Feet and toes get cold

What causes cold feet and toes?

The feet are far from the heart muscle, blood is delivered here more slowly, and this already leads to the fact that the feet are cold. When your feet are cold, the reasons can be very diverse. You can freeze if you are in an uncomfortable position, blood access is impaired, and your feet become cold and numb. An incorrect or unbalanced diet can also cause cold feet. If such manifestations pass quickly and without a trace, then you should not fear for your health. It is enough to eliminate side effects, but everything can be much more serious.

Principles of thermoregulation

A healthy human body temperature is 36.6 degrees. Temperature ranges from 36.3 to 37.0. The “hottest” organ is the liver. And enzymes are adapted to work at elevated temperatures. It is the most complex thermoregulation system that controls the level of heat in the blood and body.

  • The brain is our main thermometer. In particular, the hypothalamus is endowed with such functions. In addition to various functions, it also detects the temperature of our blood and “gives commands” to different places in the body to maintain the temperature at the proper level.
  • The heart is the organ that pumps blood, the temperature of which is on average 37 degrees. As a result, every cell of our body also has this temperature.
  • The liver is the most powerful organ where heat itself is produced. Biochemical reactions located in the liver provide the heat that heats the blood.
  • All of these organs are responsible for maintaining human body temperature and producing heat. But our blood vessels play the main role.

    At the right moment, when it’s hot “on the surface,” the capillaries expand and a significantly larger volume of blood passes through them. The heat is transferred outside, and we do not overheat inside. As soon as it gets cold “outside”, the blood vessels contract and the blood stops circulating so actively. Heat transfer drops sharply, and all the heat remains inside. It is worth understanding that the main element of the body’s thermoregulation system is the skin.

    If the foot comes into contact with something cold, there will be intense heat loss, which can lead to hypothermia. Therefore, when the legs are open and in contact with the floor, the skin vessels close, and this prevents heat transfer. Thus, cold feet can be a manifestation of normal thermoregulation of the body.

    Manifestation of diseases

    Our main vessel is the aorta of the heart. Various “branches” come out of it, which go to various parts of the whole body, including the feet. Cold feet are a heart defect when there is narrowing in the aorta, especially in its descending part. The amount of blood that flows to the lower extremities is significantly reduced. This defect is called coarctation of the aorta. It can appear in two ways:

  • A person has really cold feet and when walking, he begins to limp.
  • The pressure in the upper half of the body is high (hypertension is detected during diagnosis).
  • Cold feet can be a manifestation of some other diseases. It could be:

  • Neurosis
  • Vegetative-vascular dystonia
  • Thyroid diseases
  • Atherosclerosis of the vessels of the lower extremities
  • Phlebeurysm
  • Iron deficiency
  • Diabetes
  • Anemia
  • Raynaud's disease.
  • With such diseases, the feet of the lower extremities constantly freeze. This ruins the lives of many people, especially women. Most often, the feet get cold precisely because of poor blood circulation. To keep your feet always warm, you need to know how blood vessels behave. It is enough to diagnose the signs of disease as follows: measure the pressure in the arms and legs, and then compare the data. Normally, it should be the same, the difference is less than 20 mm. rt. Art. And with coarctation of the aorta, the difference becomes enormous. On the legs the pressure will be lower, and on the arms it will be 20-30 mm higher. rt. Art. With such a pathology, at a minimum, you need to consult a doctor. Doppler scanning of the vessels of the arteries of the lower extremities will show the result.

    If the leg is cold and has a bluish color, these are definitely signs of some kind of disease. But, if the leg is cold and pink, this is simply a physiological deviation from the norm and is a natural phenomenon.

    Among other factors that contribute to the phenomenon of cold feet, the following are noted:

  • Smoking and excess blood sugar. In such cases, there is every chance of circulatory disorders occurring in the extremities (obliterating atherosclerosis of the vessels of the lower extremities). The large leg vessels in the femoral artery that supply the feet and legs begin to become damaged. That is, they form damage to the inner layer of blood vessels. Atherosclerotic plaques begin to form, the narrowing becomes critical, and blood flow is poor. First, “a cold snap occurs,” then intermittent claudication syndrome and trophic disorders in the form of ulcers may begin, and then gangrene is not far away. The vessels should be checked by a specialist.
  • Obesity, constant fatigue, “unwillingness to do anything” are signs of hypothyroidism, namely a decrease in thyroid function. It is responsible for all metabolic processes. And if these processes are not active or reduced, then this phenomenon will be called metabolic activity in hypothyroidism. At the same time, your feet really become cold. To maintain human life, thyroid-stimulating hormone must be produced. It regulates thyroid function. If there are not enough such hormones, then life activity is less active and the feet become cold. This phenomenon can be detected using a thyroid hormone test. If there are not enough such hormones, the doctor will replace them in the form of tablets.
  • If your feet are very cold, you should not wait long to see a doctor. Although it is recommended to just wear warm socks or warm yourself with a heating pad, you should understand that it is better to give up smoking, and also avoid tea and coffee (they remove iron from the body). Try a foot massage, although if you have varicose veins, you shouldn’t massage or rub your feet. If there are no varicose veins, then warm baths help. It is enough to fill two basins with water. One with cold water, the other with hot water. You need to place your legs in these basins one by one. Use the procedure based on the principle of a contrast shower once a week. An alcohol compress is also effective in warming up. To prevent vascular diseases, physical activity is useful, for example: cycling, dancing, walking at a brisk pace.

    It is also advisable to follow a certain diet. Review your diet. A person’s diet must include meat, namely veal or beef. More than 20% of iron is absorbed from it. Eat black bread, cereals, dill, parsley, lettuce. The priority is rose hips, buckwheat flowers, dandelion stems and roots.

    In cold weather, wear loose shoes so that tight ones do not interfere with blood moving freely through the vessels. The insoles should be thermally regulated, and the person should move as much as possible. It is advisable not to go out hungry; fight cholesterol. In such cases, the question will not arise why your feet are cold.

    What do cold fingers mean?

    Do your fingertips often get cold even in warm weather? The reasons can be different: from banal physical inactivity to serious pathologies that require mandatory consultation with a doctor.

    If your hands are cold - physiological reasons

    If your fingertips are constantly cold, the reason may lie in the peculiarities of your physiology. In particular, the causes of cold fingers can be:

    Circulatory disorders. This is the most common cause of cold fingers. There are people who, from birth, have blood circulating slowly in their limbs, which makes them constantly cold. At the same time, poor blood circulation can be associated with certain diseases: high cholesterol, heart disease and others.

    Low pressure. If you are hypotensive, then you will have to get used to the problem of cold fingers. Keep your hands warm, and in winter be sure to wear warm gloves. If low blood pressure is caused by some disease (for example, endocrine disorders), then the underlying disease must be treated.

    Stress. Don't underestimate the role of stress in human health. When we are stressed, a large amount of the hormone adrenaline is released into the blood, causing our fingers to become cold. As a rule, after the stress passes, the temperature of the fingers returns to normal.

    Smoking. Nicotine has a vasoconstrictor effect, and the small vessels of the extremities are the first to respond. Additionally, smoking promotes the formation of plaque in the arteries, which is also a major factor in cold fingers.

    Diseases that cause cold fingers

    If your hands are cold without the above circumstances, then perhaps the reason lies in illness. Here are some diseases that most often cause cold fingers:

    Anemia. Cold fingers are a consequence of a lack of red blood cells or low hemoglobin levels in the blood. For this reason, the level of oxygen saturation decreases, which is why your hands get cold. Common causes of anemia include: lack of iron in the diet, poor digestion, blood loss (for example, during menstruation), and cancer.

    Hypothyroidism is a decrease in thyroid function. When the activity of the thyroid gland decreases, the concentration of hormones that actively participate in metabolism decreases. For this reason, most body functions slow down, which leads to cold fingers.

    Raynaud's syndrome is a narrowing of blood vessels in response to cold or stress. The narrowing is so strong that the limbs may take on a bluish tint. During an attack, a person feels cold, tingling and numbness in the hands.

    Autoimmune diseases. The cause of “icy” hands or feet can be systemic autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus and others.

    What to do if your feet are constantly cold, even when warm

    Greetings to all readers of my blog! Why do my feet get cold? Today I won’t talk about why this happens in winter. If your shoes are tight and wet, then this phenomenon is quite natural in the cold season. But there is another side to the issue. It is very unpleasant when such discomfort is constantly experienced, and not only in winter, but in the warm season and even in a warm room. Let's look at the reasons, perhaps later we will find a solution to this issue.

    Why do my feet always get cold?

    You've probably noticed that when it's cold, your extremities are the first to freeze. This is explained simply. The fact is that the palms and feet have a small number of muscle fibers that are capable of generating heat, and there is practically no fatty tissue on them that should retain this heat. The only source of heat is our blood.

    Under the influence of low temperatures, blood vessels narrow and the amount of blood flowing to the limbs decreases. If this is a healthy person, then to warm them it is enough to warm your hands in warm water or massage them, blood circulation in the limbs will be restored and they will warm up.

    If this method of warming the feet and hands does not help, this condition should not be ignored, as this may be the initial symptom of a serious pathology.

    Feet are cold - reasons

    The main reason for cold feet and freezing even in summer and in a warm room is poor circulation in the lower extremities (we won’t talk about the hands). This can occur with the following diseases:

  • Unstable blood pressure - with high pressure, the blood vessels are spasmed and it is more difficult for blood to reach the smallest capillaries; with low blood pressure, the blood pressure weakens and there is simply not enough blood pressure to reach the small capillaries of the foot.
  • Vegetative-vascular dystonia is characterized primarily by low blood pressure; the mechanism of blood supply at low pressure has just been explained.
  • Varicose veins - muscle tone of blood vessels is reduced, the structure of the walls of blood vessels is changed.
  • Hormonal disorders - often occur in older people if they have diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, or menopausal syndrome in women.
    • Anemia - a reduced amount of hemoglobin does not provide a normal amount of oxygen - the source of vital energy.
    • Obliterating endartharitis, which often occurs in heavy smokers, whose blood vessels spasm under the influence of nicotine.
    • Stroke – the passage of nerve impulses is disrupted, resulting in paresis and paralysis, loss of sensitivity is observed.
    • History of frostbite.
    • Violation of water balance, when with insufficient water intake into the body, the blood becomes thick and the blood vessels spasm as a protective reaction of the body.
    • Advanced stage of osteochondrosis.
    • What to do if your feet and hands are cold

      If the list of reasons includes your pathology, then the feeling of cold feet is one of the symptoms of the disease; only qualified medical help will help you here. But if your feet remain constantly cold and all your efforts to warm them remain ineffective, this is another reason to immediately seek help from a doctor.

      Simple folk remedies that can be done at home will help you get rid of the feeling of cold feet. What can be done?

    • Walk barefoot more often, if possible, on small stones, in the summer - on morning dew, and at home - on a massage mat.
    • Sit less and move more: by bike in summer, in winter by skiing or skating.
    • A contrast shower will help improve blood circulation throughout the body and strengthen blood vessels, including those in the legs. If it is not possible to do a contrast shower, then at least do contrast foot baths. I have already written in this article how to do it correctly.
    • Every morning, massage your feet with your hands, rubbing your feet first and then each toe. For massage you can use special massagers. And in the evening before going to bed, take pine foot baths or with sea salt.
    • And some more useful tips.

    • Never sit with your legs crossed – it is this position that causes poor circulation in the lower extremities for 10-15 minutes.
    • Get rid of bad habits, especially smoking, drink less strong coffee and tea. Spicy seasonings are not prohibited.
    • Do not wear tight and narrow shoes in the cold season, wear dry and warm socks.
    • Strengthen your immune system: in addition to strengthening it, by eating foods rich in vitamin C (rose hips, currants, citrus fruits, cranberries, etc.), the walls of blood vessels will also be strengthened, and ginger and red hot pepper will help “disperse” the blood.
    • Don't forget about water, drink at least 2 liters a day. Remember that with a lack of water, the blood becomes thick and the blood vessels spasm.
    • What to do if the feet of older people are cold?

      Older people's feet often get cold. This occurs as a result of a slowdown in their physiological processes, metabolic and circulatory disorders. With age, their muscle mass decreases and the subcutaneous fat layer decreases.

      Impaired heat exchange in their lower extremities occurs quite often; even in a warm home, their feet get cold, thereby worsening their quality of life.

      For older people, in addition to the treatment prescribed by a doctor, you can also use traditional methods of treatment. These are harmless methods that can be used at home in parallel with drug treatment.

      To improve blood flow in the lower extremities, do exercises that have absolutely no contraindications and are easy to do. Watch these exercises in this video.

      Cold feet - treatment with folk remedies

      I remember how my grandmother, when I was a very small child, constantly warmed my feet over boiled potatoes to warm my feet. She placed a small board on top of the pot with potatoes, and wrapped a blanket over her legs and the pot with potatoes. She sat like that for about 30 minutes or until the potatoes cooled down. After that she always put on warm woolen socks.

      Something similar can be done with mustard. I found this recipe on the Internet: as I understand it, add mustard to moderately hot water, so as not to burn your feet, and warm your feet for 20-30 minutes until the water cools down. After which the feet are wiped dry and warm woolen socks are put on.

      Do rubbing – massage for the feet. Do stroking, kneading, patting movements 7-10 times on each leg. After this, apply apple cider vinegar to your legs and feet, preferably 6% (you don’t need to dilute it), rub the vinegar into the skin with light movements. After 5-10 minutes, after the vinegar has been well absorbed, put warm socks on your feet and lie there for another 15 minutes.

      The most important property in this case is that it has a vasodilating effect and thins the blood, resolves blood clots and clots in the blood vessels.

      Similar rubbings can be done with warm vodka, and some even do rubbings “the old fashioned way” with triple cologne. Judging by the reviews, such manipulations help.

      Tincture with red pepper. For 200 grams of vodka, take 2 teaspoons of red pepper and place in a dark, warm place for 10 days to infuse. Strain the finished tincture and rub it into your feet before bed every day.

      Warming cream. Add red pepper extract, rosemary essential oil, camphor oil to baby cream or Vaseline. The cream should be applied to dry, clean feet, after it has absorbed a little, put on warm socks. Be careful with red pepper: it can cause an allergic reaction or cause irritation.

      Take hot foot baths. To 1 liter of hot water, add 10-15 drops of rosemary, clove or cinnamon essential oil and 2 tablespoons of milk to dissolve the essential oil. The duration of the procedure is 20 minutes, after which wipe your feet dry and put on warm socks.

      To improve the general condition and restore blood circulation in general, it is recommended to carry out preventive courses every 3 months by drinking a honey-vegetable mixture. To prepare it, take:

    • a glass of carrot, beet, horseradish juice;
    • juice of one lemon;
    • 1 glass of honey.
    • Mix everything, take 2 tablespoons on an empty stomach before meals every day. Store the mixture in the refrigerator.

      Why do my feet and hands always get cold?

      During the cold season, many people complain that their hands and feet are constantly freezing. The cold does not leave the limbs not only on the street, but is also felt for a long time when returning to a warm room. Some people find it difficult to stay warm even under the covers in the evening.

      The first step is to find out why the cold torments our limbs so much - whether this happens all the time or only in certain situations. It is considered normal and natural that extremities (especially fingers and toes) freeze faster than other parts of the body. The feet and palms have more connective tendon tissue and less muscle tissue, in which blood circulation is more intense. Also in these places there are large areas of skin that give off heat, and there is almost no fatty tissue that would retain this heat. The palms and feet are far from the body's heat sources, they are less supplied with blood, and their thin blood vessels and capillaries in the cold narrow even more and allow even less blood to pass through, which would bring warmth.

      By the way, blood vessels can narrow not only from cold, but also from fatigue or stress, and atherosclerotic damage to blood vessels, which greatly reduces the diameter of blood vessels, also has an effect.

      Thin people freeze more often than those who are warmed by their fat. The limbs also cool down quickly in those whose blood pressure is lower than average - in this case, it is more difficult for the heart to provide blood (and thereby heat) to parts of the body further away from it. People with this problem should strive to improve vascular tone. For this purpose, preparations made from ginseng or eleutherococcus roots are recommended. The cold is especially difficult for those people who have impaired peripheral circulation (for example, with atherosclerosis or damage to the nervous system).

      Freezing limbs warn of a disease lurking in the body. Feet and hands can get cold for many reasons. Some people struggle with this disease all their lives, while others’ limbs begin to freeze due to certain diseases. Until the true cause of the circulatory disorder is found, the situation can be improved by using contrast baths and eating the right foods.

      Possible diseases

      If your limbs are constantly cold, it takes a long time for them to warm up even in warm rooms, the most likely cause is circulatory disorders. They can be different:

    • Local. Blood circulation in the legs may be impaired due to varicose veins or other abnormalities. These ailments are usually accompanied by swelling of the feet, pain around the knee is felt when walking (the pain goes away at rest), dilated veins or venous stars are visible to the naked eye.
    • Weakness of the entire circulatory system. These may be disturbances in the functioning of the heart, vegetative dystonia, etc. In this case, a person quickly gets tired even from little physical activity, becomes out of breath when climbing stairs, and memory may deteriorate. Swelling of the feet may also appear, the skin becomes marbled, cool, and often damp.
    • Disruption of impulse transmission by thin nerve plexuses of the limbs. In this case, by pinching the skin of the thigh and the skin of the foot with the same force, you will feel less pain in the foot. This is typical in diabetes, when peripheral nerves are damaged.
    • Anemia due to lack of iron.
    • Raynaud's syndrome is the most common cause of frozen extremities. This is a disease in which blood circulation in the palms or feet is impaired due to cold or stress. This syndrome is quite common. When there is cold or stress, the toes or fingers do not receive enough blood due to vascular spasms - they begin to pulsate, become cold, pale, and later the limbs turn blue and may become numb. Soon the vessels dilate, the skin warms, turns red, the limbs sweat (and wet limbs again begin to freeze faster). Such an attack can last for several minutes or several hours. It is rare, but it happens that wounds and ulcers appear on constantly suffering limbs from Raynaud's syndrome. This occurs due to long-term circulatory disorders.

      This syndrome is considered a separate disease when no other causes of the disease are found, and it can also accompany other diseases: various arterial circulatory disorders, spinal diseases, vibration disease, lupus and others. Also, this syndrome sometimes appears after severe frostbite of the extremities.

      While the symptoms of Raynaud's syndrome are not severe, no special treatment is prescribed, only it is recommended to avoid cold and stress. You can also play sports - movement stimulates blood circulation and prevents constriction of blood vessels. A seizure can be calmed by soaking your hands or feet in a bowl of warm water. If your symptoms bother you, your doctor may prescribe medications to reduce spasms of blood vessels.

      When to see a doctor?

      If your limbs have been freezing for a long time and the situation is not getting worse, then this is not a disease and treatment is not necessary. But if freezing is accompanied by other symptoms, such as pain, sudden blueness, the appearance of wounds or diseases such as atherosclerosis of the leg arteries or blood pressure disorders, be sure to consult your family doctor. Only after curing the underlying disease will your legs and arms stop freezing.

      If you are suffering from the problem of freezing extremities, it is equally important to monitor your diet. Include foods high in minerals and vitamins in your diet that strengthen small blood vessels. Try to eat more oranges, kiwis, black currants and other fruits. They are rich in vitamin C, which regulates blood clotting and increases tissue elasticity.

      The walls of capillaries are also strengthened by nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and sprouted grains. Meat, eggs, whole grain bread, buckwheat, and beans provide the body with vitamin PP, which regulates nervous tension. Avoid fatty and smoked foods - when eating heavy food, blood flows to the head, and the limbs receive less of it. It is better to choose foods that are easier to digest, rich in iron, for example, lean meat with various vegetables - tomatoes, carrots, beets, spinach. There is also a lot of iron in egg yolks, apples, raisins, prunes, melons, and fatty fish.

      Sometimes after eating, the body temperature drops and as a result, again, the limbs freeze. This happens because the stomach works intensively after eating, so the body sends a lot of blood to improve digestion. To avoid this, eat small meals often.

      Tips to help you stay warm

    • Drink hot herbal teas more often.
    • Massage your hands and feet with essential oil that contains extracts of black pepper, ginger or cinnamon - substances in spices dilate blood vessels.
    • In the evening, rub wet feet with salt and only then dry with a towel. This procedure will prevent your feet from freezing. You can also make baths: dissolve 2 tablespoons of sea salt in warm water, add 10-15 drops of rosemary oil and two tablespoons of milk. Your limbs will quickly warm up in such water, and your skin will receive nutrients.
    • Blood circulation in your feet will improve and they will feel less cold if you add about 1/4 teaspoon of ground red pepper to your socks.
    • Lie on your back and “cycle” for a few minutes. After this, place the foot of your right foot on the knee of your left and rub it with the knuckles of your left hand. Massage for about 2 minutes. Repeat the same massage for the other leg.
    • If you have a sedentary job, try to move your feet and toes as often as possible.
    • Frozen extremities can be rubbed with an orange slice - it contains essential oils that quickly activate blood circulation.
    • It is recommended to try contrast baths. This procedure increases vascular tone, so it is excellent for those who suffer from freezing hands and feet. Half an hour before bedtime, prepare two baths: one with water at a temperature of 30-35 degrees, and the other with water at a temperature of 12-15 degrees. First, soak your feet in warm water for 5 minutes, then in cold water after 10 seconds. Repeat the procedure 3-5 times. When finished, dry your feet and put on warm wool socks.
      • Severely frozen limbs should not be exposed to hot water.
      • You should not warm yourself with alcohol - the negative effect outweighs the positive. The warmth that alcohol provides is deceptive - it simply dilates the blood vessels temporarily. This increases heat transfer, especially in a cold room, so you risk not only catching a cold quickly, but also freezing your limbs.
      • What to do if your feet are cold and sweaty

        A common problem that people face, especially at a young age, is that their feet sweat and get cold. Some people don't pay attention to this problem. But for many, it is unbearable to feel constantly wet and cold feet.

        The causes of sweating are varied. Starting from physiological sweating during physical activity or stress, ending with a violation of thermoregulation in diseases of the thyroid gland. But if your feet are cold and sweaty at the same time, then the cause is most likely vegetative-vascular dystonia.

        Most often teenagers and middle-aged people suffer. The condition affects self-esteem and requires a quick solution. If you understand the nervous regulation of sweating, it will become clear why your feet are cold and your skin sweats.

        Vegetative-vascular dystonia begins in adolescents during puberty and continues until the age of 35-40. The presence of pathology is a disruption of the interaction between the sympathetic and parasympathetic parts of the nervous system.

        The first is responsible for the body's reactions under stress. The main hormones are catecholamines, in particular norepinephrine. It is produced by the adrenal glands in response to a nerve stimulus. Clinically, a person feels an increase in heart rate, constriction of blood vessels in the periphery, increased activity of the sweat glands, dry mouth, and dizziness.

        The opposite system is the parasympathetic system. She is responsible for a calm state. The main transmitter is acetylcholine. Its activity is manifested by bradycardia, hypotension, increased secretion of the digestive glands, bronchial glands, and sweat glands.

        With a neurocirculatory disorder, the balance in the regulatory activity of the nervous system is disturbed. Blood pressure “jumps”, the work of the heart is accompanied by disruptions and pain. 24-hour hyperhidrosis is observed because two opposing parts of the nervous system converge on one thing - increased sweating. Added to this is vascular spasm in the periphery - the limbs. Patients' hands and feet are cold and sweaty.

        You should think about vegetative-vascular dystonia if:

      • The patient is hypotensive, blood pressure is within 100/60 mm Hg. Art. or hypertensive with a blood pressure of 130/90 mm Hg. Art.
      • Age between 12–30 years.
      • Sympathoadrenal crises are a concern.
      • Increased sweat production in the extremities, armpits, and back.
      • The physique is asthenic, height is above average.
      • Cold sweat on the feet appears in a physiological state:

      • stress;
      • pregnancy;
      • menopause in women, andropause in men;
      • exercise stress.
      • The feet become sweaty and cold with the following pathological disorders:

      • Hyperthyroidism is an increased synthesis of hormones by the thyroid gland.
      • Diabetes. Although, if you believe the scientific literature, hyperhidrosis in pathology is observed on the upper half of the body. But cold feet are characteristic of macroangiopathy and neuropathy in diabetes mellitus.
      • Varicose veins of the lower extremities.
      • Arterial obstruction in the legs.
      • Vasculitis, systemic pathology of connective tissue.
      • With each disease, in addition to sweaty feet, there are pathognomonic symptoms of each pathology. Age also suggests illness. Patients are usually over 45 years of age.

        If your feet sweat and get cold, your doctor will tell you in detail what to do. In the case of vegetative-vascular dystonia, help is divided into two types:

      • Symptomatic therapy, that is, getting rid of sweating.
      • Etiotropic therapy - normalization of the regulation of the autonomic nervous system.
      • Symptoms are eliminated with the help of antiperspirant deodorants, creams, gels, and powders.

        Antiperspirant deodorants for feet help reduce sweating and eliminate unpleasant odors. Effective and popular with aluminum chloride hydrate in its composition.

        When the product is applied, a protein-aluminum block is formed at the top of the excretory duct of the sweat gland. It prevents sweat from coming to the surface. The fluid is absorbed and excreted by the kidneys. The product should be used once every few days. The frequency depends on the degree of hyperhidrosis.

        Creams, gels, ointments, powders - products are smeared, applied to the skin, poured into shoes. The cosmetology market is filled with various products. Most Popular:

      • Formagel is a gel containing formaldehyde. Relieves sweaty feet for several weeks.
      • Teymur's paste is an effective, but inconvenient to use remedy.
      • Borozin is a powder. Pours into shoes. Reduces sweating, eliminates fungus that produces an unpleasant odor.
      • Tablet products based on belladonna (belladonna) and ergot extract. The tablets have an anticholinergic effect. Examples:

        Traditional medicine offers help with the problem of sweaty feet:

        1. Iontophoresis courses.
        2. Botox injections into the skin of the legs. Paralysis of the nerves prevents the glands from producing secretions.
        3. Alternative medicine

          Traditional medicine has many recipes:

        4. Bath with oak bark and chamomile. Pour 2 tablespoons of spirit bark and chamomile flowers into a bowl of hot water. Dip your feet into the infusion. As the water cools, add hot water.
        5. Foot massage with essential oils of lavender and tea tree. Take base oil - 20 ml grape seeds and add 5 drops of essential oils to it. The massage has antiseptic, sweat-reducing, warming, and microcirculation-restoring properties.
        6. In combination or as a separate remedy, the feet are lubricated with lemon juice. Acid destroys bacteria and fungi, narrows the ducts of the sweat glands.
        7. In some cases, it may be helpful to reconsider your footwear. Evaluate how comfortable and natural it is. Synthetic and tight shoes will make anyone's feet cold and sweaty.

          General strengthening of the autonomic system is carried out with the help of yoga, breathing exercises, and a diet excluding fried, fatty and salty foods. The use of adaptogens in the first half of the day and sedatives at night works well.

          In case of hyperhidrosis against the background of endocrine or other pathology of internal organs, it is first recommended to treat the underlying disease. To do this, you should consult a doctor. First, see a dermatologist, and he will help you decide on a specialized doctor.

          The most frustrating thing for people with foot hyperhidrosis is the unpleasant smell of their feet. It is provoked by bacteria and fungi, which actively divide in a humid environment. Careful hygiene and the use of antiseptics and antifungal drugs solves the problem in 50% of cases.

          Why your feet are cold: reasons for constantly cold extremities

          Surely, many people have encountered a situation where their limbs suffer from cold. Of course, this is a natural reaction of the body to hypothermia, for example, after a walk in the cold. But often feet or hands can freeze not only in winter, but also in summer, and even in a warm room. This problem is more common among older people, but relatively young people and even children can experience it. This phenomenon is more common in men than in women. Why does this happen, and is this symptom not a sign of some serious disease?

          Legs are a very important part of the body. And it’s not just that we need them to move. There are many nerve endings concentrated in a person’s feet. There are many small vessels and capillaries in them.

          On the other hand, it is worth keeping in mind that the lower part of the legs - feet and toes - is at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the body. After all, the distance from the heart to the legs is much greater than the distance from the heart to other parts of the body. Therefore, blood circulation in the lower legs is not as intense as in the upper torso. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that the legs most often receive less blood, and therefore heat, than the rest of the body. It should also be remembered that the legs have relatively little fatty tissue to retain heat.

          However, the feeling of cold feet in a warm room should not be experienced by a person whose health does not have weak points. Therefore, feet freezing in the warmth can serve as a kind of diagnostic sign, indicating that not everything is in order in the body.

          So, what reasons can cause cold feet? This:

        8. vegetative-vascular dystonia;
        9. osteochondrosis;
        10. high or low blood pressure;
        11. diabetes;
        12. anemia;
        13. heart failure;
        14. dehydration;
        15. vitamin deficiencies;
        16. previously suffered frostbite of the legs;
        17. immunity disorders;
        18. endocrine disorders, in particular hypothyroidism;
        19. allergic reactions;
        20. smoking;
        21. vein diseases - phlebitis and thrombophlebitis;
        22. Raynaud's syndrome;
        23. atopic dermatitis;
        24. underweight;
        25. chronic stress;
        26. cerebrovascular accidents;
        27. elderly age.
        28. High sensitivity of the feet to cold can also be caused by such circumstances as improper sitting at the table (in which the legs always become numb), sitting on a chair in a position where one leg is crossed over the other, constantly wearing uncomfortable shoes or synthetic socks or tights in which feet are constantly cold or sweaty.

          The feeling of coldness in the extremities is in most cases associated with spasm of peripheral vessels. Quite often, a similar condition occurs with vegetative-vascular dystonia. This syndrome most often manifests itself in young and middle age - from 20 to 40 years. With it, there is an inconsistency in the contractions of blood vessels in the limbs and the heart. Thus, blood may have problems entering the capillaries of the legs and feet.

          A similar effect is observed with high blood pressure, when vasospasm occurs. On the other hand, low blood pressure can also cause your feet to feel cold. This is due to the low intensity of blood circulation in this condition. Therefore, if your feet are cold, the reasons for this phenomenon may also lie in unstable blood pressure. Therefore, such a condition requires control of this important physiological parameter.

          Previous frostbite on the legs can also affect the sensitivity of the legs to cold. Despite the fact that the limbs seem to recover after such an event, in fact this recovery does not occur completely, and its consequences can be felt until the end of life. Therefore, if you cannot understand why your feet are cold, then perhaps the problem lies in the frostbite of your feet that you suffered a long time ago, maybe even in childhood.

          Diabetes mellitus significantly affects the condition of the blood and blood vessels. The vessels become more fragile, and blood clots can form in them. With this disease, the properties of blood and blood supply to tissues deteriorate and, as a result, the legs will lack warmth. However, cold feet are far from the most dangerous consequence of diabetes. In many cases, diabetics can develop a dangerous condition called “diabetic foot,” which in turn can lead to tissue gangrene.

          Anemia or lack of hemoglobin leads to tissues receiving insufficient oxygen. As a result, metabolic processes in them are disrupted, which, in particular, results in the effect of chilly feet.

          Smoking also leads to disturbances in the walls of small capillaries. They become more brittle and pass blood with great difficulty. Often, heavy smokers are susceptible to a disease such as obliterating endarteritis, which leads to inflammation of blood vessels and the formation of blood clots in them.

          Sometimes the feeling of coldness in the feet is combined with increased sweating. Most often, this situation indicates the presence of diabetes mellitus, endocrine disorders (insufficient functionality of the thyroid gland).

          Most older people also face this problem. This is due to the fact that in old age the blood supply to the tissues deteriorates.

          Are there signs that can help you determine if blood flow is efficient enough in your legs? Such signs are well known. The following symptoms indicate that the vessels of the lower extremities are not doing their job:

          • swelling,
          • protruding, engorged veins,
          • rapid fatigue of the legs when walking,
          • frequent cramps of the feet and legs,
          • frequent itching in the legs,
          • frequent cases of numbness in the legs,
          • sagging skin,
          • bluish skin color.
          • How to get rid of this condition?

            Well-known folk wisdom recommends keeping your head cold and your feet warm. And this is correct advice, but only if your feet are already cold in the warmth, it may not help.

            If the symptom is caused by some disease, then the main attention should be paid to its treatment. And until it is cured, of course, it is necessary to somehow warm the feet. You can also carry out activities to harden the body, contrast showers, physical therapy, and massage. A noticeable effect is provided by folk remedies - rubbing with vinegar and alcohol, baths (warm and contrasting), applying pepper plasters to the feet.

            Ethyl alcohol has a good effect in warming the feet. Its use can be combined with the use of warming baths with warm water. For example, if after such a bath you wear thin socks soaked in alcohol, and warm woolen socks on top of them, your feet will quickly warm up. Warm baths with essential oils of coniferous trees and eucalyptus are also effective for warming the feet. The water temperature during this procedure should be 39-40? C. The duration of the procedure is 10 minutes.

            It should also be remembered that factors contributing to freezing of the feet are poor nutrition, excess weight and physical inactivity. Therefore, you need to take measures to change your lifestyle to the best of your ability. It makes sense for young people to take up sports - cycling, running, swimming. It is necessary to exclude alcohol and coffee from your diet and drink enough liquid.

            There are special exercises for the legs that help eliminate swelling and increase the tone of blood vessels and skin. For example, you can simply shake your legs while lying on your back with your knees bent. Or, lying on your stomach, bend your knees freely, hitting your buttocks with your feet.

            Factors such as comfortable shoes, proper sitting at the table, etc. are also of great importance. In winter, shoes should not only be warm (this means both thick soles and high-quality shoe material), but also, which is often ignored, not tight, since tight shoes retain heat worse and compress blood vessels. Women are not recommended to wear high heels for more than 4 hours a day. You should also pay attention to the selection of insoles - they should be warm enough and at the same time allow air to pass freely.

            What to do if your hands and feet are cold?

            If your hands and feet are cold, the reason is not always a high sensitivity to cold. Moreover, resistance to low temperatures, as the main cause of the problem, is not very common. So why do your limbs get cold, and how to get rid of it?

            Coldness in the hands and feet can occur to varying degrees, depending on the cause. Some people feel discomfort only outside in cold weather. Others are constantly freezing, even at home, in the warmth. When the extremities of the hands and feet become chronically cold, the reasons may be hidden in quite serious diseases. Therefore, you should never ignore eternally cold hands and feet! You definitely need to find the cause of this condition!

            What do cold extremities mean? Main reasons

            Among the main reasons why hands and feet always freeze:

          • Phlebeurysm;
          • Anemia;
          • Atherosclerosis;
          • Obliterating endarteritis;
          • Hypertension;
          • Hypotension;
          • Diseases of the endocrine system;
          • Raynaud's disease, etc.
          • Cold hands and feet occur after a stroke, with VSD, dermatitis, allergies, age-related changes (this reason is typical for both women and men after 50 years, when the human immune system weakens). Sometimes the cause of chilliness is worms or fungal infections. Cold hands and feet are also sometimes caused by being overweight or severely dehydrated. The reason that the limbs are cold may also be inflammation of the nerves.

            Depending on the cause, hands and feet get cold at certain times - in the evening, in the morning, during sleep. Keep an eye on this if cold hands and/or feet bother you always or often. This will help the doctor identify the cause and prescribe the most effective treatment.

            Attention! If you start to feel cold, do not try to find the cause and diagnose it yourself. Cold hands and feet can be a sign of a medical condition that should be treated as quickly as possible.

            What to do if your hands and feet are cold?

            If your fingers and toes begin to get very cold, if your hands and feet become freezing even indoors, use emergency methods. They will allow you to quickly warm up frozen limbs, whatever the reason.

            Express help to stay warm

            If your feet and hands are cold, whatever the reason, it will help to warm up:

          • Self-massage. Thoroughly stretch your feet, legs, palms, and tips of your toes and hands. For the best effect, use essential oils (a few drops of ginger, black pepper, cinnamon oil mixed with massage cream or base oil). This is also an excellent prevention if your hands and feet often get cold;
          • Alcohol compress. To avoid freezing, wear cotton socks/gloves soaked in vodka and woolen ones on top;
          • “Water bottle” of pepper or mustard. Pour ground red pepper or dry mustard into gloves or socks and put them on icy limbs - this will quickly warm them up;
          • A water heating pad if your extremities get cold at night. If your hands and feet get cold at night, you start to freeze and cannot sleep, use a regular heating pad. It can be replaced with an electric one, or even plastic bottles filled with hot water.

            How to treat hands and feet that are constantly cold?

            If you do not want to freeze, regardless of the reason, you must:

          • Strengthening blood vessels. Alternating cold and hot baths for hands and feet will strengthen blood vessels and you will not freeze. Sea salt added to the bath will enhance the effect. Baths and saunas will also be excellent helpers in the fight against cold hands and feet;
          • Improved blood circulation. Regular exercise helps increase blood flow and make you feel less cold. It is enough to move actively for 10-15 minutes. If you don’t like doing exercises, turn on the music and dance, go for a walk, swim in the pool;
          • Healthy foods. Among the common reasons for cold extremities is a lack of iron. If you have cold hands and feet, eat iron-containing foods every day. Products that help strengthen the capillary walls are also needed. If the cause of chilly extremities is hormonal changes in women, it is advisable to increase the amount of foods containing phytohormones in the diet.
          • To stay warm, the menu should include:

          • Meat (the best option is poultry);
          • Lean fish;
          • Leafy vegetables;
          • Dried fruits (prunes, dried apricots, raisins);
          • Legumes;
          • Nuts;
          • Seeds.
          • A balanced diet allows you to accelerate the strengthening of blood vessels and quickly eliminate the causes of cold extremities.

            What does traditional medicine advise?

            To get rid of chilliness in the hands and feet (regardless of the cause), hot pine baths are used in folk medicine. Positive results are obtained by taking tincture of horse chestnut flowers, as well as tinctures of ginseng and eleutherococcus, which strengthen the immune system.

            Natural flower honey is also very useful, which should be dissolved in the mouth until completely dissolved, 1 teaspoon 4-5 times a day.

            To avoid freezing, you should take a fatty hot meal (for example, chicken broth) before going outside.

            To warm icy hands and feet, use vodka tincture of red hot pepper, which is rubbed on the feet, legs, and palms.

            What is absolutely forbidden to do?

            Regardless of the reason why your hands and feet are cold, when trying to warm up, do not put them in hot water. Also, do not drink alcoholic beverages - their vasodilatory effects are short-lived. After some time, the blood vessels will narrow even more, and the arms and legs will begin to freeze more. You can’t “warm up” with alcohol even in the cold in winter - you won’t stop freezing, and alcohol often causes frostbite.

            Even if you know the reason why your limbs are chilly, in any case, at least for a while, give up coffee, strong tea and other products containing caffeine and tannin. Tobacco is also a cause of vasospasm, so stop or minimize smoking.

            Staying in one position for a long time impairs blood circulation, and the limbs begin to freeze. When working sedentarily, be sure to take physical breaks. Even a few swings of your arms and legs and simple squats will help “get your blood flowing” and make you feel less cold.

            Important! While sitting, do not cross your legs - after just 10 minutes of sitting in this position, blood circulation is disrupted and you will freeze.

            When is a medical examination necessary?

            If you start to feel cold often, and other symptoms begin to accompany cold hands and feet, do not delay visiting a doctor.

            Reasons to seek immediate medical attention:

          • High pressure;
          • Edema;
          • Convulsions;
          • Memory impairment;
          • Feeling of aching bones;
          • Heartache;
          • Noise in ears;
          • Headache;
          • Numbness, tingling in the limbs, etc.

          If your feet are cold and your body is burning, if your limbs are not only cold, but also numb, if your heart hurts, if you feel sick or have any other signs of illness, get examined as quickly as possible.

          Which doctor should I contact?

          If your hands and feet are cold, the disease that is causing the cold hands and feet must be treated. But since cold hands and feet can be caused by various diseases, you should first contact your family doctor (general practitioner). He will prescribe the necessary studies to identify the cause. In addition to a general blood test, it is also necessary to do a cholesterol test and an ultrasound of the blood vessels. Also, if you start to freeze, additional examinations may be required (ultrasound of the thyroid gland, tests to detect fungal infections, worms, etc.)

          “When I started to feel very cold, I underwent a full examination, but no health-related reasons were found. And the cold in my legs bothered me even in my sleep. Then I started strengthening the blood vessels, and after a few months everything went away.”

          “It didn’t bother me much that my right leg was freezing, especially since I didn’t feel the cold all the time. I didn’t know what diseases this happened with, and I didn’t go to the doctors. As a result, she ended up in the hospital with an aneurysm. Even minor symptoms cannot be ignored!”

          “My hands and feet get cold all the time when I’m nervous. When you feel a chill, this is the first sign of nervous tension. I save myself with sedatives. This helps relieve anxiety, which is also the cause of my other reactions, such as cold sweat, nausea, trembling.”
