SANATORIUM TREATMENT FOR VEIN DISEASES
My patients rarely ask questions about spa treatment of venous diseases, but this therapeutic factor should not be ignored. This type of treatment allows us to improve the functioning of our veins while maintaining a prolonged effect for a long time. I became interested in the topic of sanatorium-resort treatment after a trip to the south, when I experienced for myself the beneficial effect of relaxation on the veins. Of the healing factors operating at resorts, the most important, in my opinion, is a positive emotional background. This component arises on its own and then increases many times over and is potentiated by the action of various therapeutic factors. Without emotions aimed at recovery, a rare disease allows itself to be defeated. New acquaintances and new communication make it possible to push the disease into the background and carry out systematic work to eradicate it.
At resorts, the climate is important, especially if it differs from your native one. In the treatment of venous insufficiency, Mediterranean, dry subtropical, subtropical foothill, monsoon, moderate and sharp continental climates are suitable for you. Of course, clean air, humid sea wind, pine forest phytoncides, temperature conditions and other climate factors will have their own unique effect.
At resorts, rest time is conditional, since rest is a change in activity. The benefits of hiking, forays into the mountains, various types of dosed walking, and therapeutic exercises can hardly be overestimated for our veins. The work of the muscle pump strengthens and relieves the veins, which are so tired in everyday life from prolonged static overloads. In water, the venous system experiences the greatest rest, because the human body is located horizontally only in sleep and in water, and therefore with minimal differences in venous pressure in its various parts. Wave massage does not allow blood to stagnate in dilated veins. Not only sea water, but also various types of mineral waters have a healing effect on humans. Therapeutic muds are also used in complex treatment. Sunbathing should be treated with caution; excessive insolation is harmful to the veins and leads to a decrease in venous tone. However, in general you can sunbathe in the sun, giving preference to indirect rays. Therapeutic procedures at resorts, of course, also include what can be done at your place of residence: massage, physiotherapy, electrophoresis, medication, elastic bandaging.
The effect of mineral waters in venous insufficiency is achieved by external use in the form of general and local baths, swimming in pools. For venous diseases, the following waters are used: hydrogen sulfide, radon, carbon dioxide and nitrogen-siliceous.
Hydrogen sulfide waters affect the body due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide in them. When used, skin hyperemia develops, leading to hemodynamic changes. Blood flow to the dermis increases, capillary permeability increases. Free hydrogen sulfide acquires increased chemical activity in tissues, is included in metabolism, and inflammation phenomena are weakened. Upon absorption, hormonal changes occur, the function of the sympathoadrenal system is activated, and immunological reactivity increases. Under the influence of the reduced oxygen content in the bath, the cardiovascular system is forced to work more intensely.
Resorts with hydrogen sulfide waters:
Angara - outskirts of Irkutsk
Goryachiy Klyuch (Psekups) - 65 km from Krasnodar
Yeysk - Krasnodar region
Keys - Perm region
Sergievsky Mineral Waters – Samara Region
Sochi, Matsesta - Krasnodar region
Tamisk – North Ossetia
Ust-Kachka Perm region
Khilovo - Pskov region
When using radon baths, radiolysis processes occur in the skin, which leads to an increased content of biologically active substances that affect nerve receptors. Towards the end of the bath, the concentration of radon in the skin increases. Radon baths lead to a reduction in inflammation, activation of the sympatho-adrenal system, and have a sedative and analgesic effect. The tone of atonic and dilated veins increases, blood circulation and venous outflow, and tissue metabolism improve. The use of radon baths is especially good in the first months after suffering thrombophlebitis.
Resorts with radon waters:
Belokurikha - Altai Territory
Kisegach - Chelyabinsk region
Molokovka – Chita region
Uvildy - Chelyabinsk region
Ust-Kut — Irkutsk region
Yamkun - Chita region
Carbon dioxide baths cause skin hyperemia, reduce peripheral vascular resistance, reduce heart rate, and increase the excitability of the central nervous system.
Resorts with carbonated waters
Darasun - Chita region
Essentuki - Stavropol Territory
Zheleznovodsk - Stavropol Territory
Zaramag – North Ossetia
Kislovodsk - Stavropol Territory
Kozhanovo - Krasnoyarsk region
Pyatigorsk - Stavropol Territory
Shivanda - Chita region
Shmakovka - Primorsky Krai
Yamarovka - Chita region
Resorts with nitrogen-siliceous waters
Annensky Mineral Waters – Khabarovsk Territory
Karmadon - North Ossetia
Kuldur - Khabarovsk Territory
Talaya - Magadan region
Mud therapy (peloid therapy) is a treatment method using peloids (therapeutic mud of various origins); used in resorts and in non-resort conditions. The effect of therapeutic mud on the body is determined primarily by thermal, chemical and mechanical factors, leading to the activation of the nervous and humoral systems. Leads at the local level to processes similar to those when using mineral baths. Sapropel and sulfide-silt muds are used to treat venous diseases. Paraffin and ozokerite, unlike mud, do not have a chemical effect, but only a thermal one.
Indications and contraindications for spa treatment
For varicose veins with any type of venous insufficiency, there are indications for staying at a resort with balneo-hydrotherapy and in local cardiological sanatoriums. For patients with varicose veins and postthrombophlebitic disease with compensatory dilated veins, referral to resorts with hydrogen sulfide, radon, nitrogen, and siliceous waters is justified. After thrombophlebitis and carbonated waters. For trophic skin disorders, hydrogen sulfide baths are especially good. For thrombosis after childbirth or surgery, balneotherapy is indicated after 6-8 months.
The only exceptions for sanatorium treatment are advanced venous ulcers with active purulent inflammation and pain, and deep vein thrombosis with a septic condition for 2 years. This is also true for migrating thrombophlebitis. In case of trophic ulcers, stay at resorts with sodium chloride waters should be avoided.
After acute thrombophlebitis of the superficial veins, you can be sent to resorts no earlier than 2 months, after thrombophlebitis of the deep veins no earlier than 4 months. Preference should be given to local cardiological sanatoriums. After operations on the main veins and chronic venous insufficiency after deep vein thrombosis, patients should be referred to local cardiological sanatoriums after hospitalization, if there are no postoperative complications. Thromboembolic disease is a contraindication to treatment at resorts and local cardiac sanatoriums.
Local cardiological sanatoriums:
Sanatorium "Zvenigorod" of the Moscow Medical and Sanatorium Association of the Moscow City Hall
