Spinal diseases have begun to haunt modern man. Lifestyle, lack of strength training, and many hours at the computer have a negative impact on back health.
Spinal curvature is diagnosed in many people of different ages. Young people are especially at risk (read more about the causes of scoliosis).
Young people - boys from 18 to 25 years old - are most susceptible to lateral curvature of the spine (scoliosis). This is due to the rapid growth of the spinal column and the slow growth of the back muscles.
In connection with this situation, young men have a number of questions about studying in military educational institutions and further service with such a diagnosis.
What sports can and should be done with scoliosis? We will talk about this in our article.
The possibility of serving in the army with a curvature of the thoracic spine is submitted to the draft commission for consideration.
The commission must collect the following documents:
Conscripts are grouped according to health indicators according to Article 66:
Additional examinations at the military registration and enlistment office await men with second-degree scoliosis at the initial stage, when the spine is subject to treatment.
Read our review on how to use Aflutop for effective treatment of the spine.
Work in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service attracts many young people. These are elite professions for real men.
Scoliosis of 1st and 2nd degree can be worked in some police departments.
When applying for a job in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an examination is carried out by a military medical commission. They pass a verdict on whether a given person is fit or not for such a specific, grueling job.
Of course, there is a limit to everything, and with a diagnosis of third or fourth degree curvature of the spine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the FSB has nothing to do. The work involves risks, stress and requires good physical fitness.
The commission in its actions relies on the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation dated July 14, 2010 N 523.
In accordance with this instruction, the asymptomatic course of intervertebral osteochondrosis (Schmorl's hernia), non-structural scoliosis “up to 8 degrees” are not grounds for the application of this article, and do not interfere with service or admission to military and security educational institutions.
That is, if a person has a curvature angle of up to 8 degrees, then he is fit for service without any obstacles, and if it is over 8 degrees, then he can serve, but not in all departments and units.
Military universities are designed to educate officers - the elite of the country's air force. These educational institutions provide a prestigious, highly paid, male profession. For many decades in a row, young people have dreamed of putting on the uniform of an elite military school.
When selecting applicants, the commission is guided by the Resolution “ON APPROVAL OF THE REGULATIONS ON MILITARY MEDICAL EXAMINATION.”
The initial stage of spinal curvature will not be an obstacle to admission to other educational institutions of this nature that are less known. You can read about all stages and types of scoliosis here.
However, it is worth remembering that this disease is treatable at an early stage.
To do this, you can use several methods, such as:
If scoliosis progresses and brings a lot of discomfort to the patient, doctors use corset therapy.
If you make an effort, you can make your dream come true by improving your health and enrolling in an elite educational institution.

Potential soldiers must have good eyesight
Every future conscript or man who plans to serve in the security forces of his homeland is interested in the admission criteria.
The medical commission can easily refuse due to poor health.
Good eyesight is one of the key conditions for a military career.
Many male representatives have repeatedly wondered whether people with astigmatism are recruited into the army.
Only an ophthalmologist can make an unambiguous verdict, having previously carried out all the necessary examinations.
The commission conducts a medical examination of the future soldier. During it, a decision is made on suitability for military service.
A guy is being examined by an ophthalmologist
The eyes allow a person to perceive 80% of the information about the surrounding space and are perhaps the most important sense organs.
There is a whole list of ophthalmological pathologies that exempt a man from military service.
Astigmatism is not listed as an independent disease. However, myopia greater than -6 D and hyperopia greater than +8 D are considered military ineligibility.
This is what astigmatic disorder looks like
Important: Only after a thorough examination is it known whether a conscript is admitted or not.
There are the following categories of conditions of service in law enforcement units:
B – Compliant, but there are a narrow range of restrictions.
B – Suitable with restrictions or special conditions.
D – Temporarily unsuitable with a possible deferment for recovery.
Doctors have the last word
If we transfer the compliance groups specifically to ophthalmological indicators of suitability, we get the following picture:
A - Only anatomical discrepancies in the position or size of the eyelids, as well as minor deviations in the functioning of the conjunctiva, are acceptable. Myopia is allowed from 3 to 6 D ( more details here ), farsightedness from 6 to 8 D, astigmatism in progression from 2 to 4 D. With such indicators, based on the diagnostic results, the conscript will be fit for service.
B — Mildly expressed diseases without prospects for development are acceptable. Pathologies of the cornea, iris, lens, optic nerve and retina are included in this group, as are initial glaucoma and diseases of the muscles of the organ of vision. But, even if he has one of the listed diseases, the conscript will enter the service, however, he will be assigned to specialized troops.
B - Limited suitability with 4 to 6 D astigmatism.
D - Temporarily suitable or unsuitable if the disease has the prospect of rapid progression from moderate to high severity.
D - Unsuitable with astigmatism greater than 6 D.
More significant deviations in the operation of the optical system of the visual organ may cause unsuitability for service in the law enforcement agency.
Only an ophthalmologist can answer in more detail the question of whether people with astigmatism are admitted to the Suvorov School and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Astigmatism is often an obstacle to military service.
This condition causes difficulty focusing vision on a specific object and interferes with clear vision.
Astigmatists, as a rule, remain in reserve
Important: Amblyopia can cause exclusion from military service only if there is a difference in refraction of 6 D or more.
The difference in refraction in the presence of astigmatism from 4 to 6 D allows the conscript to be in group “B”.
A refraction exceeding 6 D will be a strong argument for the medical commission to determine a conscript as unfit for military service.
Fact: If there is 3 D in one eye and 9 D in the other, then the man is included in the “D” category, which completely exempts him from military service.
Depending on the country, the indicators of a conscript’s suitability or unsuitability for serving in the army in a particular situation may also change.
Whether a person with astigmatism will be fit to serve in the Russian army depends on the degree of development of the disease .
According to the standard pattern for 34 st. in the “Schedule of Diseases”, only those who fall into category “D” are unfit to serve in the army.
The regulation of restrictions in Ukraine is determined by Order No. 402 of the Ministry of Defense, or rather on its 30th page.
Military service in Ukraine
If a conscript has ophthalmological contraindications to military service, it is first determined whether this disease can be cured. In case of a positive result, a temporary deferment is given to combat the pathology.
Just like in Russia, people who fall into category “D” are unsuitable.
Important: There are nuances regarding astigmatism.
Men with a refractive difference of at least 3 D, but not more than 6 D, are not conscripted during peacetime.
Such citizens, even in case of war, are given special restrictions on their assignment.
The regulation of restrictions in relation to conscripts for military service in Belarus is determined by the Appendix to the Resolution on Military Medical Examination, Art. 29.
According to the current laws of the republic, citizens who fall into category “D” become unsuitable.
Category "B" means limited suitability. Such men will be called up exclusively during martial law in the country.
When entering service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, special attention is paid to the categories of suitability and degree of development of the disease.
Is it possible to join the cadets?
When entering the Suvorov Cadet School, during a medical examination, potential students are considered unsuitable for astigmatism of more than 5 D.
In case of mild ophthalmological pathology, they may be called up, but where exactly they are hired to serve with astigmatism can only be competently explained by law enforcement officers and doctors themselves during a medical examination.
Judging by the capabilities, those with weak stage astigmatism can be recruited into the ground forces, motorized infantry, or even tank forces.
Even with ophthalmological pathology there is a prospect for a military career
Interesting: If a conscript has a higher education or knowledge in the field of computer technology, if he really wants to, he can be hired as a programmer, however, for this he must undergo appropriate training during his service.
If any controversial issues arise during the medical examination, the conscript is sent for examination to an additional commission.
The referral should be to a specific medical institution, most often at the place of registration of the conscript.
There, doctors will conduct additional studies and examinations, after which a decision on suitability will be made.
