Causes of pain in muscles and joints: what is it and why does it hurt?

Sometimes a person is accompanied by aches in the joints and muscles of the whole body. Until recently, doctors found it difficult to diagnose and find the cause of this phenomenon. Just a few years ago, a new direction appeared in medicine, studying pain in muscles and joints.

In this regard, a new term has appeared in medical terminology - myoarthralgia. It characterizes the simultaneous occurrence of pain in both bones and muscles. However, not all diseases fall under the description of this term.

Rheumatoid arthritis and polymyalgia rheumatica have similar symptoms. With such diseases, pain spreads throughout the body, which disrupts the functioning of the musculoskeletal system.

Why do joints and muscles hurt?

Despite the rapid development of medicine and diagnostic methods, the exact causes of pain in the joints and muscles of the whole body at the same time have not yet been fully established.

Microbiologists consider one of the versions of their appearance to be an infectious disease that also provokes rheumatoid arthritis. Similar diseases, such as polyarthritis and arthritis, are a consequence of the action of autoimmune factors. The cause may be various viruses and bacterial pathogens, as well as previous injuries.

Painful sensations in muscles and bones can be caused by the following reasons:

  • diseases caused by viruses. For example, when falling ill with the flu or acute respiratory viral infection, a person often complains of aches throughout the body. The thing is that when body temperature rises, blood begins to circulate faster through the circulatory system. This leads to the virus entering muscle tissue and joints. The most dangerous are considered to be herpes, rubella or Epstein Barr viruses;
  • autoimmune disorders, which include any type of rheumatism, arthritis and lupus;
  • subcutaneous tumors on the joints;
  • diseases leading to metabolic disorders in bones, such as osteoarthritis, gout and other diseases.
  • The most likely cause of joint and muscle pain is the Epstein Barr virus. According to medical observations, about 90% of cases of rheumatoid polyarthritis are caused by this virus.

    When this virus enters the human body, the first to be affected is the immune system. Its activity is significantly reduced and the result is a strong reaction of the body to various irritants, which lead to the development of diseases.

    The causes of pain may lie in the DNA of cells. It may contain microbacteria and viruses, which lead to discomfort and pain throughout the body.

    Pain in the joints and muscles of the limbs

    As you know, there are more than 600 types of muscles in the human body. Their main function is to ensure motor activity of the body. One muscle consists of many muscle fibers. Even a slight deviation from normal muscle function can cause pain.

    Despite the fact that many causes of joint pain have not been established, doctors have identified some of them that lead to similar phenomena. These reasons include:

  • change in muscle function aimed at its contraction;
  • insufficient nutrition of muscle tissue, hypertonicity, leading to muscle hardening;
  • Such violations can be caused by the following factors:

    1. Processes of spinal deformation that are pathological in nature.
    2. Changes in posture, staying in one position for a long time, uncomfortable shoes and high heels.
    3. The development of osteochondrosis, which leads to spinal deformation and increased stress on muscles and joints.
    4. If you experience muscle or joint pain that is persistent, you should consult a doctor. Based on the patient’s complaints and appropriate diagnostics, the doctor will make a diagnosis and find out why the pain appeared.

      Once the diagnosis is made and the causes of the disease are identified, the doctor prescribes treatment. In most cases, treatment with chondroprotectors will be prescribed.

      Chondroprotectors are drugs based on natural ingredients, the action of which is aimed at restoring the functions and structure of the joint. In order to completely restore the structure of the damaged joint, long-term use of chondroprotectors is necessary. This is due to the fact that the active substances must accumulate in the body.

      Doctors advise paying attention to “Collagen Ultra” as one of the drug options. This drug, collagen for joints, is available in three dosage forms: ointment, gel and dietary supplement.

      The main effect of the medicine is aimed at relieving inflammation and improving the function of the musculoskeletal system. When taking “Collagen Ultra” in the form of tablets, the complex of vitamins included in their composition helps restore metabolic processes in the body.

      To reduce pain, it is recommended to use non-steroidal ointments and creams in combination with chondroprotectors. They do not eliminate the causes of the disease, but they reduce pain for a while.

      The main active ingredient in such ointments is diclofenac sodium.

      Preventive measures to prevent the disease

      Many problems with joints can be avoided if you promptly pay attention to the changes that occur in the joints. Preservation of joint mobility and health of the human body as a whole depends entirely on a person’s lifestyle and habits. Often the causes of diseases lie in the following factors:

    5. lack of vitamins and nutrients. Most people eat food without thinking about how healthy it is and how it satisfies the need for vitamins and minerals. It is necessary to review the diet and include in it as many vitamin-rich foods as possible;
    6. Frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages and smoking leads to disruption of the functioning of joints and the entire musculoskeletal system. Also, excessive coffee consumption leads to disruption of the structure of joint tissues;
    7. physical exercise. An active lifestyle will help maintain joint mobility for many years. If you can’t go to the gym, it’s enough to do small warm-ups for your joints.
    8. The leg muscles are divided into the muscles of the hip region and the muscles of the lower limb. Movements in the hip joint are produced by a number of muscles, among them are:

      internal (iliopsoas, twin, piriformis, internal obturator);

      external (gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and minimus, obturator externus, quadratus and tensor fascia lata).

      The muscles of the lower limb include the muscles of the thigh, leg and foot. The leg muscles provide movement in the knee, ankle, foot and toe joints.

      Causes of pain in leg muscles

      There are several reasons that cause pain in the leg muscles. These are diseases of the spine, joints, blood vessels of the legs, or muscles. Most often, pain in the leg muscles is associated with vascular diseases. This occurs due to a violation of the outflow of venous blood and a resulting increase in pressure in the vessels. The resulting venous congestion causes irritation of nerve endings and the development of pain. Most often, such pain is “dull” in nature, and heaviness is felt in the legs. Thus, varicose veins gradually develop.

      The next group of diseases that provoke the appearance of pain in the legs are diseases of the spine. Existing disorders in the functioning of the spine, for example, in the intervertebral discs , lead to the appearance of so-called radiating pain, radiating to the legs. The spine itself may not hurt. This type of pain can include sciatica (inflammation of the sciatic nerve). With this disease, pain from the spine along the sciatic nerve is transmitted to the legs.

      The most severe pain occurs when the leg muscles become inflamed. Myositis is a rather serious disease that must be treated under constant medical supervision. Myositis is inflammation of skeletal muscles. It can occur as a complication of various diseases, such as influenza. A common cause of myositis is muscle overstrain due to unusual physical activity or injury to the leg muscles.

      With myositis, aching pain appears in the leg muscles, which intensifies with movement. Often, dense nodules or cords are felt in the muscles. With an open injury, as a result of infection, purulent myositis can develop, which is manifested by: increased body temperature, chills, gradual increase in pain, swelling, thickening and tension of the muscle, redness of the skin over it.

      A peculiar form is parasitic myositis, which occurs when muscles are damaged by parasites (Trichinella, cysticerci) and is characterized by fever, pain in the muscles of the limbs, chest, tongue, and masticatory muscles.

      Fibromyalgia can occur in a variety of locations, but it most often affects the back of the head, lower back (lumbago), neck, shoulder area, chest, and thigh areas near the knee joint. This pain occurs mainly in women. It can be caused or intensified by the following factors :

      physical or mental overload;

      injury, dampness or cold;

      Leg cramps are involuntary contractions of individual muscles or muscle groups. They can be caused by prolonged physical stress, overwork, and most often occur in the calf muscle. To stop them, it is recommended to relax your muscles . To do this, just lie down or sit down, thereby changing the position of the limb, and strongly rub the cramped muscle with your hands. Then apply a towel soaked in cold water or stand with your bare feet on the cold ground.

      Prevention and treatment

      In order to prevent pain in the leg muscles, you must follow some rules. For example, in case of vascular problems , it is necessary to limit fatty, cholesterol-rich foods in the diet, lose excess weight, and regularly perform a special set of exercises to prevent the development of varicose veins . Try to avoid prolonged standing or sitting. When working sedentary or standing, it is necessary to take breaks and change positions regularly.

      Causes of muscle pain throughout the body

      Our body does not always work perfectly. Why be surprised if he is constantly attacked by viruses, microbes, if the person himself does not try to take care of him? It is not so easy to name the causes of muscle pain throughout the body.

      Anyone who has felt muscle pain throughout the body at least once in their life will henceforth treat their body very carefully - sometimes it can be simply unbearable, but it is not always clear what to do about it. So, you must know very specific and rather limited reasons why it can begin.

      You should start by raising your body temperature. Many are accustomed to the fact that this is necessarily accompanied by fever, chills or increased sweating, but this is not the entire list of consequences of increased body temperature, because one of the main problems is muscle pain. Even now, reminiscing about how you might have caught a cold as a child, you can easily remember that a very strange sensation in the muscles throughout the body was always unpleasant.

      What’s worse, medical data confirms that it’s not just about periodic muscle pain, which has a completely understandable and removable cause, but it’s also about the chronic nature of such pain, and this affects more than 10,000,000 people around the world.

      Of course, constant pain requires special treatment and care. Chronic muscle pain requires qualified help, constant monitoring and the fastest possible help that will relieve the disease. In addition, the real cause of muscle pain can be identified by determining its nature. For example, it can be pain of varying intensity: from excruciating to tolerable or episodic.

      Usually, when the cause of chronic painful manifestations is identified and eliminated, the patient's condition improves significantly. The manifestations pass and the person returns to a normal, full life. But there are cases when a person “gets used to” this pain and his belief that pain will come leads to the appearance of a symptom at the psychosomatic level.

      Pain after workout

      In some cases, if we talk about the results of a good workout, this is also pain, but it can be quite pleasant - this time it shows that you really surprised your body and it has begun the process of supercompensation, and after that the muscles will become larger, which is used in bodybuilding.

      If you pay attention to the statistics of requests for professional medical help, then the fact that most people seek help after receiving very specific injuries, when muscle pain does not cause any surprise in a person, is striking. This can be either excessive load, or awkward movement, or prolonged overexertion, in which the muscles, sensing the importance of performing a particular task, begin to work to the limit.

      This is due to the fact that millions of years before the advent of normal civilizations, where a person is in relative safety, the whole fate was one of continuous survival, therefore the body had no choice - either to give all the best or die.

      Often the logical cause of muscle pain is microbes entering the body. Then muscle pain will be a completely logical consequence of the activation of the immune system, which gathers all the strength in the body in order to cope with the disease as quickly as possible.

      If the pain begins after a tick bite that has been infected with an infection, then the situation becomes especially dangerous, because in the absence of timely treatment, encephalitis becomes a fatal disease.

      There are a lot of terrible causes of muscle pain throughout the body, and one of them is blood diseases, which could be lymphoma or leukemia. In turn, this may be a consequence of another malignant tumor in the body and there will definitely be no reason to relax.

      Sometimes muscle discomfort is directly related to negative processes that begin in the joints. These pathogenic processes begin in the event of the onset of autoimmune diseases that can affect connective tissue. In this case, the pain varies from moderate to very severe and is extremely rarely mild and tolerable.

      Degenerative disorders

      If we are talking about degenerative disorders that are associated with arthritis, then muscle pain occurs at the beginning and end of the day, which is very characteristic of this particular cause of pain.

      There are muscle pains even without an increase in body temperature. On the contrary, sometimes muscle pain occurs when this temperature drops, which is very typical for food poisoning.

      Patients in this case often complain of headaches, aching muscles throughout the body, and often disturbed sleep. One of the most difficult causes, which is difficult to correct, is the formation of persistent muscle spasms. This leads to chronic and usually very severe pain.

      There are enough reasons here: from a physiologically incorrect position of the body, fixed for a long time every day, this may be incorrect posture. This happens if you carry a bag on one shoulder, without throwing it diagonally, in order to somehow minimize the curvature.

      This may be due to an uncomfortable table, the inability to straighten your legs under the table, or other reasons. Remember that modern treatment is truly beneficial; the medical capabilities would have amazed anyone ten years ago, let alone in previous centuries.

      The fact that the flu can cause such pain has been known for a long time, but now it is much easier to fight the flu. Not a single modern disease that may be associated with the appearance of muscle pain is unstudied, you will not be helpless.

      Please note that doctors now approach this issue so carefully that they try first of all to pay attention not even to illnesses, but to simple stressful situations.

      In addition, the data is simply amazing that painful manifestations of stress can begin not only in an adult, whose nerves are gradually weakened and there is a reason to remember the bad things from the accumulated life experience, but also in children.

      Myalgia may not be the most pleasant cause. In addition to the fact that it can and will certainly cause painful manifestations throughout the body, it also provokes insomnia, affects the shoulder joints, affects the neck, knee joints, back of the head and even the chest.

      If we talk about related sensations, patients describe in some detail the feeling of stiffness, especially in the morning. In addition, a clear indicator of this particular disease is its increase in proportion to the load placed on the body. These are the main causes of muscle pain throughout the body.

      What does muscle pain mean?

      Muscle pain is otherwise called myalgia. And absolutely everyone has faced and continues to face this problem. Muscles can hurt both in a tense state and in a relaxed state. This disease does not pose a threat to life, but we still feel some inconvenience.

      Why does muscle pain occur?

      Numerous studies have shown that pain in joints and muscles occurs due to the formation of muscle spasms, which are persistent. This spasm can appear for various reasons.

      In addition to physical activity, one of the first causes is injury. There may also be overvoltage. With their pain, the muscles seem to respond to such unpleasant phenomena.

      Spasm occurs when your posture is incorrect. Prolonged stay in a position that is uncomfortable for the body will lead to a spasm. Moreover, sitting at an uncomfortable table and in an uncomfortable chair is not at all necessary. It is enough to constantly carry the bag on one shoulder.

      Sometimes you may feel pain in your calf muscle , for example, even though you haven't been running or exercising. Surprisingly, severe muscle pain can occur as a result of stress. And this symptom has no age restrictions.

      There is a form of myalgia called fibromyalgia, which causes pain in the ligaments, fibrous muscles and tendons. The pain can be so unpleasant that insomnia occurs. Most often, the muscles of the back of the head, neck, shoulders, chest and near the knee joints are affected by this disease. The risk group consists of women who constantly lack sleep and experience excessive physical and emotional stress.

      There is such a thing as primary myalgia. The condition of the soft tissues is compromised, allowing pain to affect large areas of the muscles. But if you press at a certain point of the affected muscle, all the pain seems to run to the place of pressure.

      Pain can also be caused by inflammation of muscle fibers, the medical name of which is myositis. It often appears as a complication after severe infectious diseases and injuries. The pain is dull and becomes more intense with exertion.

      When muscle pain appears, the reasons may be much more serious. Polymyositis and polymyalgia rheumatica are serious diseases that cause severe muscle pain.

      Workouts that hurt

      Muscle pain after exercise can be good or bad. Good pain appears after loading the muscle. It begins to work intensively, and as a result of metabolic processes, lactic acid accumulates in the muscle. Its quantity, as well as the intensity of pain, is directly proportional to the degree of load. If the muscles have received the “correct” load, then after training you will feel a slight burning sensation in the muscles that you trained. The presence of lactic acid in the blood accelerates regeneration processes by binding free radicals.

      If you want to get rid of pain, just dissolve a pinch of soda in a glass of water and drink. Such a simple recipe can increase the pain threshold.

      Muscle pain from exercise may be delayed. It occurs in those who regularly train, but do not stop there. Even in a well-trained body, new exercises or increasing the number and intensity of familiar ones will cause muscle pain.

      In this case, the pain is a consequence of the fact that microscopic tears occur in the muscle bundles. That is, tiny wounds with hemorrhage appear in the muscles. Naturally, after this, the muscles will ache. But such injury forces the body to work more actively, releasing hormones and other active substances to speed up the process of tissue regeneration. And at this time the muscles become larger. It is noteworthy that the processes are accelerated not only in those muscles that were subject to stress, but throughout the body. Blood carries active substances to all organs and tissues. It is noticed that even nails and hair begin to grow faster.

      Bad pain occurs due to injury and as a result of overtraining. If you train too intensely and often, then the body simply will not have the strength and time to cope with all the microtraumas. As a result, the immune system becomes weaker, and a person can easily be injured.

      In fact, there are a lot of reasons, so we will focus on the most common ones.

      Pain in the leg muscles can occur due to flat feet or obesity, thrombophlebitis or atherosclerosis, due to spinal disease.

      Pain in the arm muscles can be a consequence of infectious diseases, due to metabolic disorders, diffuse myalgia or muscular rheumatism.

      Pain in the back muscles is a symptom of osteochondrosis, scoliosis, disc herniation or kyphosis.

      Pain in the neck muscles can tell you that you have a “blow” somewhere or that you have taken a particularly strange and uncomfortable position in your sleep. This may also be a symptom of osteochondrosis.

      Inflammation of the arteries can cause pain in the thigh muscles .

      Pain in the calf muscle: causes and treatments

      A person may encounter a problem called myalgia - muscle pain of various types. Treatment of unpleasant symptoms varies depending on where the pain occurs, the characteristics of the body and the underlying causes of muscle pain.

      Why does muscle pain occur?

      Changes in contractile processes in the skeletal muscles are responsible for dysfunction of muscles. The causative agents of the reactions lead to reflex muscle contraction (hypertonicity) with painful sensations. This ultimately leads to the release of norepinephrine and the formation of neuromuscular enzymes.

      Muscle tension occurs for various reasons:

    9. tension;
    10. pathology of the viscera;
    11. overload;
    12. inflammatory processes.
    13. Causes and symptoms of pain in different muscle groups

      Any manifestation of unpleasant sensations in the muscles can be either simple overexertion after sports activities or a sign of serious problems. In any case, it is worth considering various factors: from the form of pain to the actions preceding it.

      Various pains in the leg muscles can be associated with diseases of the joints, blood vessels, spine, or the muscles themselves:

    14. Vessels - dull myalgia. Heaviness in the leg muscles occurs due to the obstructed outflow of venous blood and a further increase in pressure, which leads to varicose veins.
    15. Diseases of peripheral nerves - paroxysmal pain. Occurs due to movement disorders. It does not hurt constantly, but attacks of myalgia can last for several minutes.
    16. Joint diseases - twisting pain. Weak joints in the legs often begin to ache due to a dramatic change in weather. In more serious cases, pain occurs due to gout already in old age. Malaise in the knees indicates the destruction of the cartilage plate.
    17. Myositis - aching pain, muscle weakness. Inflammation of the leg muscles occurs due to hypothermia, intoxication of the body, injuries to the leg muscles and various infectious diseases. In the latter case, purulent inflammation and fever are possible. In the worst case, muscle atrophy occurs.
    18. Osteomyelitis is an acute long-term ailment. The cause of the disease lies in the bones and all bone components.
    19. Excess weight means constant aching pain. With excess weight, the load on bones and muscles increases, for this reason, aching pain in the legs may appear at a fairly early age, and in old age they are inevitable.
    20. Chronic overexertion can also cause nagging colic and pain when moving.

      Pain in the thigh muscles can be the cause of the following diseases:

    21. Lyubmago - lumbar lumbago. Overstrain of the lumbar region leads to acute pain reflected in the gluteal and thigh muscles.
    22. Spinal diseases - myalgia radiating to the right or left legs . Problems associated with the intervertebral disc or inflammation of the sciatic nerve leads to radiating pain. Factors causing such diseases are associated with a sedentary lifestyle or hereditary back diseases.
    23. Types of diseases that cause pain in the calf muscles:

    24. Stagnation of blood in the veins - stabbing and aching sensations in the calf. Working on your feet, or, conversely, sedentary work, leads to poor circulation, resulting in oxygen starvation in the leg muscles and the accumulation of toxins.
    25. Thrombophlebitis is throbbing pain and burning in the lower leg or thigh. A constant burning sensation due to inflammation of the walls of the veins and blood clots inside occurs due to possible inflammation and disruption of the integrity of the vessel walls.
    26. Atherosclerosis - contracting spasms. This disease is accompanied by a feeling of cold feet even in the warm season. The discomfort itself intensifies when walking. Arterial damage develops for various reasons: age, heredity, smoking, unbalanced diet towards consumption of animal fats.
    27. Flat feet - leaden heaviness in the legs. Foot problems arise due to poor heredity, excess weight and constant wearing of uncomfortable shoes. Accompanied by aching spasms and rapid fatigue when moving.
    28. Cramps occur quite often as stabbing tension in the tibialis, quadriceps, deltoid and soleus muscles. Involuntary contractions of the muscles in the legs occur due to severe overexertion, hypothermia or incorrect position of the limb.

      The components of the arms are the shoulder muscles, forearm, shoulder and hand muscles.

      The reason may lie both in the pathology of the limb and in non-standard loads on the hands:

    29. Polymyositis is muscle weakness. Muscle tension can arise from rheumatic disorders of a limb or the whole body. Muscle stiffness occurs first in the neck, then in the shoulder muscles, and can subsequently spread throughout the body, down to the feet.
    30. Infectious diseases - aching myalgia. During influenza, Coxsackie and brucellosis, weakness of the body is reflected in the muscles of the arms, reminiscent of the sensations of a bruise upon palpation, but in this case there are no direct problems with the muscles.
    31. Trauma is acute pain. When mechanical damage occurs during physical activity, the muscle ruptures. In addition to acute colic, there is swelling of the limb and pain upon tactile contact.
    32. Cramps are sharp wave-like tingling sensations. Overexertion, incorrect hand position or hypothermia leads to sudden cramps. You should relax your muscles and massage the sore spot.
    33. Pain in all muscles of the body

      Sometimes unpleasant sensations do not arise locally, but are distributed throughout the body.

      This happens due to the following reasons:

    34. Blood diseases - muscle aches. If you suspect lymphoma or leukemia (the muscles of the whole body hurt, but there are no typical signs of a viral disease), you should immediately consult a doctor.
    35. Weakened immunity - feeling of a bruise. During viral and infectious diseases, along with high fever, the body aches and hurts as if after intense physical exertion. Such ailments disappear after the end of the active phase of the disease.
    36. Fibromyalgia is a symmetrical ailment throughout the body. Most often, chronic muscle fatigue occurs due to psychological trauma. Constant stress and fatigue lead to constant wandering muscle pain throughout the body, most manifested in the back of the head, neck, chest, hips and knees.
    37. Food poisoning is a general weakness. In addition to pain in all muscle groups, there is increased temperature (less often, chills and cold sweats), weakness of the whole body and sharp colic in the abdominal area. In this case, you should rinse the stomach by inducing vomiting, taking sorbents and plenty of clean water.
    38. A tick bite is aching pain. In the case of encephalitis infection, after a vector bite, in addition to pain in the body, small blisters with white liquid appear in the bite area. It is necessary to go to the hospital as soon as possible.
    39. Fasting is a serious muscle strain. Due to the inhibition of all metabolic processes during a long fast, not only the organs, but also the muscles of the body are excessively tense.

      Pain in this area worries people due to frequent physical activity and improper selection of mattresses for beds.

      A neck injury causes constant muscle tension. Even slight displacement of the vertebrae due to mechanical damage leads to depression, paresthesia of the limbs, dizziness and constant problems with sleep at night.

      But there are other causes of muscle pain in the neck:

    40. A hernia is an ailment of the entire upper back and neck. The cervical discs become displaced and form a bulge outside the spinal column itself. Due to the occurrence of a hernia, weakening of the arm muscles and constant migraine occur.
    41. Stress - severe neck pain. Chronic fatigue and tension, as well as frequent neuroses lead to pain in the neck.
    42. Osteochondrosis - spasms of the neck muscles. The pain is sharp and aching, sometimes it can radiate to the arms and shoulder blades. Spasms begin due to abrasion of the cervical vertebrae due to the depletion of the layer of a special lubricating substance between the joints.
    43. Cervical myositis - tearing or aching pain at night or during the day. The cause of the disease lies in the weakened state of bone tissue, its infection or purulent infections. Treatment for such symptoms is prescribed by a specialist.
    44. Hypertension - morning sickness. High blood pressure often bothers people not only with migraines, but also with pain in the neck muscles, most often in the morning.
    45. Spondylosis - neck muscle pain and headache. Atypical spinal processes of the spine contribute to pinching of nerve endings, which leads to painful sensations.
    46. Inflammation of the neck - pain in the anterior or sternomastoid muscles. Damage to the submandibular lymph nodes causes nagging and intense pain in the anterior muscles. Hypothermia of the cervical joints in the back is characterized by pain, accompanied by shooting pain in the back, behind the ears, in the lower part of the face and in the eyes.
    47. In the absence of sports or basic exercise and a sedentary lifestyle, spasms occur in various limbs, including the neck.

      Pain in the back muscles, for example, in the trapezius, occurs when:

      • Overwork - aching pain. With excessive load on the back area, aching pain appears from the shoulder blades to the lower back.
      • Short shoulders - constant muscle tension. With pathology of a shorter length of the shoulder relative to the body, constant tension occurs. Ultimately, it causes the muscles of the shoulders and shoulder blades to ache.
      • Gynecological problems - lower back pain. This most often worries women. Treatment is prescribed taking into account gynecological characteristics.
      • Pain in the muscles of the tongue and throat

        There are a number of diseases that cause pain in the tongue and throat:

      • Emotional state - spasms squeezing the throat and cheekbones . A psychological state of excitement, jealousy or irritation may be accompanied by spasms in the throat and cheekbones. Most often, this precedes the appearance of tears, and other than a bad mood, it does not portend anything dangerous.
      • Inflammation - acute pain. Laryngitis and tonsillitis weaken the functioning of the entire oropharyngeal cavity.
      • Drug intoxication - aching pain. This phenomenon is accompanied by pain not only in the throat, but also in the stomach. General weakness is accompanied by chills or fever.
      • Muscle pain after exercise

        Mild pain in the area of tense parts of the body is considered normal, but with excess training or improper selection of strength loads, the muscles can tear, which will lead to acute pain when using the muscles.

        Muscle pain in a child

        Children's muscles may ache from time to time after long periods of exercise due to active games; the irregularity of such manifestations is not terrible and is natural. Acute pain in the joints with a swollen limb and a possible increase in temperature indicates an injury to the child.

        If a growing body does not receive enough microelements such as magnesium, calcium, and B vitamins, then spasms and ailments in the body can become systematic.

        Muscle pain in the lower abdomen in women

        Spasms in the lower abdomen may indicate inflammatory processes in the genitourinary system, but there are other reasons:

      • Vaginismus is spasms of the vaginal muscles. If you feel discomfort during sexual intercourse due to poor preparation and fear, vaginismus can develop, which is dangerous due to pinching of the partner’s organ inside the woman.
      • Inflammation of the uterus - tension in the abdominal muscles . The entry of harmful microorganisms into the fallopian tubes and ovaries is called salpingo-oophoritis and is accompanied not only by muscle pain, but also by elevated body temperature and migraines.
      • Piriformis syndrome is a neurological compression of a nerve. The pain is especially pronounced in the buttocks and thighs, but can radiate to the lower abdomen; it intensifies when moving the legs due to the tension of the pinched nerve.

      In order to find the cause, the following studies should be carried out:

    48. medical history;
    49. symptoms;
    50. instrumental research methods (MRI, ultrasound, x-ray);
    51. medical examination;
    52. laboratory research;
    53. electrophysiological methods.
    54. Which doctor should I contact for treatment?

      Depending on the cause of myalgia, the following doctors can carry out and prescribe treatment:

    55. traumatologist;
    56. surgeon (including vascular);
    57. neurologist;
    58. gynecologist;
    59. rheumatologist;
    60. infectious disease specialist;
    61. physiotherapy doctor.
    62. A specialist for a more specific disease may be recommended by the general practitioner after reviewing the disease data.

      First aid for an attack of pain at home

      Serious muscle pain due to dangerous pathologies cannot be treated at home.

      But in the case of short-term cramps or pain associated with joint diseases, you can relieve the symptoms with the following basic methods:

    63. Painkiller. Taking possible painkillers will help temporarily relieve discomfort, but will not solve the cause.
    64. Massage. If you are overstrained, you should gradually relax the limb and do a light warming massage.
    65. Cooling. If there are symptoms of injury in the form of swelling and pain in the muscles, you should apply an ice pack or an ice cloth to the sore spot within the first 10 minutes from the moment of injury.
    66. Warm. If more than 15 minutes have passed, the cold will not help. In this case, the swollen limb should be warmed up.
    67. How to treat muscle pain?

      The consulting doctor may prescribe the following treatment methods depending on the type of disease:

    68. Massage. Prescribed for muscle strain syndrome and done by specialists, home massage can only alleviate the symptoms. However, it must be done after the exacerbation has subsided.
    69. Physiotherapy. Most often, myalgia is treated with electrophoresis with proserine or calcium chloride. For some diseases, electrical muscle stimulation and thermal procedures are used.

      Gymnastics and exercises. Exercises to improve muscle condition during sedentary work or an inactive lifestyle are prescribed by an individual physical therapy doctor.

    70. Acupuncture and manual therapy. Such methods have been considered effective since the times of ancient China, but are not as well developed in medicine as other methods of treatment. Manual therapy is considered similar to massage, but has its own individual differences.
    71. Drug treatment can help indirectly by weakening the diseases that cause myalgia:

    72. Tablets help relieve pain during treatment or at the initial stage.
    73. Ointments quickly help with non-serious mechanical damage to muscle areas that are easy to reach for the active ingredients. Most often, ointments have a warming effect.
    74. Injections are a more serious method of treatment and are prescribed exclusively by the attending physician.
    75. The folk methods of our ancestors are taken by many people much more seriously than modern methods of treatment:

    76. Ointment made from a mixture of laurel and juniper. Both components are ground into flour and mixed with Vaseline, and the ointment is applied to the affected area overnight.
    77. Crushed boiled potatoes with skins are applied in gauze to the sore spot overnight.
    78. A mixture of lard or oil with horsetail.
    79. Large cabbage leaves with soap and salt are applied to the affected area.
    80. Night lotions made from honey and grated horseradish or black radish.
    81. thyme infusion 2-3 times a day.
    82. Muscle pain during pregnancy

      Myalgia during pregnancy often occurs in women in the iliacus and pectoral muscles who were not active before pregnancy:

      • Your back will probably hurt from the heavy load of the growing fetus, as well as the muscles of the pelvic floor. The muscles of the legs suffer no less, because they have to support the weight of another organism.
      • It is best to start preparing for conception in advance and train both the body as a whole and the pelvic muscles separately for a less painful passage of the birth itself.
      • Myalgia should be treated by taking vitamin complexes for pregnant women , doing special physical exercise and avoiding overexertion in the expectant mother.
      • It is dangerous to self-medicate when serious muscle pathologies and accompanying unpleasant reactions of the body are detected, therefore, in case of unpleasant excesses, you should immediately contact a therapist who, based on the data of tests and checks, can schedule an appointment with a highly specialized doctor.

        Why do my abdominal muscles hurt?

        Pain in the abdominal muscles can be caused by various reasons - injuries, excessive stress, including as a result of sports, or during pregnancy. To determine the possible cause of pain in the abdominal muscles, let’s take a more specific look at the most common cases.

        Abdominal muscle pain during pregnancy - is it dangerous?

        Often pregnant mothers in the second trimester of pregnancy notice unpleasant pain in the abdominal muscles. The cause of such pain is muscle stretching as a result of an increase in the size of the uterus and, accordingly, the size of the abdomen. This is a natural reaction of the muscles to excessive tension, and pain of this nature goes away on its own. In case of very severe pain, you cannot do without medical advice.

        Why do the muscles in the lower abdomen hurt?

        Painful sensations in the muscles of the lower abdominal region can be obtained as a result of intense physical activity during sports. Moreover, such pain, called sore throat, is not the lot of only beginners joining the ranks of athletes. This phenomenon is also encountered by people who play sports professionally, as a result of excessive stress or after a long break from exercise. Also, pain in the lower abdominal area can simply arise due to a change in exercise or number of approaches, that is, as a result of a change in intensity and area of impact.

        Such pain can appear both during and after training (delayed muscle pain). They are based on specific biochemical processes occurring in the working muscle, namely the formation of lactic acid. It accumulates and at some point reaches such an amount that it literally “burns” the pain receptors and the athlete feels a burning sensation in the muscle. The nature of delayed muscle pain is somewhat different: myofibrils (the finest components of muscle fiber) that rupture during intense training become dehydrated and draw water from the surrounding tissues, as a result of which the muscle “swells” (in the lexicon of athletes there is even such a thing as “clogged muscle”). At this moment, that is, a few days after training, the pain is felt. For people involved in sports, such pain is a sign that the training is effective and the muscles are working.

        The same workout, but feasible, will help reduce pain in the lower abdominal muscles after an intense workout. Perform exercises according to your capabilities, increase the load gradually and be sure to stretch. The latter is not only a method of combating sore throat, but also an effective means of preventing it. You can also take a warm shower or bath with the addition of essential oils for a relaxing effect.

        Pain in the muscles of the lower abdomen can also be caused by excessive physical activity not related to sports. Even seemingly mundane tasks or activities for untrained muscles can result in painful sensations. An example of such “overkill” is a sharp transition from a sedentary winter image to an active country or picnic image in the spring. In this case, the only method of preventing such unpleasant situations is regular physical activity, evenly distributed throughout the year.

        Again, pain in the muscles of the lower abdomen can occur in the second half of pregnancy due to the high load on them as a result of an increase in the size of the abdomen and pressure from inside the growing uterus, as well as as a result of physical activity or overexertion. In addition, unpleasant sensations in the lower growing tummy of the expectant mother can be caused by a stretched round ligament that supports this very uterus. This pain comes on suddenly and goes away quickly. Postoperative sutures and adhesions left after surgical interventions in the abdominal cavity can also be of concern - the increasing size of the uterus stretches them, thereby causing pain. The cause of nagging pain in the lower abdomen can also be disruption of the intestines due to poor nutrition (heavy dinner, heavy or not fresh food), compression by the growing uterus or existing diseases (colitis, dysbiosis). To avoid this, you need to eat foods rich in fiber (whole grain bread, fruits, vegetables), drink plenty of fluids and stay active (walk more). Such pain sensations, one way or another, will be present in the second half of pregnancy, but your attending physician should be aware of them, since they can also be an indicator of an unfavorable course of pregnancy or possible gynecological diseases.

        Oblique abdominal muscle hurts - why?

        The causes of pain in the oblique abdominal muscles are the same as for pain in the muscles of the lower abdomen. They can occur as a result of unusual or excessive physical exercises aimed at working directly with this muscle group or affecting it during the exercise.

        This may be a consequence of a sudden lifting of a heavy object or carrying heavy loads at home or at work.

        Also, pain in the area of the oblique abdominal muscles can occur in pregnant women in the later stages due to a significant increase in the abdomen.

        What are the causes of wandering joint pain?

        Our body uses pain to signal various problems, including those in the musculoskeletal system. The pain can be different: sharp, acute, burning, nagging, moderate, long-lasting. And there are flying or migrating ones - they appear in one or another joint. Such wandering pain in the joints is called arthralgia. What kind of disease is this, what is its treatment and what is the connection between arthralgia and rheumatoid arthritis?

        Features of arthralgia

        Wandering pain occurs due to pinching of nerve endings in any part of the joint, with the exception of cartilage, which is not supplied with nerves. Neuroreceptors are irritated as a result of poor circulation in the joint or spasm of the periarticular muscles. If pain in the joints is periodic, but no other symptoms of an inflammatory or degenerative (destructive) nature are observed, then arthralgia is considered an independent disease.

        Doctors identify the following important differences between arthralgia and sudden pain that is explained by the load on the joint.

      • Clear localization in one joint, without spreading beyond the affected joint.
      • One-sidedness: most often the pain is asymmetrical and occurs in one part of the body.
      • The nature of the pain is varied: aching, stabbing, throbbing.
      • The pain occurs periodically, regardless of the time of day.
      • The duration of the pain syndrome is more than three months.
      • In children, wandering pains can be psychosomatic - that is, from a lack of parental attention or imitation of sick adults. In this case, the child’s description of pain is illogical and theatrical.

    With arthralgia, the joint does not swell or redden. But if systemic problems are obvious in the body - fever, rashes, weight loss, etc. - the development of arthritis, arthrosis of the joint and even malignant tumors can be suspected.

    Orthopedic diseases can be diagnosed several years after the onset of migratory pain. That's why it's so important to listen to your body's signals and start treatment on time.

    Arthralgia as a symptom of joint diseases

    Doctors have identified a relationship between arthralgia and many rheumatic diseases. Doctors also consider migrating pain in the limbs and back as a harbinger of degenerative processes in the skeletal system (arthrosis, osteoporosis). Wandering pain in the back and limbs as an independent phenomenon occurs for the same reasons as orthopedic ailments. Namely:

  • infectious diseases and autoimmune pathologies;
  • injuries and excessive stress on joints;
  • side effect after taking steroid hormones;
  • diseases of the nervous system and endocrine disorders;
  • connective tissue dysplasia and hereditary predisposition.
  • The only difference is that with arthralgia, as a harbinger of joint diseases, specific symptoms are present. Patients complain of insufficient mobility of the joint, swelling and redness of the affected part, the inability to exercise the limb for a long time in the morning, and accompanying pain in the periarticular tissues. Such signs are more characteristic of inflammatory processes. General weakness and high temperature indicate the acute phase of the disease.

    Arthrosis often reveals itself by crunching and clicking in the joints. Morning stiffness is short-lived, no more than 1 hour. But the configuration of the joint is already beginning to change due to cartilage degeneration and abrasion of bones in the joint cavity.

    Migrating pain can sometimes lead to avascular necrosis syndrome. The patient feels a foreign body in the joint, in simple words “joint mouse”. This feeling appears due to the rejection of the dead part of the cartilage into the joint cavity.

    In addition to pain, the patient complains of spontaneous blockades of the joint.

    Wandering form of rheumatoid arthritis

    Often, pain and stiffness in the joints with rheumatoid arthritis are dispersed across several joints at once and periodically occur in different parts of the body. The lesion begins with large joints - hip and knee, then pain is felt in the ankle, hand, and elbow. In this case, we are talking about a rare form of rheumatoid arthritis - “wandering arthritis”, the symptoms of which are insidious in their inconstancy. Swelling, fever and redness of various joints may disappear on their own 2-3 days after their occurrence. Such volatile phenomena are a sign of a systemic inflammatory process in the body.

    Unfortunately, wandering arthritis, the treatment of which is one of the goals of modern medicine, cannot yet be defeated. More than 50% of patients with this disease may become disabled. Among the specific causes that provoke the development of wandering arthritis (also called rheumatoid fever), group A streptococcus is noted. This bacterium causes a sore throat, and its waste products are very toxic to our body, so the onset of the disease is characterized by severe fever.

    Treatment of migratory pain

    Due to the fact that the treatment of arthralgia as an independent disease is fundamentally different from the treatment of wandering pain of an inflammatory nature, rheumatologists conduct the following studies.
