If possible, look at the object with one eye.
Having little drawing skill, it was difficult for me to draw.
You need to approach work with concentration. Otherwise, you end up with monkey paws and the lines crawl in different directions.
I wanted to fill the background with sayings about hands that are useful for the mind, but I didn’t look for them well and wrote down a children’s nursery rhyme. My daughter and I learned the name of fingers with this rhyme 20 years ago, and then two of my boys learned from it. So he goes with me through life. Maybe I’ll tell my grandchildren.
So this is where he belongs.
A thick and large finger went into the garden to pick plums.
A pointer from the threshold showed him the way.
The middle finger is the most accurate.
He knocks plums off the branch.
And the little gentleman plants seeds in the ground.
Wow! such real hands! very beautiful art spread with hands! and the poem is good, I didn’t know it :)
Now you can add a color like a blot and the theme will be complete :)
But for me, that’s exactly what I get: monkey paws :( and the lines go everywhere, especially if you close your eyes. It’s just a shame to post it.
Tanya (maybe Tanyusha)
Save-and-for-great! I'm so pleased!
I was also ashamed to post my first drawings. :)))
I practiced a little and it worked.
And most of all, I’m glad that the notebook is filled with drawings, and does not sit on the shelf idle.
So, get your act together. Sit back comfortably and slowly, stroke by stroke, get down to business, everything will work out.
Wow! How stunningly beautiful and realistic. It turned out sooooo great! I like it! Thank you for what you do with the blog. We draw! We scrape! We play!
I am very glad that I found your blog.
And I'm looking forward to the next tutorials. It's so great to have you.
Very healthy hands! Like real!
Undina, thank you! I'm coming to see your creations.
What an interesting idea and implementation! It turned out great, I really liked it!
And it really turned out cool!
Thank you, girls, I’ve already smeared it.
In general, it’s great to accompany your drawings with notes. Watch and read. A piece of life is no worse than photographs :)))
You can't tell from the drawings that you have little drawing skill. It turned out very artistic. ))) Tanya suggested correctly - the art page will also be smeared. )))
Thank you Tanya for the good idea, and to you for your kind comments and support.
How great it turned out! Now the spread in the art magazine is ready! Both the drawings and the poems are beautiful! Thank you for being with us, with our blog "Draw! Scrap! Play!"
Anna, thank you for always being there.
Thanks to your tasks, the desire to draw and create awakens. Thank you!
I like everything so much: the hand drawing, and the poems as a background! It’s so interestingly thought out. It’s clear that you care deeply about your drawings.
I don’t throw it away either, I put it in a file, it’s already so chubby.
The background is a tribute to scrapbooking, which I'm currently into.
The pens turned out great, no shadows, and they look so realistic, in my opinion, you draw great))))
I hid the drafts :))) So that no one would see.
And of course I tried my best in the notebook. It's a shame to spoil the pages :))).
Nice pens! It’s so interesting to draw the same thing collectively, everyone’s results are inimitable :)
Interesting and fun.
OOO! how beautiful.
Oh, Katya, I fell in love with your pets, there are so many amazing works in your art chest. Teddy bears and bunnies are so plush-plush-plush and touching. I want to hug you and not let you go.

Today, rarely does anyone pay attention to little things like a runny nose, headache or minor bruises. But at some point you still have to pay attention to your own feet. If your toe turns blue, this can indicate a great variety of different diseases, from diabetes to vascular pathology. But most often the reason is more trivial and simply consists of uncomfortable shoes or an injury to the lower limb. It is enough to replace the high heels with comfortable sneakers and the problem will disappear by itself. But sometimes this is not enough. It is imperative to understand the causes of this problem. Especially if your shoes haven’t been changed recently, and your toes have been turning blue recently.
There can be several reasons for the color change; below we will consider the main ones:
Whatever the reason for blue fingers, it will not be the only one. Most often, a bluish tint to the nail is accompanied by other characteristic signs:
Any disease indicated by a blue toe is easier to cure in the initial stages. If you leave everything as it is until the next sign appears, then the treatment may be more serious, longer and more expensive.
Ballerinas, gymnasts, hockey players, football players and many other athletes whose shoes are different from the usual ones are faced with blue fingers. You have to spend quite a lot of time in such unusual shoes, and changing them will not bring relief. Blueness of the foot or toes in this case may be due to long and diligent training.
This same risk group includes people who are given shoes at work. Often it is not very comfortable or does not suit the thickness or length of the foot at all, but there is no way to change it. This often happens in large factories and specialized enterprises that require fire-resistant shoes or ones that can withstand drops of acid.
The reason that the big toe on each foot turns blue may also lie in store-bought shoes. If it turns out that you recently purchased a pair of shoes that are a little tight and your toes are starting to turn blue from wearing them, then it is better not to continue wearing these shoes. Impaired blood circulation in the periphery of the fingers can lead to serious problems.
What to do if there was absolutely no injury, why do the fingers turn blue in this case? The answer here may be obvious if the patient wears specific shoes. This may primarily concern people whose profession is sports.
Why did my toe or hand turn blue? Sometimes the reason lies in diabetes, and a person may not be aware of serious problems in the body. While the patient does not take care of his feet, against the background of poor blood supply and constant stagnation of blood in the fingers, gangrene can begin, which even leads to amputation of the limbs.
If there is more than one blue finger, and all of them acquire a bluish tint from time to time, then you should consult a cardiologist. Pale and bluish tint to the skin around the nails may indicate poor peripheral circulation.
Vegetative-vascular dystonia can cause blueness or redness of the skin and all fingers due to circulatory and blood pressure disorders.
It is possible that copper accumulates in the body, which affects the central nervous system. In this situation, the fingers will also turn blue, most often on the toes.
In rare cases, a change in pigmentation of the nail plate or the entire finger may indicate the presence of cancer due to the fact that malignant cellular structures have melanocytes that spread throughout the body. And their pigment is precisely blue.
Other reasons include insufficient fluid intake. Such a simple reason leads to poor vascular conductivity and stagnation of blood elements. Low-quality food products consisting of chemical or synthetic substances can also cause a malfunction in the functioning of the entire body.
Of course, blueness of one finger or even all of them at once does not indicate a specific serious disease that can develop inside the body. But it is a kind of wake-up call that forces you to listen to the body, identify and solve a rather serious problem.
Sometimes it’s enough to think, and you immediately remember how your finger was injured just a day ago. As a result of the bruise, the fingers often turn blue, which goes away after a few days.
You can simply hit your finger on a bedside table, refrigerator, door frame. In such cases, if your toe turns blue, you don’t have to look for reasons, since everything is obvious.
Perhaps someone overweight stepped on their foot in public transport or a heavy object suddenly fell on their finger. There can be a lot of unpleasant situations, some of them are fraught with not just a bruise, but even a broken finger.
It is enough to sit down and think about whether you have recently experienced a sharp or aching dull pain as a result of an injury. Even a minor injury can cause your toe to turn blue.
Fungal diseases of the skin, hair, nails, and hands of humans are the most common among infectious diseases and one of the most difficult to treat. The fungus can cause not only visually noticeable changes in the skin and nail plates on the toes and fingers, but also disrupt the functioning of many organs and reduce local and general immunity. Statistics show that most patients seek treatment when they begin to be bothered by fungus on the big toe nail.
And this is understandable due to the anatomical structure of the thumb and nail plate; it is easier for pathogens to penetrate this area. At the same time, the large subungual space creates a favorable environment for the growth of a fungal colony. The toenail is surrounded by tissues in which there is an accumulation of small capillaries and nerve endings, so toenail fungus causes the most pain and discomfort. Unpleasant foot symptoms are aggravated by constant wearing of narrow, ill-fitting shoes.
Many types of different fungi are constantly present on the human body, but not all of them lead to the development of skin diseases, and some, on the contrary, are necessary to cleanse the skin of decay products. The fungus, which can cause diseases of the nails and toes (especially the big toes), is considered contagious and is transmitted from a sick person to a healthy one. And mostly this happens not through direct contact, but when using common hygiene items, as well as in public places - baths, swimming pools. The fungus loves a moist and warm environment, so the listed places are an ideal habitat for it. When walking barefoot, the fungus gets directly onto the foot and toes; its further penetration and development of the disease depends on the presence of the entrance gate and concomitant diseases.
Toenail fungus in a large number of cases is a complication of fungus of the fingers and toes, and as an independent disease it occurs quite rarely.
Penetration of the pathogen under the skin of the big toes and feet is facilitated by the presence of microcracks, calluses and abrasions. Such skin defects occur more often on the big toes and feet, and this is associated with the constant wearing of tight and poorly ventilated shoes. But even getting a fungus inside the leg does not always lead to illness - a healthy body with normal immunity is able to destroy the infection on its own. The following diseases lead to fungal infections of the big toes and toenails:
The state of the body’s defenses also plays an important role in the spread of fungal infections. In people with weakened immune systems, after suffering from acute or exacerbation of chronic diseases, fungus on the big toes and toenails occurs much more often than in completely healthy people.
Penetrating under the fingernails, the fungus chooses the subungual space as its attachment site, which contains the ideal nutrients necessary for its reproduction. The fungus under the toenails secretes special enzymes that destroy tissue and horny substance, thereby creating the space necessary for the growth of mycelium threads. In the first stages of development of microorganisms, external manifestations of the disease are almost invisible. There may be a slight burning sensation on the fingers, itching, and redness. With the growth of fungal colonies, the nail plate on the toes begins to change; it becomes brittle, dull, and yellowish or white spots and stripes appear. Often, the general condition of the body begins to suffer - allergic reactions, digestive system disorders appear, and symptoms of intoxication may be observed. This is due to the penetration of toxic substances secreted by the fungus into the human lymphatic system.
Patients with fungus do not always seek competent help from a specialist at the first stage of the disease, and sometimes they are forced to come to the doctor by an ingrown toenail due to a fungus.
This complication of the disease is associated with thickening of the nail plate on the big toes, as a result of which the nail begins to grow incorrectly, bend, curl and cut into the skin. Ingrown toenails create discomfort when walking, cause pain, and can provoke a secondary infectious process. In this case, swelling of the thumb appears, the skin turns red, and when pressing on the tip of the nail, pus may be released. The presence of ingrown toenails on the thumbs is especially dangerous in patients with diabetes mellitus - trophic ulcers and gangrene of the limb can become a complication in this case. Fungus and ingrown toenails usually affect the big toes, but there are cases when the disease affects other toes as well. When it grows into the skin, cutting the nail becomes difficult and this procedure can only be performed after first steaming the feet.
A nail that has grown into a long distance under the skin can be cured in only one way - surgically, that is, the nail plate on the toe is completely removed.
External changes in the nail plate of the big toes also depend on the type of fungus. Dermatophyte fungus appears as yellow stripes or spots in the center and along the edges of the nail plate. Yeast fungi begin their destructive activity from the sides of the nail plates of the fingers, while it gradually lags behind the bed and becomes yellowish. This type of fungus can penetrate into the fingernail fold, which becomes swollen and covered with silvery scales. Black nail fungus occurs due to molds that are the result of malnutrition of the toes. In turn, they provoke malnutrition in other skin and systemic diseases of the extremities and internal organs.
The approach to treating a disease is related to its stage; the more advanced the process, the more difficult it is to cure. Therefore, when the first symptoms appear on the feet, big toes and nails, it is important to promptly consult a dermatologist. At the initial stage, the destruction of the fingernail is almost unnoticeable, but already during this period you should be alerted by a change in the color of the nail at the very edge and the growth of the subungual space. The appearance of such symptoms is a reason to consult a doctor, who, based on the results of tests and scraping of the fingernail, will be able to make a correct diagnosis.
If a person at the initial stage did not pay due attention to the condition of the feet, hands, fingernails and did not carry out a course of treatment, then the fungus begins to grow further. The main symptoms of fungus at this time are thickening and discoloration of the nail. Nail fungus, the last stage, is characterized by complete destruction of the nail plate of the thumb, ingrown nails, discomfort, pain when walking and at rest, and secondary infection.
The duration and success of treatment of the big toe and the entire foot directly depends on the patient’s early visit to a medical facility and on the correct treatment. At the initial stage, in the absence of complications and concomitant diseases, the use of external agents - ointments, solutions with an active ingredient - can be an effective method of treatment. Quick healing of nails and toes also depends on correct identification of the pathogen, which can be done by taking cultures and scrapings for testing.
Fungus on the big toe nail requires a comprehensive approach to treatment and is mainly prescribed:
Modern antimycotic drugs are developed taking into account the least negative impact on internal organs, while, penetrating the nail plate of the finger, they remain active in the required concentration for a long period. Therefore, many of these drugs must be used in courses or once every few days. Treatment in the first stages can last up to 2-3 months, in advanced cases up to six months. Previously, such treatment could last more than one year, and the drugs used had a destructive effect on the liver and kidneys. The fungus on the toenail has turned black - such a symptom requires the identification of concomitant diseases, which also require the selection of symptomatic therapy.
Surgical intervention is used in the last stages of the development of the disease, and the doctor must treat the bed of the big toe nail with special solutions to ensure the destruction of the infection and the correct growth of the toenail. A more gentle method is also used - laser treatment. The choice of treatment method for fungal toenails should be selected by a doctor in each case. A quick recovery and the absence of side effects depends on his professionalism.
The toenail does not grow, fungus - this manifestation of infection after removal can occur due to weakened immunity. Typically, the growth of a new nail plate on a finger occurs within a year; if this has not happened during this time, you should consult your doctor.
Fungal disease of the feet and toenails is quite difficult to cure; this requires constant compliance with all doctor’s recommendations and taking prescribed medications. At the same time, not one person is immune from foot fungus - microorganisms develop quickly in any favorable conditions. Therefore, it is important to observe preventive measures and personal hygiene. Following the recommendations below can reduce the risk of fungus developing on the nails and on the entire surface of the foot:
In addition, the use of special antifungal solutions that can be used to lubricate the space between the toes and the entire foot will help prevent the development of infection (fungus of the big toe). Prevents the penetration of fungus on the feet and a professionally done pedicure.
I've had this for 3 days now. does not pass. I feel my fingers, I move them, it’s like numbness.
You won’t believe it! But I have the same thing! It’s been like this for a week now! I stood at work all day in my shoes, then at home I noticed that the tip of my big toe was just missing. It’s unpleasant, I’m just afraid of further consequences, they also tell me that I need to rub, do a massage and it will go away, but it doesn’t matter! And I’m ashamed to go to the doctor, I don’t know even how to explain it, and whether she will understand this problem. Now the wrong doctors have come.
I also have a numbness in my big toe from tight ballet shoes, and only one of them hasn’t gone away for a week now
I just read a doctor’s comment that it could be from an ingrown toenail.
Can anyone confirm this? I haven’t gone to a surgeon or a salon for a pedicure yet.
I already wrote here, I had the same problem. Everything went by itself))
My toe went numb after wearing heels. I’ve already steamed it, rubbed it, and bought a special ointment. But nothing happens. It's been like five days now. Guys, if someone has solved this problem, please tell me what you did for this and how long it took.
And it’s the same for me! (I walked around a lot on a trip in ballet shoes, I rubbed my toes, and then I felt that my toe seemed to be numb and numb. It’s been like this for three weeks now. I read about all this on the Internet and decided to start doing exercises!) Indeed, a week has already passed and my fingers have begun to return to normal!) In general, it helped me that I stretched my body!)
I went to the doctor - he said that it will go away on its own, the main thing is to create the conditions - not to walk a lot, comfortable shoes, etc. I also said I’m getting married, because I’m asking about such “issues.”
All the same ! My left big toe is numb! Do you really have to give up stilettos?
Bend your finger to the maximum with your hand and hold it for 10-15 minutes, everything will go away
I naively believed that I was so individually numb. And here half the country has my diagnosis. I read somewhere “Feet must be loved” - I’m sitting, loving, taking off my sandals and doing a massage at work. For a week my poor little finger hasn’t felt a thing. I'm thinking about poking him with a needle. but it's a pity. I made an appointment for a back massage. All problems with limbs are from her. If a finger comes out of coma, I’ll let you know.
Any numbness is a spinal problem, first go to a neurologist, then to a chiropractor and everything will be fine! Don't pull, otherwise it will pinch.
a week ago I ran for a whole day in terribly tight new ballet shoes, the skin on my toe became numb, like everyone else - the right side of the big toe of my left foot. I poked it with a needle - the skin doesn’t feel it, but deeper it hurts. I thought it would go away with time, but today it’s getting worse - the numbness has gone down to the ball of the foot along the entire side, and somehow it’s felt unpleasantly throughout the entire leg. I don’t know what to do, we don’t have doctors, one might say.
I wanted to make a bridge yesterday... but today the top of my big toe on my left foot is numb... I've been like this all day. I'm afraid..
It’s scary how many of us there are, with a numb big toe on our left foot)))
I cured it with one session of Thai foot massage.
It’s terrible how many of us there are! My second toe on my right foot is numb. I decided it was after wearing flip flops for two weeks. Tomorrow I'm going to make an appointment for a massage.
There is only one way out... Stop wearing shoes. ))
Yesterday the same problem happened to me. I thought that the ballet flats were wearing out, but then the ballet flats did not, and the toes on both feet were numb (more on the right than on the left). This morning I woke up, and it seemed to me that there seemed to be an area of numb skin less, I think it should go away slowly.
I wear clogs a lot, apparently something was compressed and now part of the big toe on my left foot doesn’t feel anything at all.
I will try the methods that have been written here, if it works, I will write about the success.
I got out of the shower and felt numbness in the finger next to the big one, and it’s been like this for the 3rd day, also after tight shoes, there were numbness in 3 toes from medium to large, now only 1 toe next to the pain is scary and on the right foot there seems to be an incomprehensible sensation on the big toe that there is a slight numbness but it is not clear whether it is there or not yesterday
Now they had 3 fingers except the little finger and thumb
endarteritis your diagnosis
The reason is already clear shoes.
My fingers went numb from tight ballet shoes, and it went away in about a month, now I’m alive and happy)
A few years ago, due to tight shoes, I chafed my little toes. They were both speechless. On the left leg it went away over time, but on the right leg there remained an unpleasant feeling of numbness, and besides, the swelling still does not go away. It’s not a pleasant feeling, it’s terrible. Especially when you wear uncomfortable shoes, it immediately gets worse. Trouble, in a word. I've been to the doctor for a long time. He didn’t prescribe anything, he said to change his shoes, and that’s it. Although, it seems to me that there should be some kind of treatment here.
I work as an installer of plastic windows in boots from morning to evening, and the leather on my feet is constantly numb; the leather on my right finger, the left side, a little later on the left finger, the right side, I have to go to the doctor once for work. I rub it, I warm it up, there’s no use, I don’t know what to do, I’m slowly starting to get used to it for like 2 weeks
It took me only three days, after spending 11 hours in Italian boots, which at the end of the day tightly squeezed my ankle. Then the second and third toes on the right foot became numb, and only the second toe on the left foot. My husband helped and massaged my lower back and back. It took a little while longer, otherwise I thought that was it, my fingers wouldn’t feel anything anymore.
Oooh..I feel even worse. It hurts. You can stick a needle inside, and there are black dots there. I looked on the Internet and they talk about some kind of larvae. Help me, what should I do?
My leg is numb in the feet, what should I do for 3 days now, it’s not going away :(
I came home from the store in the cold, my feet were frozen. I came to lie on my stomach and watch TV, an hour later my toes became numb, they looked like Raynaud’s disease, I’m 14 years old. What is this? Is it Raynaud’s disease or just resting?
Ladies, my attending physician said that this is related to the lower back, you need to stretch it well, or even better, sign up for a massage! I haven’t had time to stretch it myself yet, but I hope everything goes well!
Numbness in fingers and feet is in the lower back. I have a hernia in my lower back. run to the hospital. I have been undergoing treatment for ***** week, the numbness does not go away.
Thank you for your advice and for writing about your problem. I have the same thing: the right side of the big toe on my left foot became numb after wearing new ballet shoes. But after reading it I calmed down a little. I hope everything goes away soon!
The doctor explained to me that if my big toe is numb, then it is a pinched vertebra in the lumbar region. Girls, treat your spine.
this is an intervertebral herniation in the lumbar region, the root presses on the nerve or touches it, you need to take an M.R.T picture about your doctor, a neuropathologist, only to him, massage is not needed, wasted money, you need: vitamin B, B6, B12, you can tingle nicotine, or melgamma, and if it’s really bad, then Movalis injections, or 5-10 droppers should be prescribed by a neurologist, exactly what medications will be included for you, you don’t need to go to the hospital, you can in the hospital, but in general, more precisely, everything will be told to you right away after the MRI image, even you will read your diagnosis and understand everything.
Girls, shoes have nothing to do with it, alcohol and smoking too. Either something with the heart, or with the spine, or a mini-stroke. In any case, the matter is serious, for no reason at all, 2 toes on my right foot became numb, first the second one, and then the big one, it gradually took over, the feeling was disgusting, so they sent me to a neurologist.
Hi all. Same problem. I can’t feel my finger for 2 weeks. I haven’t gone to the doctor yet;) but my lower back hurts.. I’ll report back.
Me too, I wore tight shoes all day. And I’ve been numb for 2 days now. I hope there won't be gangrene. So, it doesn’t seem to interfere.
My big toe on my left foot is also numb. The doctors said they don’t know what it is. I went to a therapist, a neurologist, and a surgeon. No one knows what it is.
Almost all of my toes on both feet are whitish, and the big ones are also blue like a corpse. It started 3 days ago from the little toe on the left foot, isn’t it dangerous? On the second day I was walking and felt like my leg was going numb, like during sleep, sometimes in the heels or along the foot
I walked at a wedding, danced a lot in not very large heels, then changed to other sandals without heels (the shoes were all new, but they weren’t tight). I drank alcohol, on the second day after the wedding I felt a numb, tingling sensation in the big toe of my left foot in the upper part to the right.
I have a similar situation with many girls.. I walked for about 8 hours in ballet shoes, after which the skin on the big toe of my left foot (on the right side under the nail) became numb. Sometimes it seems to me that the blood is rushing again, I touch my finger and it seems to be easier, but then it starts again. I’ll probably start doing exercises in the morning, take vitamins B, B6, B12 (as they wrote here before). Well, if it doesn’t go away in a month, or a complication develops...pah-pah-pah)...Then I’ll see a doctor. Good luck everyone!
Christina, I have the same story!! Today is the second day that three toes on my left leg and calf are tingling. did it pass for you?
The same story. I was at a wedding, walked for more than 12 hours in new shoes, in the morning I fell asleep, and both big toes were numb (left on the right side, right, respectively, on the left). It's already the fifth day. I hope it will pass.
Guys, the tip of the big toe on my right foot on the left side has been numb for about 20 days now, about 20 days ago I worked as a waiter in 2 shifts, slept only 5 hours, wore shoes, I don’t know what to do anymore? ?? Has anyone had the same situation?? And whoever solved this problem, please respond! Thanks in advance.
Also, because of the new ballet shoes, part of the big toe of my left foot became numb, I went to the therapist, took a picture of my feet, donated blood for uric acid, everything turned out to be fine. They sent me to a neurologist, the neurologist sent me to an orthopedist, the orthopedist said that this is normal at my age))))))) (I’m 29 years old) and prescribed orthopedic insoles. That’s all the treatment, the finger has been numb for almost 4 months, sometimes it hurts.
uncomfortable ballet shoes, they put a lot of pressure on my foot, my big toe went numb, it was like this for 4 days, I was in panic, I called my mom (she’s a doctor) she told me to steam my foot in hot water for 3-4 minutes, then lie down straight and raise my legs above my head so that the blood drains out them. then steam, then into cold water (also 3-4) minutes, then over your head (time too) and so on for about half an hour.
I started to feel my finger.
girls, I already thought it was all over..
how happy I am!
And after breaking my palm, the ring finger on my left hand became numb.
Damn, my big toe on my left foot has been numb for about 2 months now. Tell me what to do

Painful or painless, itchy or not, a swollen big toe can be caused by a number of reasons. The article discusses the main ones, as well as symptoms and methods of treating swelling on the big toe.
Typically, swelling in the big toe area can be very painful and irritating. May be accompanied by redness, itching, inflammation and other symptoms. Some causes are specific to a certain gender or age.
“This is a painful condition in which the nail grows or cuts into both or one side of the nail bed.” [Disabled-world.com]. This is a common problem that usually occurs in toenails, but can also occur in fingernails.
An ingrown toenail can promote bacterial infections. The area may become red, itchy, and warm if not treated properly. The causes of this problem are improper cutting of nails, wearing tight shoes, and foot injuries. Sometimes this condition becomes chronic and is accompanied by pain in the big toe, infection, irritation, redness, fever and swelling.
Antiseptics and antibiotics can be used for treatment. Sometimes surgery may be performed to remove a corner, most or all of the nail plate. It is also a good idea to purchase comfortable shoes that are the appropriate size.
The sesamoid bone is a bone attached to a tendon. It occurs in several joints of the body. In the foot it is located under the big toe and helps it move normally while walking, running, jumping.
Therefore, injuries may be related to the tendons, bone, and surrounding tissues in the joint. Any activity that increases pressure in the foot can lead to such an injury and therefore pain in the toe joint. Throwing heavy objects with your toes, running, football, and high-heeled shoes are risk factors. Types of damage:
The problem can be avoided by exercising, taking care of your feet, using good quality comfortable shoes, and avoiding walking long distances and running on uneven surfaces.
Painkillers may be used to relieve joint pain. Physical treatments and surgery may also be recommended depending on the cause.
Gout is another common cause of a swollen big toe, but can also affect other toes. In this condition, uric acid crystals accumulate in the joint spaces, leading to periodic inflammation.
Normally, the kidneys take care of filtering and removing uric acid, but sometimes they cannot perform this function properly, especially when the body produces too much of it.
The accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joint will lead to gout symptoms such as severe pain in the toe joint, redness, fever, inflammation, tenderness and swelling of the feet.
Causes of gout include foods high in purines, genetics, certain medications, and obesity.
This condition can be treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, and ice therapy. Colchicine can also be used, but it has several side effects. It is a good idea to avoid gout-causing foods.
This is a common type of arthritis that can affect any joint in the body. Occurs when the cartilage in a joint wears down or becomes damaged, causing the bones to become exposed and rub against each other, causing pain and swelling in the legs, limiting range of motion. “The risk of developing osteoarthritis increases with age” [Healthline.com].
Factors such as obesity, poor diet, injury, abnormal blood sugar levels and excessive exercise can lead to this condition.
Treatments include special custom-made insoles, braces, and canes. Steroid injections are sometimes recommended. Stretching and exercises will also be helpful.
Surgical procedures may be used to remove damaged cartilage and secure the joint in a permanent position.
This inflammation causes the first joint of the big toe to tilt outward and therefore tends to misalign the second and third toes. According to Footcare.org, “A bunion is a misalignment of the joints of the big toe, which can become swollen and tender, causing the first joint of the big toe to tilt outward and the second joint to angle toward the other toes.”
The condition sometimes tends to be hereditary, but can also occur when wearing narrow, tight shoes.
Brucite can cause enlargement and protrusion of the metatarsophalangeal joint. Redness and sensitivity of the skin may occur. Other symptoms include swelling and severe pain in the legs, which may cause difficulty walking.
Typically, bunions are treated with wider, softer shoes and pressure-relieving pads. When this is ineffective, bunionectomy surgery may be recommended to repair the bone, ligaments, tendons and nerves.
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood is too high. It provokes peripheral vascular disease and diabetic neuropathy. These two conditions can cause diabetic ulcers, infections, gangrene (dead tissue due to improper blood circulation), Charcot arthropathy, and amputation.
Symptoms of a swollen big toe in diabetes include big toe pain, tingling sensation, warmth, discoloration and swelling.
Treatment for diabetes includes gastric bypass surgery, insulin injections, exercise and a special diet.
Narrowing of the arteries limits the amount of blood and oxygen reaching the legs. It can also cause the big toe to swell, but doctors say it's usually not painful.
Consuming fatty foods may contribute to this condition, in which case a proper diet can help. The doctor may prescribe medications to treat vascular problems.
They are raised protective layers that grow on the skin. They most often occur on the little finger, but can also form on the thumb. They are aggravated by tight, narrow shoes, and their risk increases with age.
Wider, softer boots should be worn, but severe cases may require surgical intervention.
Symptoms may be mild, while others may be very severe to the point where walking may become a problem.
Your doctor may ask questions about your main symptoms, daily activities, and medical care. These questions really help to conduct a diagnostic test to determine the causes.
The doctor may do a physical examination and ask for blood tests to look for certain conditions, such as gout or infections.
X-rays, MRI and CT scans may also be recommended if a fracture or tissue damage is suspected. Correct diagnosis is the key to successful treatment.
If a painless swelling is left untreated, it may become painful over time. Common causes of this condition include knee drainage, diabetes, calluses and corns.
Calluses that are not painful may begin to hurt when you put on shoes. Swollen toes, painful or non-painful, should be properly treated.
Some causes of osteoarthritis will become more severe as you age. And such as calluses and corns are more common in women than in men.
Gout, for example, which is the main cause of swelling of the big toe, is known to vary depending on age and gender. According to Foot-pain-explored.com, “Men tend to suffer from this condition at a younger age than women due to higher uric acid levels. After menopause, increased uric acid levels in women increase the risk of the disease, and only 15% of women suffer from this disease before menopause."
Swelling due to injury or fracture is more common among people under 35 years of age as they often engage in risky activities such as sports, long distance walking, running, etc.
Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the swelling. There are various medications that can be used, such as pain relievers such as ibuprofen (relieves mild pain and inflammation).
You may also get relief from wider, softer shoes, insoles, and a technique known as RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation). This method is effective only for mild cases. For moderate to severe swelling, the following non-surgical methods may be used:
Below are some tips to help you prevent this problem:
A swollen big toe is usually not life-threatening, but it can also be a sign of serious medical conditions, including those that are seriously life-threatening if you don't get early medical attention. Therefore, you should consult a doctor immediately if your leg swelling is not caused by a minor injury.
