        In modern plastic surgery clinics, surgical operations to eliminate transverse flatfoot have been performed for a long time. In the arsenal of practicing orthopedists there are more than three hundred methods and modifications of surgical treatment of feet with deviation of the big toe.

        Transverse flatfoot is a pathology that should never be ignored, as it can cause many serious consequences.

Due to the fact that the knee and hip joints are not able to absorb shocks that occur when walking, along with flat feet, various forms of arthrosis can form in these bone joints, which over time lead to serious degenerative-dystrophic changes in the joints, causing severe pain even with light loads on the legs. Such patients are no longer able not only to play sports, but also to walk more or less long distances and perform exercises with transverse flatfoot.

        Along with the joints, the spinal column suffers, since the shocks that occur when walking lead to the development of osteochondrosis and other vertebral pathologies.

        How to cure flat feet with folk remedies at home

        Flat feet occur due to the lowering of the transverse or longitudinal arch of the foot, which leads to a modification of its shape. When treating any type of flatfoot, special techniques are used that help train the muscles and support the arch of the foot.

        For proper formation of the foot, you need to regularly stimulate the muscles and ligaments of the legs. It is especially useful for flat feet to walk barefoot on stones, earth, hard grass or sand, while any hard surfaces such as parquet or laminate, on the contrary, have a negative effect on the foot.

        But there are other methods of treating flat feet with folk remedies that are used at home.

        Folk remedies for the treatment of flat feet

        Treatment of flat feet is a long and painstaking work, because it is impossible to overcome this disease easily and quickly. With the help of folk remedies, you can only stop the development of this disease; only surgery can completely remove flat feet.

        Lotions and compresses against flat feet

        Lotions and compresses are more likely to eliminate the pain that occurs with flat feet than to fight the disease itself. But it doesn’t hurt to use them as one of the methods of complex treatment.

        Wormwood is an excellent remedy for pain relief. The leaves are washed, then applied to the feet and wrapped with a soft cloth. This remedy is also used to relieve pain from injuries, dislocations or sprained tendons.

        If, with flat feet, severe pain in the legs bothers you, which interferes with a normal lifestyle, you can prepare another mixture that is applied to the legs. In equal proportions you need to combine a 3% iodine solution and lemon juice, then add crushed aspirin tablets (2 pieces). Mix everything. The container with the pulp is covered with film and wrapped in something warm. You need to make a compress with this mixture. The procedure is carried out for three days in a row, after which a break is taken for a week. Under no circumstances should you take iodine less than 3%, otherwise you may get skin burns.

        Foot baths against flat feet

        In folk medicine, for the treatment of flat feet, it is recommended to use special foot baths to which sea salt is added. They relax leg muscles, strengthen bones and relieve pain. The procedure is very simple. In not too hot water, you need to dissolve table or sea salt (per 1 liter of water - 1 tablespoon of salt) and keep your feet in such a bath for 15 minutes. After this, it is recommended to wipe your feet dry and lubricate them with any nourishing cream, gently massaging the foot. The procedure will not only help relieve pain, but also normalize blood circulation and improve sleep.

        Contrast baths will also be useful. Fill two basins with water: hot and cold. First, steam your feet well (1-2 minutes), then cool in cold water (about 15 seconds). Contrast baths are done for 10 days, followed by a month-long break. During menstruation, women are contraindicated to undergo this procedure.

        You can also add herbal decoctions or infusions to the water - they will only help treat flat feet. You can brew oak bark (1 kg of bark per 5 liters of water). Boil the broth for 30 minutes, then add to the bath.

        Often, for flat feet, a folk remedy with sage infusion is used. To prepare the infusion, you need to infuse 100 g of sage in 2 liters of boiling water. An infusion of peppermint is also used - brew 100 g of the plant in boiling water (wait about 30 minutes). Infusions are added to foot baths, the feet are immersed in water and kept for at least 20 minutes. An infusion of linden and peppermint is prepared using the same principle (the components must be taken in equal parts).

        For flat feet, alcohol tincture of immortelle is also used to lubricate the feet. The inflorescences are first dried in the oven, after which they are poured with alcohol and left to infuse for a couple of days. This remedy can be used not only to treat flat feet, but also for problems such as radiculitis and joint pain.

        Treatment of flat feet with special exercises

        Walking on sea pebbles has a good effect, but you need to do it every day. You can bring stones from the sea, put them in a fabric bag, sew them up and walk on it.

        Stand on your toes and jump from this position 30-40 times. Maintain an average pace of jumping. Repeat the exercise 3-4 times.

        To perform this exercise you will need the appropriate equipment. Sew buttons and beads of different sizes onto a piece of fabric measuring at least 1 x 1 meter. You also need to glue small pebbles, peach pits, etc. onto the fabric. You need to walk on this carpet twice a day, morning and evening, for 10-15 minutes.

        Stand up straight, lower your arms and bend the outer side of your foot inward (begin to deliberately clubfoot). Take 40 steps in this position, then rest a little and repeat all over again.

        Sit in a comfortable position and raise both legs with your feet extended. Make movements with them that resemble the process of controlling a “foot” sewing machine. Each position of the foot must be fixed for 2-3 seconds.

        For this exercise you will need accounting accounts. You need to put them on the floor, sit next to them and try to roll the knuckles with your feet. Perform for at least 10 minutes.

        Fill a regular bottle with water and roll it on the floor with your bare feet while watching TV or reading a book.

        To prevent flat feet, as already mentioned, it is very useful to walk on the ground without shoes. It is especially useful to walk barefoot, for example, over fir cones or small stones. Using the maximum number of treatment methods for flat feet, you can stop the development of the disease and eliminate the discomfort and pain that this disease has led to.

        Flat feet in adults: signs of the disease and treatment at home

        Flat feet are accompanied by deformation of the arch of the foot, decreased shock-absorbing properties, complications and unpleasant consequences. Normally, the foot has 2 arches: longitudinal and transverse. This structure allows you to evenly distribute the load on the foot and create shock absorption when walking.

        Flat feet can be congenital (as a result of skeletal abnormalities) or acquired (under the influence of diseases or the influence of external factors). There are several types of acquired flat feet:

        • static (often found in women, as a result of increased load on the feet);
        • rachitic (softening of the bones occurs as a result of rickets, the foot is deformed under the influence of load);
        • paralytic (caused by paralysis of the muscles of the leg and foot);
        • traumatic (as a result of bone fractures, damage to ligaments and muscles).
        • Static flatfoot occurs as a result of:

        • hereditary predisposition (in 3% of cases at birth, children exhibit symptoms of flat feet);
        • lifting weights, carrying them;
        • decreased elasticity of ligaments and muscles due to age-related changes;
        • lack of movement as a result of a sedentary lifestyle;
        • wearing uncomfortable shoes (tight, with a heel higher than 4 cm, with a narrow toe);
        • standing on your feet for a long time;
        • pregnancy, obesity.

        Characteristic symptoms

        The manifestation of flat feet depends on the degree of development: longitudinal is less common, characterized by a gradual change in the shape of the foot, unnoticeable to the patient:

      24. in grade 1, mild leg fatigue, discomfort, and slight swelling at the end of the day occur;
      25. at the 2nd degree, pain of varying intensity becomes constant, covers the ankles and legs, the gait becomes heavier;
      26. in the 3rd degree, intense pain in the foot and lower leg (sometimes appearing in the lower back), severe deformation of the foot, swollen foot joints, and difficulty walking in ordinary shoes.

      28. swelling of the feet in the evenings;
      29. rapid leg fatigue;
      30. painful sensations when pressing in the middle part of the foot;
      31. pain in the legs, ankles;
      32. difficulty in choosing shoes;
      33. the appearance of pain in the lumbar region;
      34. smoothing the longitudinal arch;
      35. inability to wear regular shoes.
      36. Transverse flatfoot is accompanied by an expansion of the forefoot and is characterized by:

      37. pain in the feet, which intensifies when walking;
      38. rapid fatigue;
      39. swelling of the feet;
      40. the appearance of corns at the base of the fingers, characteristic abrasions.
      41. Due to a decrease in the height of the transverse arch, the length of the foot decreases in the longitudinal direction and increases in the transverse direction. The load on the foot is distributed incorrectly (mainly on the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones).

        Treatment is aimed at getting rid of the clinical manifestations of flat feet and preventing further progression of the disease. Conservative treatment includes:

        Often the occurrence of transverse flatfoot in adults is provoked by a person’s prolonged stay on their feet, excess weight, including that arising during pregnancy, a sedentary lifestyle, injuries and fractures of the legs that the patient did not heal, as well as from elementary wear and tear of the bone apparatus in adults. In addition, frequent wearing of high-heeled shoes leads to a redistribution of the load from the heel to the transverse arch, which leads to its deformation and transverse flatfoot. Based on all of the above, it can be argued that the main cause of transverse flatfoot in adults is insufficient strength of the ligamentous apparatus.

        How to treat transverse flatfoot?

        Conservative treatment methods are aimed at suppressing pain, as well as reducing the rate of disease progression. In early and fairly mild forms, treatment uses special orthopedic insoles, which have special bolsters located on the inside of the shoe. In more advanced cases, when the foot deformity reaches significant levels, the patient is recommended to use special orthopedic shoes, custom-made, taking into account all the treatment recommendations of the orthopedic doctor.

        Among other things, conservative methods of treating transverse flatfoot also involve special physical exercises, massage procedures, warm baths that help relieve swelling of the legs and pain at home.

        Such treatment methods, even at home, make it possible to significantly improve a person’s quality of life, as well as reduce the rate of development of foot deformities, but this will not help cure the disease itself.

        In cases where flat feet still lead to hammertoe deformity of the middle fingers, the only effective treatment for the patient is surgery. Treatment of transverse flatfoot should be carried out immediately after confirmation of the diagnosis, and not be postponed.

        Surgical methods for the treatment of transverse flatfoot are carried out in case of significant pain in the limbs that cannot be eliminated with conservative methods at home. Surgical intervention involves the joints of the toes to eliminate the deviation of the first toe of the valgus type. It can act either as an independent intervention or as a component in the process of reconstructive surgery, which is aimed at normalizing the entire forefoot of the human foot. The most widely used procedure for the treatment of this disease is Shede's operation.

        The entire operation is carried out directly on the bone and ligamentous apparatus of the base of the legs. Most often, during this surgical intervention, a cartilaginous growth on the metatarsal bone, which is popularly referred to simply as a “bone,” is cut off. Such treatment methods allow the bone to straighten and keep the first toe in its usual straight position, which helps treat transverse flatfoot. At the end of the operation, the bone is fixed with a special tape. Despite the complexity of this operation, it is highly effective and in almost all cases makes it possible to completely cure the disease.

        Of course, there are cases when you have to re-treat the deformity, but this is the result of non-compliance with doctors’ recommendations and an irresponsible attitude towards your health.
