How to treat gout with folk remedies

Gout literally means “foot trap” in Greek. People suffering from these chronic diseases understand the meaning of this phrase well, since the disease occurs with severe painful symptoms, completely making it impossible to live and move normally during periods of exacerbation.

The disease is based on a disorder of purine metabolism, leading to the deposition of crystalline sodium urate in tissues, and more often in the joints of the first (big) toe and kidneys. In this case, the affected areas cannot function fully.

Gout can be primary, acting as an independent disease due to genetically determined enzyme disorders, and secondary, against the background of a pathogenetic factor or disease (leukemia, lead intoxication, treatment with diuretics, riboxin, etc.). Primary gout is hereditary. The disease manifests itself with an acute attack of gout, which has a typical clinical picture (see symptoms and treatment of gout)

During the course of the disease there are:

  • acute relapsing stage, which gradually turns into
  • chronic gout with the formation of tophi and polyarthritis of the affected joints.
  • Disease provocateurs

    Provoking factors that lead to an increase in the concentration of uric acid in the body or to disruption of the processes of its excretion by the urinary organs:

  • Treatment with certain medications: cyclosporins, aspirin, diuretics, Riboxin;
  • Chronic diseases: obesity, blood pathologies, diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, chronic renal failure, metabolic syndrome;
  • Natural factors – cold, wind, high humidity;
  • Lead poisoning;
  • Received organ(s) transplantation;
  • Past infectious disease;
  • Surgeries, injuries and microtraumas, heavy physical and mental stress, examinations with the introduction of contrast agents;
  • Prolonged fasting;
  • Excess purines in the diet - alcohol, fatty meats, seafood, carbonated drinks, etc.
    • men over 40 years old – the majority of cases
    • women during menopause (see symptoms of menopause in women)
    • Typical target locations
    • metatarsophalangeal joint of the foot - up to 60% of cases
    • talocalcaneal joint
    • ankle joint
    • knee-joint
    • elbow joint
    • small joints of the hand
    • extremely rare: spinal joints, hip joint, jaw joint
    • What happens with gout?

      In simple terms, uric acid salts accumulate in the form of deposits in the joint, which leads to inflammation and subsequent destruction of structures (cartilage, bone). This is a long pathogenetic process. An attack of arthritis begins against the background of loss of sodium urate crystals into the joint cavity, or rather into the joint fluid.

      Uric acid crystals are absorbed by both neutrophils of the joint fluid and the cells of the articular membrane - synoviocytes, as a result of which lysosomal enzymes are activated, triggering the inflammatory reaction. The pH of the joint fluid decreases, which promotes further precipitation of urate salts in the joint.

      Symptoms of gout preceding the onset of an acute attack (1-2 days before its onset) are as follows:

      • unpleasant pulling sensations in the joint area, slight discomfort in the big toe
      • general malaise, nervousness
      • insomnia
      • fever, chills
      • dyspepsia
      • Symptoms of a gout attack

        Acute arthritis begins with sharp pain in the area of the metatarsophalangeal joint (connecting the toe and metatarsus) of the big toe with the following characteristic features:

      • starts at night
      • the pain is unbearable and instantly worsens with the slightest movement of the leg, contact with a blanket or clothing
      • rapid increase in pain over 2-6 hours
      • swelling of the joint occurs
      • the skin over the joint turns red, then after a couple of days begins to peel off
      • hyperthermia up to 49 C and chills are noted
      • The duration of the attack is 3-10 days, then the symptoms subside and the function of the affected joint is gradually restored. BUT! Gout will definitely remind you of itself more than once. Attacks will occur over a certain period of time, from a couple of months to several years, then exacerbations will occur more often and last longer, affecting and deforming more and more joints.

        The chronic course of gout is characterized by a triad of symptoms:

      • Damage to joints up to deformation and immobilization;
      • Formation of tophi or dense painful nodules 0.1 mm - 3-4 cm on the hands, elbows, ears, feet, less often - on the sclera, tongue, and scrotum;
      • Damage to internal organs - kidneys, blood vessels, heart.
      • What to do in case of an acute attack of gouty arthritis?

        Immobilization of the affected area:
      • Strict bed rest
      • Immobilization of the affected leg with fixation, ensuring an elevated position of the limb
      • Avoiding contact of the sore leg with a blanket or underwear
      • Pain relief and anti-inflammatory treatment - oral medications

        Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (list from weak to strongest drugs according to analgesic effect): Ibuprofen, Diclofenac sodium, Indomethacin, Movalis, Butadione, Ketazone, Nimesulide (a strong drug, the use of which must be strictly dosed) see the full list of NSAIDs, injections for pain and ointments from pain.

        The tropolone alkaloid is the herbal preparation Colchicine. Many patients mistakenly believe that Colchicine can cure gout and take it between attacks. Such actions are absolutely wrong and dangerous tactics. It is allowed to take Colchicine from the beginning of the precursors of an attack, during the entire attack and 3-4 days after the end of the acute phase.

        Uricosuric drugs are used for the active removal of uric acid - Azapropazone, Ppro-benecid, benzbroterone, Sulfinpyrazone.

        Agents that inhibit the production of uric acid - Allopurinol, Milurit.

        Corticosteroid drugs - if other short-course therapy is ineffective. Prednisolone internally or by intra-articular injection.

        Applications to the affected joint with Vishnevsky liniment, Dimexide

        Strict low-calorie diet

        Liquid and semi-liquid food - vegetable broths, liquid porridges, one-ingredient vegetable puree soups. When gout worsens, treatment will not give the desired effect if the patient does not follow a special diet, which should become not just a temporary restriction, but a way of life.

        Abundant alkaline drink - mineral alkaline water (Truskavets waters, Essentuki 17, 4, Borjomi), lemon juice and lemon water, oat decoction.

        Exclusion of foods rich in purines - fatty meat and fish, alcohol, offal, green peas, cauliflower, etc.

        Treatment of gout with traditional methods

        Treatment with folk remedies should begin during the interictal period and continue for a long time in order to prevent exacerbation or at least extend the period of well-being. Any of the above methods should be agreed with your doctor!

        Is it possible to treat gout with folk remedies at home?

        Throughout his life, a person faces many diseases. Many of them can only be overcome with medication or by seeking medical intervention.

        Some are quite amenable to simple and unsophisticated home treatment. In this article we will talk about how to cure a disease such as gout at home and using traditional medicine.

        What is gout? Surely you have heard a similar word, and if you don’t know what it means, we will enlighten you. Gout is a form of metabolic disorder in which salts are typically not flushed out of your body.

        At first, they settle on the joints and bones in an even shell, thereby even helping to strengthen the skeleton, but over time, the accumulation of large salt deposits in one place leads to the formation of growths on the joints, which prevent you from carrying out your life activities.

        Fortunately, such a disease is extremely rare today ; per thousand people, the percentage of cases can reach up to two hundredths of a percent, but when faced with this disease, you need to know how to act quickly and efficiently to avoid unpleasant consequences.

        There are certain groups of people who must be careful about their health so as not to fall victim to this insidious disease. So, at risk are men aged from the age of forty years, as well as women after menopause.

        Gout makes life significantly more difficult for people, especially if there are reasons for the development of the disease. Very often we ourselves unconsciously prepare the body for the development of a particular disease and ultimately get an undesirable result.

        The first reason and factor is poor nutrition. Consuming large amounts of foods containing large amounts of salt. Not all substances are excreted by the genitourinary system and it is likely that you yourself will provoke the deposition of salts in the body.

        Also, naturally increased levels of uric acid in your body should force you to keep your condition under constant control. It is in this situation that you are among the first at risk.

        Alcohol lovers are no exception to our list. Alcohol contributes to poor leaching of salts, and this threatens a possible encounter with gout in older age.

        Sometimes gout becomes an unpleasant surprise for those who, it would seem, led a correct and measured lifestyle. Of course, in such cases, a comprehensive examination of the body is necessary to identify the causes with tests.

        Characteristic symptoms

        Symptoms of gout, unfortunately, become noticeable only when the disease is already in the middle stage of development and has been parasitizing your joints for a long time.

        At the first symptoms , a person may feel slight discomfort from the resulting inflammation of one of the joints.

        As a rule, some note the aching nature of the pain . This sensation occurs when salt build-ups begin to touch nearby vessels.

        In cases where the growths do not interfere with nearby organs, the pain is periodic. As a rule, the affected area becomes inflamed and this is accompanied by redness. Also, sometimes the leg begins to swell, which leads to an increase in its volume at the site of inflammation.

        Some note an increase in body temperature as a result of inflammatory processes occurring in it and the body continues to react to them.

        Some claim that they do not experience any symptoms at all, and they begin to suspect the disease as a result of a sharp decrease in immunity and general poor health . One way or another, gout is a disease that can be distinguished in the early stages, which means that measures to prevent it, taken in time, can completely save you from the disease.

        Some people consider the following to be signs of gout. Patients report a sudden appearance of small but noticeable growths on the arms or parts of the legs , which become larger over time.

        Sometimes the growths can hurt and cause discomfort, and sometimes they become just painless companions. One way or another, such signs cannot be ignored and your action in response to such a reaction of the body should be to consult a doctor.

        Is it possible to cure otitis media in adults using traditional methods? Find out in this article.

        If you are diagnosed with a disease such as gout, any doctor should warn you against possible risks. So, poor diet or lifestyle can lead to complications of the disease , so be prepared for the fact that you will be prescribed a strict diet.

        It is necessary to limit salt intake in the body, and you should also forget about legumes.

        You should not drink alcohol , as in any quantity they can affect the stagnation of salts in your body, which will lead to the formation of growths on the blood vessels.

        It is worth drinking as much liquid as possible , preferably water or green tea. These drinks wash salts out of the body well and give you the opportunity to forget about the problem.

        How to treat at home?

        Many people prefer traditional methods of treatment rather than medications.

        Unfortunately, the course of medications prescribed by doctors for gout can have a rather serious impact on your liver, because sometimes, in very advanced stages, antibiotics are used, but folk remedies will be aimed specifically at treating gout and will not cause harm to the body as a whole.

        Therefore, if you are a supporter of traditional medicine, you can get acquainted with a number of effective recipes and try them for yourself.

        A healing decoction containing chamomile is a very good antiseptic.

        The decoction disinfects tissues and joints, thereby destroying salt deposits. Chamomile can also soothe pain and relax tense muscles.

        A decoction of fir cones is popular. To do this, you need to rinse several found cones well with running water and place them in a pan with boiling water. Cover with a lid and wait fifteen minutes. After this, the broth is filtered and consumed half an hour before meals in the amount of half a glass.

        This decoction also affects the breakdown of salts in the body and their rapid leaching.

        A recipe that any housewife can follow is boiled rice. It perfectly cleanses joints and normalizes their functioning.

        You need to rinse two tablespoons of rice and leave it overnight with cold water.

        In the morning you need to boil the rice, bringing it to a boil, remove from heat, cool slightly and put back on the fire. In this order, the procedure can be done about four times and the resulting mixture can be left to cool.

        The rice is washed under running water and eaten. This procedure must be completed for exactly 45 days. Reviews about this recipe are very positive, so if you suffer from gout, try to test the effectiveness of this recipe for yourself.

        Find out from this article whether you can drink chamomile during pregnancy.

        Many gout patients note that black radish juice helped restore their vigor and relieve them of illness. It is this that promotes the rapid dissolution and removal of salts.

        This juice is used one teaspoon before meals, in courses for 10-15 days. After this, you need to take a two-week break and start using it again.

        The course of procedures should not be completed until, according to general calculations, you drink 3 liters of radish juice. But believe me, after the first course of techniques you will feel a significant improvement.

        Bay leaves are also known in the practice of treating gout. Several large leaves are poured with boiling water, about 1.5 cups, and infused for one hour.

        After this, take one tablespoon of the decoction each time before meals.

        The decoction helps reduce pain and affects the joints, helping them get rid of the disease.

        What is not recommended to do?

        There are a number of restrictions that you should be aware of when treating gout. So, give up alcohol, which contributes to the stagnation of salts.

        In addition, you should try to stop eating salty foods.

        Legumes can harm your body, so eliminate them from your diet.

        Forget about sweets, despite the fact that sweets, chocolate and other sweets do not contain salts. You need to achieve clear functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and removal of salts from the body.

        Limit your consumption of flour - it has a negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract.

        Prevention of gout treatment is a moderate diet that excludes the consumption of salts in large quantities. Try to measure portions, remove fatty, fried and salty foods.

        You also need to be tested for salt levels in your blood twice a year, especially if you have unfavorable heredity or are at risk.

        Carefully examine your body for swelling or induration, as well as the formation of growths. Try to lose excess weight - often this is what leads the body to decline and the development of gout.

        Gout shouldn't interfere with your normal lifestyle. Fight it yourself and with your correct, tactful and quick approach, you will quickly cope with the disease.

        Be healthy and be sure to remember that your body and your health are only in your hands, so sometimes you should be overly vigilant and attentive.

        Treatment of gout with baking soda

        Gout is a disease characterized by the deposition of uric acid salts in various tissues of the body. To combat the disease, both drug anti-inflammatory therapy and traditional methods are used: for example, treating gout with baking soda.

        The first symptom of the disease is an acute attack of gouty arthritis - inflammation of one joint. The inflammatory process is accompanied by:

      • Unexpected severe pain with a feeling of pressure in the affected area.
      • Significant increase in uric acid levels.
      • Swelling of the diseased joint, increased temperature in the area of inflammation.
      • Redness and a shiny appearance on the skin around the joint.
      • The pain becomes most severe in the evening and at night; during the day the pain decreases.

        Baking soda for gout - good or bad?

        Gouty arthritis is characterized by increased acidity, which disrupts the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and leads to kidney failure. The benefit of sodium bicarbonate lies in its alkaline properties, which reduce acidity and reduce the risk of the appearance of uric acid salts in cartilage and tissues. Thus, baking soda becomes a real salvation, especially in the early stages of the disease.

        With regular use, patients can experience a number of positive changes:

      • The level of uric acid decreases.
      • Peristalsis increases, which allows you to cleanse the body of accumulated toxins.
      • Swelling decreases and pain syndrome decreases.
      • The deposits gradually dissolve, which helps get rid of tophi.
      • The tophi become thinner; with prolonged use, the tophi may disappear completely. With gout on the legs, the disappearance of tophi allows a person to move normally.
      • The acid-base balance is normalized, kidney function improves.
      • How to drink soda correctly for gout?

        Oral intake of soda powder is a good addition to ointments, baths and lotions. It is very important to drink the soda solution correctly, otherwise the desired effect will not occur. For this:

      • As soon as you hear a hissing sound, drink the solution in one gulp.
      • You need to take the milk-soda solution for at least 5-7 days. In the initial stage of the disease, improvements can occur as early as the 5th day of administration; in advanced cases, the solution should be consumed for 1.5-2 weeks.

        Treatment of gout with baking soda according to Neumyvakin

        Neumyvakin believes that the cause of gout lies in a violation of the acid-base balance, leading to disruptions in the functioning of all body systems. He recommends baking soda to normalize pH and hydrogen peroxide to oxygenate the body.

        According to Neumyvakin's recipe, soda is taken one glass of solution per 30 minutes. before meals three times a day. Dosages are increased gradually - you need to start with 1/5 tsp, gradually increasing the dose to 1 tablespoon. The professor recommends diluting baking soda only in warm water; you can also use heated milk instead of water.

        Treatment of gout with soda and iodine

        To prepare a medicinal iodine-soda solution you will need:

      • 2 liters of hot water, in which you need to dissolve 2 tsp. soda and 6-7 drops of iodine.
      • Let the resulting solution cool to a temperature of 40-42 degrees, pour it into a basin.
      • Place your feet in the basin and hold for 15-25 minutes. If the water starts to cool, add hot water so that the temperature always remains 40-42 degrees.
      • To treat joints of the knees and hands, use the same recipe with soda and iodine solution. Soak gauze or a towel in an iodine-soda solution and cover the affected area with it. Leave for 15-20 minutes.

        Soda compress for gout

        The recipe looks like this:

      • Take 50 gr. sunflower oil and the same amount of kerosene.
      • Grate 20 g on a fine grater. laundry soap, mix with oil and kerosene.
      • Add 1/4 tbsp to the mixture. soda powder, mix all ingredients thoroughly again to obtain a homogeneous mass.
      • Apply the mixture to the affected area, cover with a plastic bag and a warm cloth. Leave for 20 minutes, rinse off any remaining mixture with warm water.
      • Soda baths for gout

        A good remedy for reducing the appearance of tophi:

      • In 3 l. water at room temperature, dilute 10-12 drops of iodine and 3 tsp. soda
      • Keep your feet in the solution for 10-15 minutes, after the bath you can make a lotion with kerosene.
      • Also, a soda-salt bath is an effective remedy for gout, accompanied by severe swelling and skin irritation. Add 500 g to a warm bath. sea salt and soda powder, lie in the solution for 25-30 minutes. The procedure is carried out daily, the course is 10 days.

      • Reduced stomach acidity and the presence of acute gastrointestinal diseases.
      • Hypotension and arterial hypertension.
      • Disorders of the thyroid gland.
      • Pregnancy and lactation period.
      • Urogenital and sexually transmitted infections.
      • Victoria, 49 years old, Yekaterinburg.

        Several years ago, painful lumps appeared on my feet in the area of the big toe joints. Doctors said that it was impossible to stop the development of gouty arthritis, but I decided to try Neumyvakin’s method. The swelling subsided quite quickly and the pain went away. I continue treatment.

        Vasily, 56 years old, Serov.

        I have been battling gout for several years now. I tried everything - official medicine, various folk remedies. Nothing helped. I recently read reviews about soda treatment and started making compresses and taking baths. The swelling became less, and the joints stopped hurting at night. I continue the course and hope for a full recovery.
