance of inflammatory processes.

    Causes degenerative changes in intervertebral discs. The discs bulge, acquire sharp edges and eventually gradually collapse. The progression of the pathology causes pain in the neck and shoulders, sensitivity decreases, and restrictions in movement appear. A characteristic symptom is numbness of the hands or fingers.

    Treatment is carried out with antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory drugs, massage and physiotherapeutic procedures. If the spinal canal is narrowed or an intervertebral hernia forms, surgical intervention is necessary.

    With anemia, the level of hemoglobin in the blood decreases. There is a latent form of the disease when hemoglobin is within normal limits, and iron levels are greatly reduced. With anemia, the main symptom is numbness of the fingers. To eliminate the pathology, it is enough to take iron-containing drugs, which will restore the level of hemoglobin in the blood.

    The primary form of the disease develops against the background of autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus) or prolonged vibration exposure during work in production.

    Numbness of the hands is accompanied by pallor and bluish discoloration of the skin. When a secondary form of the disease develops, it is necessary to establish the cause (a specific autoimmune disorder). Treatment requires complete cessation of smoking; pharmacological drugs include calcium channel blockers. In severe forms of the disease, surgical intervention is indicated.

    Diabetic neuropathy develops after long-term progression of diabetes mellitus. In the initial stages, the pathology occurs with minor symptoms, which are manifested by a general deterioration in health and well-being, so timely treatment is not carried out. By the time the disease is diagnosed, neurological disorders become persistent.

    Numbness of the hands manifests itself separately in the fingers, hands, or affects the entire upper and lower limb. To prevent deterioration and complications, it is necessary to regularly monitor blood glucose levels. To do this, use sugar-lowering drugs or administer insulin by injection.

    Diphtheria polyneuropathy

    Thanks to vaccination, the disease is rare, however, it cannot be ignored when diagnosing a cause such as numbness of the hands. Diphtheria manifests itself:

  • general signs of a cold;
  • increased soreness in the throat;
  • a gray coating appears in the respiratory tract;
  • lymph nodes located in the neck area become significantly enlarged;
  • The airways gradually become clogged, making breathing difficult.
  • After this, the conduction of nerve impulses deteriorates, and the patient is accompanied by tingling and numbness of the limbs. Treatment is carried out with a special diphtheria serum. The disease can be diagnosed in unvaccinated children and adults. That is why it is necessary to follow the vaccination calendar.

    A disease of an autoimmune nature, in which the skin, vascular walls and internal organs thicken, their functionality and elasticity are lost. The causes of the pathology are unknown, but most often it occurs in women aged 30-50 years. The disease is characterized by:

  • numbness of fingers;
  • the appearance of pinpoint hemorrhages on the skin;
  • muscle pain;
  • smoothing wrinkles on the face;
  • thickening of the skin;
  • tingling in fingers.
  • Treatment is aimed at eliminating symptoms and is carried out with the help of anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, laxatives, phlegm thinners and other medications.

    How to eliminate numbness

    When the nerve roots between the cervical vertebrae are pressed, tingling and numbness of the limbs occur. These symptoms can be eliminated only after the correct position of the vertebrae is restored. Such drugs are used in therapeutic treatment.

    1. Pharmaceutical drugs - used to eliminate inflammatory edema, spasms of muscle fibers, and reduce pain.
    2. Medications allow you to remove harmful metabolic products from the body and improve the functioning of capillaries and small vessels in the hands.
    3. Vitamin complexes and chondroprotectors that normalize the nutritional processes of cells of the nervous system and affect the source of inflammation.
    4. Therapeutic exercise – thanks to rhythmic muscle contraction, blood circulation is restored in the numb upper limbs.
    5. Manual therapy can eliminate swelling, improve the sensitivity of the hands and fingers, reduce the manifestation of degenerative changes, and eliminate paresthesia.
    6. Physiotherapy - ultrasound, laser or magnetic effects stimulate the regeneration of damaged tissues and improve blood circulation.
    7. Acupuncture, vacuum therapy and hirudotherapy are a good addition to the main treatment and accelerate recovery processes in the body.

    Numbness of the limbs is a symptom of serious diseases. In this case, the patient needs close medical supervision, a full examination and effective treatment. Timely diagnosis of pathological processes helps prevent complications.

    Causes of numbness in arms or legs

    When there is numbness in the arms or legs, a person does not feel these parts of his body, but feels a tingling or tingling sensation. This droppings occur due to pressure on nerve endings or blood vessels. The process of numbness can occur after numbness in the arms or legs, or from an incorrectly chosen position of a person’s limbs.

    But sometimes this sign indicates a more serious disease, such as diabetes. What are the causes of numbness in the hands or feet?

    Causes of numbness in the limbs. There are a number of reasons that contribute to the occurrence of numbness in the extremities. Younger people have begun to address such problems. This is due to a person’s sedentary lifestyle at work and at home, and low mobility. Not playing sports leads to problems with the back and muscles of the human body, and blood circulation in the blood vessels is disrupted.

    Uncomfortable positioning of the arms or legs while sleeping can lead to numbness. The process is caused by constriction of blood vessels, which partially or completely block the flow of plasma fluid to the extremities. This process is temporary, and nothing terrible happens in the human body.

    Concomitant diseases

    Raynaud's disease affects the small arteries of the extremities. The disease develops in the process of contraction of the vascular walls, this leads to the appearance of bloodless tissue areas. Such processes are characteristic of the human limb. During this disease, the color of the skin of the hands and feet changes.

    Raynaud's disease mainly affects women. This result is caused by constant exposure to cold water, avoiding gloves and mittens in cold weather.

    Coronary heart disease, stroke, myocardial infarction can lead to numbness only in a person’s left hand. In addition to numbness in the arm, the patient experiences an unpleasant sensation in the chest, which transmits pain to the forearm or back.

    Osteochondrosis depends on local changes in the cervical spine. The nerve is pinched, which leads to poor circulation. This is mainly a disease of older people, as the cervical vertebrae wear out. But in the modern world this disease has become “younger”.

    Disruption of the middle nerve of the arm can lead to numbness. The first symptoms of this disease first lead to numbness in the fingers, and if you do not seek help from a doctor in time, it leads to numbness of the entire limb.

    Carpal tunnel syndrome affects people who work at the computer, who like to do handicrafts, and creative people.

    Carpal tunnel syndrome problems are a common problem for modern people. This disease affects the function of the fingers. Bundles of connective tissue surround the wrist. The space between the fibrous tissue areas and the bony parts is called the carpal tunnel.

    • The diseases atherosclerosis and thrombophlebitis are accompanied by impaired circulation of the human body. These diseases provoke a decrease in oxygen content in the vessels, which causes numbness in the legs.
    • And with thrombophlebitis, discomfort is felt in the affected area. A patient suffering from these diseases feels numbness and coldness in the legs.
    • A herniated disc is characterized by pinching of the sciatic nerve, which is accompanied by numbness in the legs. Unpleasant sensations are observed in the thigh area, and the toes often go numb. With this disease, the lower limbs may become numb during sleep.
    • Neuritis is a consequence of an injury. The disruption of the nerve that was damaged during the injury causes numbness. With long-term treatment and therapeutic exercises, you can get rid of unpleasant sensations in the limbs.
    • Diabetes mellitus affects small blood arteries, which leads to pathology of nerve endings. Sensitivity in a person's legs disappears. It is very difficult to treat and can lead to serious consequences.
    • There are many facts that can cause numbness in a person’s legs. You should immediately consult a doctor and undergo a full examination. Only a doctor can make the correct diagnosis and prescribe treatment.

      After a complete examination and results, the doctor makes a diagnosis and prescribes treatment. The treatment method depends on the diagnosis. Medication can be used; if necessary, surgical intervention can be used.

      For some, it’s enough to do physical therapy and visit the pool. But physical therapy will alleviate the patient’s poor condition with any disease that causes numbness in the legs.

      An excellent way to restore blood circulation is general turpentine baths and special foot baths with resin, read more at the link below.

      Doctors say the disease is easier to prevent than to treat. To do this, it is necessary to observe a number of common truths. One of the rules is a healthy lifestyle, which means proper nutrition and physical activity. It is advisable for people to visit gyms, swimming pools, and go for walks. These actions will help normalize blood circulation in the human body and prevent numbness of the limbs.

      A person must monitor his diet throughout his life. Do not abuse alcoholic beverages and do not smoke.

      When performing physical work, a person must take a break.

      This is especially true for those who like to work in their summer cottage. Otherwise, most people, after winter, rush to their “haciendas” and are ready to stand for hours in a half-bent state. The spine suffers greatly from such actions, and this leads to numbness in a person’s arms and legs. You should not suddenly lift heavy loads; this has a bad effect on the spine and nerve endings.

      When sleeping, a person needs to take a comfortable position and sleep on the “correct” pillow. People should ensure complete comfort while sleeping.

      A person’s health is in his hands, and we must constantly remember this. Then you can avoid a large number of diseases.
