When arthrosis of the knee joint appears, treatment with folk remedies is an effective measure in the fight against the disease. But all remedies should be used only after consultation with the attending physician.
As you know, arthrosis is a joint disease that leads to the slow destruction of cartilage tissue in the joint. This is due to the fact that a change in the endings of the bones occurs, leading to their inflammation. The disease has a very large percentage of distribution throughout the world and ranks 3rd, behind cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Both men and women are equally susceptible to this disease. The onset of the disease is observed at the age of about 30 years, and the percentage of its manifestation increases every year.
According to experts, the main reasons for knee arthrosis are: metabolic disorders, hormonal disorders, decreased blood flow in the joint, hereditary factors, old age, various injuries and even psoriasis.
Factors influencing the development of this disease may also include:
The main symptoms of this disease are: pain when putting stress on the joints, a decrease in their mobility, the appearance of a crunch and a feeling of tension in the muscle tissue in the joints, and their swelling.
Treatment of arthrosis of the knee joint must be carried out as soon as symptoms of the disease appear; it is carried out comprehensively and pathogenetically. In complex treatment, anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications are used, which alternate with physiotherapeutic procedures; it is possible to use healing mud and mineral water. The main task of treating arthrosis of the knee joint is to eliminate the factors contributing to its development.
Along with medical methods, it is possible to cure arthrosis at home using traditional methods. There are a lot of them.
Let's look at some of them.
A good helper in the fight against pain in this disease is cabbage, especially its leaves, which are used both fresh and in the form of compresses. Both methods are very effective and remarkably contribute to the treatment of arthrosis.
Cabbage juice reduces pain. It is obtained as follows. A medium-sized head of cabbage is cut into pieces and placed in an enamel bowl, since metal can oxidize and release harmful substances into the juice. Then the cabbage is thoroughly kneaded using a masher and passed through a juicer. The resulting juice is used to wet the woolen fabric until it is completely saturated. This tissue is then placed over the damaged joint. The procedure is carried out before bedtime. The shelf life of the finished juice is no more than 3 days, and it should be stored in a dark place.
Cabbage leaves are also used. In order to make a compress, the first large leaves, which are the most juicy, are removed from large cabbage. The inner parts of the leaves are smeared with flower honey and this side is applied to the sore joints. All this is insulated with plastic film and woolen fabric and left overnight. In the morning, the compress is removed, and the remaining honey is removed using heated water. The compress is applied every day for a month.
Rubbing with elecampane will help relieve joint pain. To prepare it, you need to thoroughly mix 50 g of the root of this plant with 125 ml of vodka. The resulting solution is left to infuse in a dark place for two weeks. After this period, the rub is applied to the sore spots. Rubbing is done every day until the pain completely disappears.
Oatmeal flakes, available in almost every home, are very effective in treating this disease.
An oatmeal compress is quite easy to prepare and the process takes very little time. What needs to be done for this? 4-5 tbsp. Oatmeal is filled with water, previously brought to a boil. Then the porridge is placed on the stove for 6-8 minutes. boil over low heat. Oatmeal should have a viscous consistency. Then it is laid out on a woolen, cotton or linen cloth, which is subsequently applied to the sore spot overnight. The compress is wrapped in polyethylene and attached to the body with a bandage. The porridge must be cooked before each compress, since after a day it loses its medicinal properties.
Treatment of arthrosis with kefir and eggshells. This compress normalizes the functioning of the diseased joint. For this, egg shells are ground into powder and mixed with kefir. The amount of kefir should be such that a thick substance is obtained. It is placed on a linen cloth, which is then folded into an “envelope”, applied to the sore joint, insulated with plastic film and secured to the leg. The compress is applied every day, application time is 2-2.5 hours.
Compresses with chalk and yogurt. Ordinary chalk, which is also ground into powder, has the same medicinal properties as eggshells. Either kefir or any fermented milk product (for example, sour cream or yogurt) is added to it. All components are thoroughly mixed and applied to the sore spot. All this is insulated using a polyethylene film or a plastic bag and left overnight. After removing the compress, the residues are removed with a damp cloth. This chalk compress relieves pain well, has a beneficial effect on blood circulation in the sore joint, and removes swelling.
Pine treatment. Pine contains many beneficial substances, including ester oils, which can relax sore legs and reduce pain. To treat arthrosis, the needles of the plant are used, which are used for baths. In order to get such a therapeutic bath, you will need a certain number of pine branches with needles, as well as several Jerusalem artichokes, cut into small pieces. The components are lowered into a bath of hot water. Turpentine (1 tsp), sea salt (1 kg), honey (2 tbsp) are also added there. Time spent in the bath is about 20 minutes. Then the skin is thoroughly dried with a towel and a mesh of iodine is drawn in the area of the sore joint, and the area is smeared with honey. A steamed mesh of pig fat is also applied there. Course of treatment: every day for 2 weeks.
Onion decoctions. The use of this remedy will forever help you say goodbye to both arthrosis and osteochondrosis, arthritis and gout. 2 large onions, peeled and chopped. Then the components are boiled in 1 liter of distilled water until the onion is completely cooked. The decoction is taken 1 glass 3 times a day before meals. Course of treatment: 1 month.
Hay baths. These baths are done for severe pain. Take hay dust (3-5 handfuls) and fill it with water at a temperature of 100 o C, cover the container with a lid and cool to 30 o C. Then the solution is poured into the bath. Procedure time: 0.5 hours. Course of treatment: every day for 2 weeks.
All the above recipes and tips will help you in the fight against such an unpleasant disease as arthrosis of the knee joints.
With the development of arthrosis of the knee joint, traditional medicine is often used, which is a very effective way to combat the pathology. However, such treatment must be agreed with a doctor.
Osteoarthritis is a disease in which the cartilage fibers slowly break down in the joint. This process develops because the endings of the bones change, resulting in an inflammatory process.
This disease is very common, it ranks third in popularity worldwide, behind cardiovascular pathologies and cancer.
Osteoarthritis of the knee joint can develop in women and men. Typically, the age of onset of the disease is 30 years, and the percentage of its spread increases daily.
According to doctors, the main causes of arthrosis lie in poor blood flow in the joint, metabolic disorders, genetic predisposition, hormonal disorders, psoriasis, various injuries and aging of the body. There are other factors that contribute to the progression of knee inflammation, these include:
The main manifestations of arthrosis of the knee joint include pain, a feeling of muscle strain, swelling of the knee and a reduction in its mobile functions.
Joint inflammation should be treated as soon as possible, that is, when the first manifestations of the disease are noticed. Moreover, treatment should be pathogenetic and comprehensive.
With complex therapy, the doctor prescribes analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs. In addition, drug treatment should alternate with physical therapy. Perhaps the doctor will write a referral to a sanatorium, where the patient will undergo treatment with mineral baths and healing mud. But the main goal of arthrosis therapy is to eliminate the causes that contribute to the progression of the disease.
In addition to traditional methods of treatment, joint inflammation can be treated with folk remedies. There are a considerable number of home recipes, so each patient can choose the most effective and optimal option from them.
As reviews show, treatment with dandelion flowers brings good results for arthrosis of the knee joint. For these purposes, you should eat about 5 flowers of the plant daily, which must first be washed in boiled water.
You can also make an infusion from dandelion. To do this, you need to prepare 5 dark glass bottles, and then fill them halfway with flowers. The remaining half of the container is filled with triple cologne.
Dandelions are infused in a dark place. It is necessary to treat a sore knee with this remedy for 1 month.
Also, for arthrosis of the knee joint, you can prepare a remedy based on dandelion leaves. For this purpose, the raw materials are poured with boiling water. Daily 1 tbsp. l. This mixture is chewed until the person takes 3,000 steps.
In addition, arthrosis can be cured with hydrogen peroxide. These treatments will help:
You can also apply a horseradish compress to the affected knee, which will help overcome the pain. This remedy is in great demand, so it is recommended to treat not only arthrosis, but also other joint diseases.
To prepare a compress, you need to prepare horseradish root, then grate it and steam it in a water bath. After that, the horseradish should be placed on a moistened piece of cloth and applied to the sore area.
In addition, traditional therapy recommends that people suffering from arthrosis apply an iodine compress to the knee joint. Moreover, pensioners claim that folk remedies bring more effective results than some methods of traditional treatment.
The recipe here is as follows:
I infuse the product for 10 days in a dark place. Afterwards, the medicine is shaken and heated in a water bath.
The mixture is used as follows: a napkin soaked in the infusion is applied to the knee joint area before going to bed, and it is important to wrap the compress in cellophane and woolen cloth.
Also, many recommend treating knee arthrosis with cabbage, which is an effective assistant in the fight against pain symptoms. The leaves of this plant are considered the most healing. They can be used fresh or made into compresses.
In particular, for arthrosis of the knee joint it is useful to drink cabbage juice. This is how you get it: take a medium-sized head of cabbage and cut it into pieces. Afterwards, the chopped vegetable is transferred to an enamel bowl, because a metal bowl can oxidize and, as a result, harmful substances will get into the juice.
Then the cabbage should be mashed using a masher, and then passed through a juicer. Next, take a woolen cloth, soak it in cabbage juice and apply it to the inflamed area.
It is advisable to do this procedure before bedtime. By the way, cabbage juice should be stored in a dark place and for no more than 3 days.
Cabbage leaves are a folk remedy that can quickly cure arthrosis of the knee joint. To prepare a compress from them, you need to remove the first sheets, and then grease them with honey and apply the “sticky” side to the joint.
Afterwards, the sore area of the leg should be insulated with polyethylene and woolen cloth and the compress should be left overnight. This treatment is carried out daily for 30 days.
In addition, you can get rid of pain due to arthrosis of the knee joint by using a rub based on elecampane. To do this, mix 50 g of root with 130 ml of vodka, and then infuse the product in a dark place for about 2 weeks.
After rubbing, rub into the sore area of the leg. The knee should be treated in this way every day until the pain completely disappears.
It is worth noting that for arthrosis, such a folk remedy as oatmeal is very effective. An oatmeal compress is very easy to prepare, and the process will only take a small amount of time.
It is prepared in this way: 5 tbsp. l. flakes are poured with water brought to a boil, and then the oatmeal should simmer on the stove for 7 minutes. Next, the porridge, which has a viscous consistency, is laid out on a piece of natural fabric and applied to the sore area.
The oatmeal compress should also be wrapped in polyethylene and tied to the knee using a piece of gauze. Important: for each new compress you need to cook fresh porridge.
In turn, arthrosis can be cured not only with a compress with honey, but with kefir and even eggshells. Such components make it possible to normalize the functioning of the diseased joint.
First you need to grind the eggshells into powder and mix it with the fermented milk product. The consistency of the product should be thick. The resulting mixture is spread on linen cloth, and then wrapped in an envelope and applied to the affected area.
Everything is insulated with polyethylene on top and then fixed on the leg. This treatment should be carried out every other day, the duration of one procedure is 2.5 hours.
You can get rid of the unfavorable manifestations of arthrosis with the help of curdled milk and chalk, which is famous for its healing properties identical to eggshells. Chalk is mixed with some fermented milk product, and then everything is thoroughly mixed, and the mass is applied to the sore leg.
In this case, the knee should be insulated with polyethylene and the compress should be left overnight. In the morning it is removed, and any remaining medication is removed with a damp cloth. Inflammation in the knee should be treated with chalk and yogurt when the pathology is accompanied by swelling and intense pain.
Pine, which is replete with a lot of useful substances, in particular essential oils that help eliminate pain, helps to cope very effectively with the unpleasant symptoms of the disease. In the treatment of arthrosis, plant needles are used, from which baths are made.
To prepare a therapeutic pine bath you need:
This water procedure can be carried out for no longer than 20 minutes. After taking a bath in the area of the inflamed joint, you need to draw an iodine mesh and then smear it with honey. Next, a mesh of visceral fat is applied to the knee. This treatment must be carried out daily for 14 days.
Hay baths are also very effective in combating severe arthrosis pain. To perform the water procedure, you need to put 5 handfuls of hay dust in a pan, pour boiling water over it and let it brew for a while.
Afterwards, the infusion can be poured into a bath, in which the patient should steam for 30 minutes. The course of therapy lasts daily for 14 days.
Onion broth is a powerful remedy. Treatment methods based on this ingredient help to permanently overcome arthrosis, arthritis, gout and osteochondrosis.
To prepare the decoction, you need to take 2 large onions and chop them finely. Afterwards, add 1 liter of purified water to the onion and cook until completely softened.
Onion broth is taken 200 ml three times a day. Duration of therapy is no more than 1 month.
Another real life incident. One woman living alone suffered from arthrosis, rheumatism and polyarthritis and there was no one to help her. She couldn’t even get to work because the pain in her knee joints made her faint. Doctors told her that they couldn’t help her at this stage of the disease. I hardly slept for a whole month: my veins were swollen, my legs were covered with huge lumps, and I was constantly tormented by cramps. You can tolerate pain, but you cannot tolerate cramps.
But one day in some newspaper she came across an article that said that there was a remedy - hydrogen peroxide. She immediately started drinking hydrogen peroxide and was very happy that this recipe caught her attention. After 9 months, very slowly, the pain began to go away. Now she can at least go to work. To evaluate the results, you need to take the medicine for a very long time, and then you will notice that your health is better than 3 or 6 months ago.
Some people cannot cure arthrosis for a long time. And we can tell you a good recipe for folk treatment of arthrosis, which many have successfully cured deforming arthrosis and even a fracture of the femoral neck. Rather, buy horseradish or pick it from your garden.
Grind the roots, and then let them steam in water over low heat, but the water should not boil. Place the resulting composition on a canvas cloth, having previously wetted it with such a drug. And then apply it to the affected areas. Stock up on dried roots for winter too. When necessary again, chop the roots, steam and apply to sore spots.
Let's tell you a short story from real life who was helped by this treatment. One woman broke her hip, and her son took her to the hospital in St. Petersburg. There the woman learned that horseradish heals fractures well. At that time they had already played the record for her in the hospital. And three months later she went back to that hospital. The doctor looked and concluded that there was no need to insert a new plate. Everything grew together as it should.
Many older people constantly suffer from arthrosis and suffer from salt deposits. In this case, you should turn your attention to traditional medicine, which is sometimes much more effective than traditional medicine.
Take five percent medical iodine, ten percent ammonia, May flower honey, medical bile and glycerin. Take all components in equal proportions. Mix them and leave for ten days in a place where there is no sunlight. Before you make compresses, shake the mixture, pour part of the broth into a small jar and heat in a water bath.
Then soak the napkins in this heated broth and place them on the joint before going to bed. Place cellophane and wool fabric on top. Do this treatment every day until you are healthy.
A long-known “drug” for eliminating pain due to arthrosis is cabbage leaves. This plant is beneficial both when used in the daily diet and when used as a compress. There are two common ways to treat arthrosis using fresh cabbage leaves in folk medicine. Each of them is good in its own way. And both give approximately the same effect.
In folk medicine, cabbage juice has long been used when it is necessary to reduce pain that occurs in patients with osteoarthritis of the joints. And the effectiveness of this method is quite high. You can prepare cabbage juice by taking a medium-sized head of cabbage and cutting it into medium-sized pieces with a knife. After this, the cabbage slices are transferred to a bowl: preferably enameled, but you can also use a metal one made of metal that is not subject to oxidation.
Then you need to mash the cabbage thoroughly - using a masher or just with your hands. And put the resulting mass into a juicer. The compress preparation is ready.
Now you will need a small piece of woolen fabric or a small wool product. In this case, the material must be pure wool, without the addition of synthetic fibers. After soaking the fabric in cabbage juice so that the material is completely saturated, the compress is carefully applied to the sore joint. The regularity of applying compresses is once a day. It's better to do this in the evenings.
You can store prepared cabbage juice for no longer than three days. Then it loses its beneficial properties. You need to keep it in a dark place.
There is practically no need to cook anything. It's even easier than making a compress with cabbage juice.
It is recommended in the evening, before going to bed, to remove the largest and juiciest leaves from a large head of cabbage. They must be fresh, not dried out. Then honey, usually flower honey, is applied to the concave surface of the leaves. And with the same side the sheet is applied to the painful joint. The effect of the compress can be enhanced by using plastic wrap and a piece of wool, which is placed on top of a fresh cabbage leaf.
The cabbage leaf compress is left overnight, and the next day it is removed and the remaining honey is removed using warm water. It is recommended to repeat the procedure for at least one month. Such a long period of therapy is explained by the fact that the medicinal ingredients gradually accumulate in the affected tissues and begin to “work” over time.
The recipe for this drug from the arsenal of traditional medicine is very simple. It is very easy to prepare, and then you can use it for a long time, since the product lasts for a long time.
To make the rub, you need to purchase dry elecampane root at any pharmacy in your locality and combine the dried fragments of the plant with vodka. The ratio in the recipe is as follows: 50 g of elecampane plus 125 ml of vodka.
The mixture must be mixed well and left to infuse. It is recommended to place the container with the mixture in some dark place so that it is not exposed to sunlight. The time required for the mixture to infuse is at least twelve days. After this period, the rub can be applied to the skin in the area of the affected joint. Do this daily until the pain disappears.
An effective remedy for arthrosis is oatmeal, which can usually be found in the kitchen of any family.
Four to five tablespoons of Hercules flakes or other products made from oat grains should be poured with water, which has previously been brought to a boil. Place the dishes on the stove and cook over low heat. Cooking time is about six to eight minutes. There should be little water - the porridge should be viscous.
After cooling the porridge, you need to take a piece of dense fabric made from natural threads (wool, cotton, linen), put the oatmeal on it, wrap it and apply a compress to the painful area. For a better effect, the fabric is covered with plastic wrap and bandaged to the body. Keep the oatmeal compress throughout the night.
Each time before preparing the compress, boil fresh oatmeal. It is important. After a day, all the beneficial substances in it are already destroyed. Although you can store cooked porridge for twenty-four hours, it is better to prepare a new one.
The shells of chicken eggs are ground to a powder, and then thoroughly mixed with kefir: enough is added to make the mixture thick.
Then the resulting pulp is wrapped in linen cloth, the fabric is folded into an envelope and applied to the sore joint. Polyethylene is placed on top and the compress is secured to the body. It is recommended to leave the “lotion” for two to two and a half hours and perform the procedure daily.
The effect of using such a compress is based, among other things, on the fact that eggshells contain a lot of calcium, which is necessary for the normal functioning of joints.

Instead of shells, you can add chalk to the mixture. Ordinary chalk, used to write on a blackboard, is ground in a mortar to a powder. Chalk used in construction is not suitable for making such a compress: it contains many inclusions that, if they come into contact with the skin, can harm human health.
Kefir or another dairy product - sour cream or yogurt - is added to the chalk powder. All ingredients are thoroughly mixed. The mass should be thick. It is applied to the affected joint and hermetically sealed with a piece of plastic film or a plastic bag. The compress is left on the body for several hours - all night. The next morning, remove and remove the remaining mixture with a napkin.
Such a compress, made from chalk with dairy products, experts say, helps relieve pain and at the same time has a beneficial effect on the blood circulation process and reduces the manifestations of edema.
Dandelions have long been known as an effective remedy that works well for joint diseases. For patients with arthrosis, it is proposed to use this plant in two different versions.
To prepare the compress you will need dandelion flowers collected in May. The inflorescences can be used fresh. Or you can dry it to use in home treatment later.
If you plan to prepare a compress from freshly picked flowers, you need to take five buds and wash them thoroughly under pre-boiled water. After this, the inflorescences must be chewed so that the consistency is not very thick.
A compress of pre-prepared dried dandelions is prepared from both flowers and leaves. Pour boiling water over a handful of dry plants and cool the mixture slightly. And then they chew it.
The resulting paste is applied to the sore joint, covered with plastic wrap on top and left for a while. It is recommended to do this compress daily.
You can use dandelion infusion. It is prepared from fresh or dried flowers and triple cologne.
You will need five glass bottles made specifically from dark glass. Each one needs to be filled halfway with dandelions. After this, triple cologne is carefully poured into the bottles so that the liquid reaches the neck. The bottles are then capped. They are placed in a dark place at room temperature. Dandelions need to be infused for at least thirty days.
After 30 days, the infusion is filtered and the medicine can be used. This is very simple to do: just erase the painful areas with light movements.
It is best to carry out this procedure in the evenings, the night before going to bed. And this procedure must be performed regularly - daily. The effect, in the form of disappearance of pain, is usually observed after five to eight weeks.
You can use both methods of treating arthrosis using dandelions at the same time, alternating compresses with rubbing in the tincture. This, according to experienced people, has the most powerful effect.
In folk medicine, joint pain is relieved with honey rubs. To prepare them you need honey, as well as glycerin, alcohol and iodine solution. The ratio is approximately in the same proportions.
All ingredients are mixed well. The mixture is left to infuse for two to three hours. And then you can use it immediately. Soak a piece of cotton wool in the mixture and gently lubricate the skin in the area of the painful joint. In this case, movements are made in the direction from bottom to top.
For a better effect, it is recommended to lubricate not only one joint, but also the skin around it - below and above, which will help improve blood flow in the joint. A rub prepared with honey relieves pain and at the same time helps to better absorb beneficial ingredients. honey actively helps them penetrate the skin faster and enter the affected joint through the bloodstream.
A good well-known folk remedy for the treatment of sore joints in patients with arthrosis is pine needles. It is used to prepare medicinal baths. Taking such baths is not only useful, but also pleasant: essential oils of pine trees have a relaxing and calming effect.
To prepare a pine bath, you will need several pine branches with pine needles. And also Jerusalem artichoke (earthen pear): several tubers that need to be cut into small pieces.
Branches and pieces of Jerusalem artichoke are dipped into a bath filled with hot water. A teaspoon of turpentine prepared from pine resin (gum gum) is also added there. You can also add a kilogram of sea salt and two tablespoons of honey.
It is recommended to stay in a fragrant bath for no more than twenty minutes. After this, the skin is wiped with a towel, and a mesh is drawn on the area of the painful joint with iodine and the area is smeared with flower honey. To enhance the effect, a steamed mesh of pork fat is applied to the affected area. To ensure long-lasting results, it is recommended to take pine baths every day for ten to twelve days.
One of the readers told the following story: her toe on her right foot hurt so badly that she couldn’t even walk. And then I had to see a doctor. He said that she had arthrosis deformans. The hospital prescribed many expensive medications.
But her friend advised her to soak her leg in water with salt and soda. Pour 3 tbsp into a bowl. spoons of salt and 3 tbsp. spoons of baking soda, pour hot water as your foot tolerates, and massage all the fingers and soles directly in the water for 15–20 minutes. Without wiping, put woolen socks on your feet and go to bed.
After a month of treatment, she felt much better, but she still continued treatment for two more months. It’s good that then she listened to her friend and began to use traditional medicine, and not expensive pharmaceutical drugs.
Very often people complain of osteochondrosis, arthritis, arthrosis or gout. A simple folk remedy helped one woman cope with these diseases.
Wash two large onions, peel and chop the peel. The husks and onions need to be boiled in one liter of distilled water until the onions are softened. Take a glass of this decoction three times a day before meals. Then you can throw away the husks, and use the onion in the future as needed: in cooking, for example. At first she was treated for a week.
A year later, the story repeated itself again and the pain began to plague her again. This time she was treated for two weeks. And a year later I was sick again, but the next year nothing happened again.
For pain in the limbs, make baths from hay dust: these are leaves, seeds, stems, flowers. Take three to five handfuls of this dust and pour boiling water over it. Then close the jar with a lid and let the broth cool to thirty-one degrees. You can pour the decoction along with the dust into the bath. The duration of the bath is about half an hour. You can also wrap your hands and feet with a cloth previously soaked in this decoction.
Another folk method for treating leg pain also helps very well. These are foot baths. Such baths are prepared according to the following recipe.
Place the warm malt marc in the tub, then place your feet in it. Leave for about half an hour. You can also use grape marc, which is even better.
One reader has been walking with a cane for several years and has arthrosis. Not long ago, she read some folk recipes for the treatment of arthrosis. And I decided to share these recipes with us. Every day she rubs her sore joints with a 1 cm thick slice of lemon. Gradually, the salt deposits dissolve. Course – 1 month.
An oatmeal compress also helps her well. She pours a handful of cereal into a saucepan with two glasses of water and puts it on the fire. Boil for 10 minutes. Apply a compress for 1 hour. The pain goes away quickly. Or dissolve 50 g of camphor in 100 g of alcohol, add 50 g of mustard powder, stir well. Separately, you need to beat the egg white - this is two or three eggs - and pour into the mixture. The ointment is ready. You also need to rub your joints with it.
