Almost any type of human activity involves fine motor skills, so inflammation of the joints of the fingers is a common disease. Arthritis of the upper extremities is a rapidly developing disease that not only immobilizes the hands, but significantly worsens the quality of life, depriving a person of the opportunity to work and perform basic household activities. First of all, the inflammatory process affects the interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joints. It is important to identify the causes of the problem in the early stages and promptly begin treatment.
Joint damage is caused by the following pathologies and factors:
Carpal tunnel syndrome is an inflammation of peripheral nerve endings that causes prolonged aching pain and numbness in the little fingers.
Inflammation of the joint of the fingers on the hands manifests itself as stiffness in the area of the affected organ, a decrease in the amplitude of movement, as well as swelling and redness of the skin. The temperature rises, the contour of the joint changes, due to the formation of Heberden's nodes. This is a form of deforming arthritis that affects the back of the index and middle fingers. Rheumatoid arthritis, which most often affects the hand, usually manifests itself symmetrically. Rhysarthritis is a pathology exclusively of the thumb joint. At each of the 4 stages of arthritis, the inflamed organ reacts differently, as shown in the table:
Arthritis of the fingers has characteristic symptoms and an arthrologist or rheumatologist can suspect it in the early stages. During the initial examination, the relationship with acute and chronic diseases of the patient, the symmetry of the affected joints, the intensity of pain and their nature, the presence of deformation of joints and cartilage, and other clinical signs are analyzed.
However, to clarify the extent of pathological changes, a set of additional diagnostic studies is necessary:
Only a timely and comprehensive approach to the problem will ensure the effectiveness of therapy and restore full mobility to the fingers. Traditional methods effectively complement the treatment of hand joints with folk remedies. At the first stage of pathology, non-traditional methods are used as the main therapy.
Already at stage 2 of arthritis, folk remedies alone will not be enough if the joint is already inflamed and very painful. Initially, inflammation of the ligaments is relieved with the help of NSAIDs, analgesics and muscle relaxants. Depending on the intensity of pain, you can limit yourself to external ointments (“Dolgit”, “Diclofenac”, “Fastum-gel”).
If infectious arthritis is diagnosed, a course of antibiotics is prescribed, and for the rheumatoid form, which most often affects the joints of the hands, immunomodulators are prescribed. If there is inflammation of the joints during late-stage arthritis, a puncture may be required to remove fluid from the joint capsule and injections of corticosteroids, as well as hemocorrection (blood filtration). At any stage of the disease, the use of chondroprotectors is indicated. It should be remembered that these drugs have a cumulative effect and are prescribed for at least six months.
The number of repetitions is 6-12 times, depending on the general condition of the joints and pain in them. You should also consult your doctor to choose the optimal list of exercises. Gymnastics is performed daily in the morning and evening. Despite the apparent simplicity and ease of the exercises, it is very effective and over time the joints are developed, the amplitude of movements increases, and stagnation processes decrease.
The purpose of the procedures is to normalize metabolic processes in the affected joints, stimulate joint regeneration and restore hand function. Please note that physiotherapy is prescribed only in the remission stage and is selected individually. These include the following procedures:
Professional massage treatments are the most effective methods of pain relief. Such manipulations improve blood circulation, thereby enriching the damaged joint with oxygen and nutrients. The massage begins with light stroking, then moves on to more intense actions, including rubbing and kneading. All manipulations are carried out from the periphery to the center, separately for each finger. Complete the procedure by lightly tapping with your fingertips and shaking off.
Folk remedies for treating joints such as compresses have proven themselves to be effective. The following substances and products are used as a basis:
Alcohol rubs made from elecampane, birch buds, or based on honey, iodine and glycerin are easy to use due to their rapid absorption. “Pharmacy cocktail” - an alcohol tincture with the addition of analgin, camphor alcohol and iodine - is an excellent pain reliever and also helps relieve inflammation. Apple cider vinegar and even regular table vinegar can also serve as a good remedy for rubbing into a sore joint.
When dealing with finger joint disease, proper diet plays an important role. The diet must include lean fish, rabbit and turkey meat, veal, yellow and green vegetables, vegetable oil (flaxseed and olive in priority), nuts and seeds, ginger and turmeric, and fermented milk products. It is necessary to drink enough water to remove excess salts.
During the day there should be 3 main meals and 3 snacks. Overeating and starvation should not be allowed.
But the consumption of the following products should be limited:

The main preventive measure for arthritis of the fingers will be a healthy lifestyle and giving up bad habits. It is necessary to exclude alcohol, excessive consumption of strong coffee and tea. If fine motor skills are involved in the work process, be sure to take a break every 2 hours and do finger exercises. You should also avoid hypothermia and injuries to the hands, and promptly consult a doctor at the first signs of illness. It is especially important to prevent inflammation from becoming chronic.
If a person has arthritis of the fingers, he will definitely need treatment with folk remedies. This therapy will allow you to effectively get rid of the symptoms of the disease. In addition, recipes from the past will not harm the body, since they are based on natural ingredients.
There are a huge number of external medications to treat arthritis of the joints. This list includes the use of baths, rubbing and compresses. Clay applications and baths are very effective. Green and blue clay are best suited for such procedures, since they effectively relieve inflammation, have an analgesic effect, and also relieve swelling. You can use baths with salted water and clay, as well as special applications. They are made in this way: clay cakes are placed on the affected area, covered with a plastic bag and wool. You need to keep this application for 3 hours.
The important point is to thoroughly rinse off the clay and not use it a second time.
Fir oil, which is used for baths, will also help cure arthritis. The therapy method is suitable for people suffering from hand pain. To carry out this procedure, you need to pour non-hot water into a basin, add 7-8 drops of oil and immerse your hands. You need to sit in this position for 12 minutes, remove your hands and rub fir oil diluted with a neutral cosmetic cream (1:1) into the affected joints. The course of such therapy is 10 - 14 days. If you have a chronic disease, you will need to carry out such baths throughout the year.
A sage bath will help relieve inflammation perfectly. You need to take 20 tbsp. l. dried herbs, add 5 liters of boiled water, leave for 2 hours, then strain and pour into a warm bath. This procedure must be carried out for 12 minutes daily, then take a break for 5 - 7 days and repeat the bath.
Horseradish root and radish are used as lotions, which are used alternately. First, the affected areas need to be lubricated with cream, grated horseradish applied to them, and insulated on top with a gauze bandage, cotton wool and a plastic bag. You need to keep this compress for at least 3 hours. The next day, this procedure is carried out using radish. To enhance the effect, it is mixed with 15 g of salt, 150 g of honey and 100 g of vodka.
It is recommended to apply sea salt heated in the oven to the affected areas of the hands. Cotton wool is placed on top of the substance and cotton gloves are put on. This compress should be kept for 60 minutes, after which you will need to rub the joints using fir oil (5 drops per hand). Oatmeal is used as a compress. They need to be boiled, cooled, soaked in the mixture, and applied to the affected area. Place the film on top, then cotton wool and also put on gloves. You need to keep this lotion for an hour.
In addition, the following recipes for compresses are used:
Such methods of treating finger joints effectively relieve pain and stop the inflammatory process.
Treatment for arthritis of the fingers at home is often carried out by taking medications orally. A drink made from calendula helps very well, since this plant has an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect. To prepare this remedy, you need to take 2 tbsp. l. flowers of the plant, brew them in a thermos and leave for 15 minutes. You need to take the medicine 250 ml 3 times a day.
A drink made from dried lingonberry leaves is considered very useful. You need to take 2 tbsp. l. crushed plant, pour boiling water (0.5 l), boil for 15 minutes, then strain and take 100-150 ml 3 times a day. Pumpkin milk is a good help in getting rid of arthritis. It is necessary to peel 20 seeds of the fruit, fill them with warm water (500 ml), leave for 10 hours, and after swelling, strain the preparation. Next, you need to grind the seeds in a blender and pour milk into the pulp. Then the mixture should be divided into 2 parts: take the first in the morning, and 2 - 3 hours after the evening meal - the second. This therapy should last for 14 days, only a fresh mixture is made daily.
In order for arthritis of the hands to disappear, treatment should be carried out in parallel with taking vitamin food. For example, carrot and celery juice mixed in a 1:1 ratio is very useful. Drinking the drink requires 100 g three times a day, 30 - 45 minutes before meals. Drinking chamomile tea is considered beneficial. You need to take 10 g of plant flowers, pour 200 g of boiling water over them, and leave to steep for 35 minutes. Then the drink should be consumed three times a day, 10 g per dose.
It is recommended to drink the water in which the potatoes were boiled every day on an empty stomach. In addition, you can eat 2 raw potatoes, but grate them first. Garlic tincture is considered very useful. You need to take 5 medium heads of vegetables, peel, chop, and then pour in 0.5 liters of vodka. This mixture should be placed in a warm and dark place for 10-12 days. After the specified time has passed, it is allowed to take the tincture 30 minutes before eating. The frequency of administration is three times a day.
Another medicinal drug is based on rowan fruits. You need to take 1 tbsp. l. berries, pour boiled water over them and leave for 30 minutes. The medicine should be taken 3-4 times a day, 0.5 cups.
Another remedy is prepared from pine buds. You need to take 1 tsp. of such a substance, pour 500 ml of boiled water, leave for 2 hours, then strain and consume 1 tbsp 3 times a day. l. This drug speeds up metabolism and has a good anti-inflammatory effect.
A tasty and healthy remedy is lemon, honey and celery root. You need to take 0.5 kg of fruit, the same amount of celery, then grind them in a blender, add 500 g of beekeeping product. The mass must be mixed, placed in a refrigeration device, and after 4 - 6 days the medicine can be eaten 3 times a day, 1 tbsp. l.
How to treat arthritis of the fingers with herbs? There are a large number of therapy methods based on the use of medicinal plants:
Traditional recipes will help to effectively relieve arthritis of the joints of the fingers, but note that before using them you need to consult a specialist. The attending physician must approve a particular drug.
Joints perform an important function in the human body; they provide movement and flexibility of the limbs and spine. Cartilage tissue is quite soft and is easily damaged by injuries and exposure to various negative factors on the body; for this reason, inflammation of the joints of the fingers occurs.
The joints of the fingers become inflamed quite often, especially in people who do small work with their hands, due to increased stress. Pain and inflammation can lead to loss of movement in the affected joint, so it is very important to see a specialist as soon as possible and begin treatment.
Inflammation of the joints of the fingers can occur for a variety of reasons; let’s look at the most common causes:
Most often, older people are susceptible to the disease, as age-related changes occur in the joints of the entire body. Salts are deposited in the joints, the nutrition of the cartilage is reduced, and as a result, they are gradually destroyed. In young people, large joints are more likely to suffer, as they experience greater physical stress.
Inflammation of the thumb joint can occur due to the following diseases:
Inflammation of the thumb is accompanied by redness of the skin around the joint, swelling and pain. Depending on the type of pathology and stage of the disease, symptoms may be expressed to a greater or lesser extent.
So, with arthritis, the pain is aching, intensifies during movement and becomes constant over time, but with gout, the finger becomes like a sausage, turns red and hurts unbearably.
Most often, inflammation of the thumb or middle finger occurs; the ring finger suffers less often, this is due to the peculiarities of its structure and low physical activity. So, with rheumatoid arthritis, the disease usually affects the middle and index fingers, and with deforming arthrosis, the thumb.
Inflammation of the ring finger can occur with polyarthritis, in which case the disease affects several joints on both hands. Infectious arthritis, which also causes multiple lesions of the joints of the fingers, can also provoke pain. The ring finger can become inflamed due to a bruise if the joint is injured and its function is impaired.
Inflammation of the joint of the phalanx of the finger is a serious pathology that requires mandatory consultation with a specialist. The doctor will conduct an examination, order x-rays, take blood tests, and make an accurate diagnosis.
Treatment for inflammation of the joints of the fingers is prescribed differently, it all depends on the diagnosis, but the therapy is always complex and long-term. The patient is prescribed the necessary medications, immobilization of the sore finger, and physiotherapeutic treatment. After relieving pain and inflammation, it is recommended to maintain a healthy lifestyle and engage in physical therapy.
Let's look at what medications are prescribed for inflammation of the fingers:
Externally, you can use an ointment for inflammation of the fingers with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, for example, Diclofenac. It will help relieve swelling and pain faster, and also speed up recovery.
During the period of exacerbation of the disease, it is recommended not to put stress on the diseased joints; in severe cases, the doctor may even apply a plaster cast to completely immobilize the joint.
After relieving pain and inflammation, it is necessary to perform special therapeutic exercises for the hands in order to develop the joints and improve blood circulation in them. It is recommended to perform exercises throughout your life, and not just during treatment, as a prevention of relapse. In parallel with exercise therapy, it is recommended to massage your fingers every day.
It is not recommended to treat joint inflammation at home, but if the disease takes you by surprise, you can try to relieve inflammation using traditional medicine recipes or pharmaceutical ointments with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. But it is worth remembering that such treatment is symptomatic; it will not get rid of the cause of the disease, but will only alleviate the condition for a while.
In case of gout, when the finger is swollen, red and unbearably painful, you need to apply cold to it. An ice compress will ease the condition and relieve swelling. For the compress to be effective, you need to place your hand on a pillow just above the shoulder, relax it, and apply ice wrapped in a clean cloth on top for 10 minutes. Then take a break for 10 minutes and repeat the procedure.
Warm salt baths, as well as baths with mineral waters, are good for pain in the joints of the hands. At home, you can do simple salt baths every evening; to do this, you need to dilute sea salt in hot water, pour the solution into a basin and dilute with cold water. Place your hands in the bath for 15 minutes, and after the procedure, lightly massage your hands with nourishing cream.
Compresses with herbal decoctions, such as chamomile, string, sage or comfrey, will help relieve joint inflammation. These plants have an excellent analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. To prepare a compress, the herb is brewed in boiling water and left for 2 hours, then filtered. Soak a clean cloth in the decoction and wrap it around the sore hands for 3-4 hours.
Another simple but effective remedy that will help reduce joint inflammation overnight is a leaf of white cabbage. The leaves need to be washed, crushed so that they release juice, and wrapped around sore fingers, and secured with a bandage on top, but not too tightly. Leave the compress overnight, the pain will decrease in the morning.
To prevent inflammation of the fingers, the following recommendations must be followed:
A correct lifestyle and timely consultation with a doctor will help keep your joints healthy for many years, as well as avoid serious complications and disability.
For infectious pathologies, the prescription of antibiotics is mandatory; gout will require the use of drugs that reduce the amount of uric acid in the blood.
Arthritis in the joints of the fingers is an inflammatory disease of the articular or periarticular tissue. Under the influence of inflammation, the cartilage tissue of the joint becomes thinner, becomes pliable and gradually collapses.
Antibiotics are the first of all medications prescribed. The usual course of therapy can last from 14 to 30 days and depends on the type of infection and the severity of the observed case. There is no alternative to antibiotic treatment.
Rheumatoid arthritis of the fingers begins due to disruptions in the immune system, when the body's cells begin to attack and reject the cartilage tissue of the joints, perceiving it as a foreign body. It is impossible to cure rheumatoid arthritis in the fingers; the patient is prescribed lifelong drug therapy, which slows down the development of the pathological process.
With gout, disturbances in metabolic processes are observed, as a result of which large amounts of uric acid accumulate in the blood.
Rheumatoid arthritis is an incurable autoimmune disease. The main distinguishing feature of the pathology is its symmetry. If the joints on the left hand are affected, then similar changes necessarily occur on the right hand.
Treatment of arthritis of the finger joints with folk remedies in the case of the rheumatoid form cannot be effective. To stop the rapid progression of the disease and tissue destruction, it is necessary to take special antirheumatic drugs. But with the help of herbal tinctures and other methods of traditional medicine, you can effectively combat the symptoms of pathology.
All clinical manifestations of arthritis, depending on their etiology, are described in the international classification of diseases. Depending on the manifestations of the disease and factors preceding its development, a code according to ICD 10 is assigned. The international classification allows the rheumatologist to select the most effective therapy.
X-rays can show deforming changes in the early stages, when they are still invisible during visual inspection.
After determining the type of arthritis, the patient is prescribed drug therapy. It has several goals:
Good results, especially with diabetes, can be achieved with homeopathy. Provided proper therapy is prescribed, normal synthesis of substances is restored.
Surgical treatment of the affected joints of the fingers may be required for purulent arthritis if the infection continues to spread after a course of antibiotics.
Patients are recommended to regularly undergo preventive treatment in a sanatorium, this will reduce the likelihood of recurrence of the disease.
Effective treatment of arthritis of the thumb or any other joint is possible only in a specialized institution. But at home, you can provide first aid and reduce debilitating pain.
If allergic arthritis is observed, ointments should be used with caution, having previously passed an allergy test for the active components included in the composition. Therapy for allergic arthritis of the fingers is complicated by the fact that some antibiotics, which are extremely necessary for this diagnosis, will also cause a severe attack of allergies.
Traditional medicine also provides many useful recipes in the fight against the disease. Using non-traditional methods, you can effectively combat the symptomatic manifestations of arthritis; in addition, some herbs effectively relieve inflammation and regulate metabolism. You can use the following recipes:
All folk remedies can only be used as a preventive and temporary measure. To avoid unpleasant consequences in the early stages of the development of arthritis in the joint tissues of the fingers, you should seek specialized help.
Fingers play a huge role in the life of every person; without them we cannot cope with any work. When inflammation of the joints of the fingers occurs, their mobility is limited, impaired, and severe pain appears. What are the reasons for this condition? How can you help yourself?
How often do people think about what role their fingers play in their lives? But they are the most important “helpers” in any work. When inflammation occurs in the joints of the fingers, their mobility is impaired, and each manipulation brings severe pain. Doing any work causes suffering and disrupts the usual way of life . What are the reasons for this condition? And how can you help yourself?
Inflammation of the synovium is a key element in the pathogenesis of arthritis
The term “arthritis” translates as “inflammation of a joint,” and fingers are no exception.
Severe deformation of the hand as a result of advanced arthritis appears when seeking medical help is delayed
The synovial membrane plays a key role in maintaining normal joint function. By producing synovial fluid, it participates in the trophism of hyaline cartilage. Dysfunction leads to the appearance of pathological effusion (purulent, serous, hemorrhagic) into the joint cavity. The nutrition of the cartilage is disrupted, cracks appear, which increase with constant load. The result is destruction of the joint, deformation of the hand.
There are septic and aseptic inflammation of the joints of the fingers.
Septic arthritis is called arthritis of bacterial, viral, fungal or protozoal etiology. Most often its causes are:
In aseptic cases, the reasons may be:
The clinical picture is accompanied by general and local manifestations.
Local manifestations always accompany the pathological process
Common ones include:
Note. The severity of these symptoms depends on the individual state of the body.
Local manifestations are accompanied by:
Remember! The younger the person’s age, the faster and stronger the clinical picture increases.
With arthrosis, deformation of the thumb develops early
Bursitis leads to impaired movement in the joint (smooth gliding, shock absorption of movements)
Tendinitis (1) and tendovaginitis (2) most often occur as a result of traumatic injuries to the hand
Advice: To determine the cause of pain and difficulty moving your fingers, you should consult a doctor.
Treatment of inflammation of the joints of the fingers combines the following principles:
The therapy is complex and includes drug and non-drug treatment.
The patient is prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac, acetylsalicylic acid). They allow you to quickly and effectively relieve pain, reduce swelling and reduce the inflammatory response.
If there is no effect from this therapy, intra-articular administration of hormones (for an aseptic process) or antibiotics (for a bacterial process) is prescribed. This procedure is carried out in a hospital .
To improve cartilage nutrition, medications containing chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine are prescribed.
At the end of the acute period, physiotherapeutic and manual treatment is prescribed. It includes:
Note: If severe pain occurs, it is necessary to reduce the force of the blow.
Next, each hand in turn should perform a passive massage of the second hand. Start with circular movements in the wrist joint, and then warm up each finger.
Tip: The muscles of the arm being massaged should be completely relaxed.
The procedure ends with light stroking.
Treatment of inflammation of the joints of the fingers with folk remedies is highly effective, especially in the initial stages of the disease. This therapy relieves symptoms and improves overall well-being. And most importantly, it is absolutely safe and has a minimum of side effects.
For preparation you will need: 200 ml of kefir and 1 raw potato (finely grated). The components are mixed. The course of treatment is 1 month.
Green unpeeled potatoes are crushed and heated to 30-40º. It is laid out on the sore joint in a layer of about 1 cm, wrapped in film, and wrapped. This procedure is performed at night for 7 days.
A glass jar is filled a little more than half with flowers and filled with vodka. Leave in a dark place for 3 weeks. Used to rub joints.
Baths with various herbs and essential oils (St. John's wort, aloe, tea tree oil) ease the condition.
The mixture is heated until it melts. Afterwards it cools down a little. Fingers are dipped into it. Next, apply a compress for 30 minutes.
Warm paraffin improves blood flow in tissues and joints
The onset of arthritis cannot be missed. However, due to being very busy or unwilling to go to the doctor, many delay the process and turn only when the discomfort becomes unbearable. It is important to remember: the sooner treatment begins, the greater the chances of success and complete rehabilitation.

Arthritic changes affect the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints, and, most often, appear as a result of existing diseases. In order not to lose the opportunity to work, do hobbies and take care of yourself at home, you should begin treatment for arthritis of the fingers as soon as the first symptoms appear.
Despite the fact that the inflammatory process in the joints of the fingers can be provoked by various reasons, there are always general signs that may indicate the presence of pathological changes:
Among the reasons that cause inflammation in the joints of the fingers are:
Arthritis of the thumb can be caused by even a single strong load or sudden movement.
Treatment of joint inflammation involves solving several main problems:
The best results in treatment can be achieved when the disease is at an early stage. However, diagnosing arthritis at the very beginning can be quite difficult.
Drug therapy should be comprehensive, combining various groups of drugs, and carried out under the strict supervision of a specialist. Otherwise, not only will it not bring the expected results, but the time needed to take action will be lost.
This group includes ketonal, ibuclin, voltaren, indomethacin, ibuprofen.
The type of drug, course duration, frequency of administration and dosage are selected by the doctor, depending on the general clinical picture, severity of the disease and concomitant pathologies.
During an exacerbation, physiotherapeutic procedures are contraindicated, but when the process is brought under control and treatment is started, the combination of medications and physiotherapy gives a good overall effect.
For arthritis of the finger joints, the following are indicated:
The choice of procedures and exercises directly depends on the cause of the disease. Infectious arthritis is treated with ultraviolet irradiation, electrophoresis, and ultrasound.
For gouty arthritis, UV irradiation, UHF, mud therapy, electrophoresis with analgin, aspirin, novocaine are recommended.
Traumatic arthritis is treated with UHF, magnetic therapy, phonophoresis with hydrocortisone, followed by paraffin treatment, mud, hydrogen sulfide and iodine-bromine baths.
Massaging your hands and fingers will help relieve tension, improve blood circulation, and reduce congestion in the joints.
To perform the massage, you need to sit comfortably, leaning your back on the back of a chair or wall.
During the self-massage session, breathing should be even and deep.
Exercise therapy for arthritis includes a number of simple exercises to alleviate the condition and stimulate positive dynamics in treatment.
The Dr. Bubnovsky Center operates in the Moscow region, the founder of which has developed his own method of treating arthritis through physical exercise.
On the Center’s website you can familiarize yourself with the services and read reviews from real patients.
The following will help improve the condition of joints, relieve pain and relieve inflammation, and restore cartilage tissue.
It is necessary to refuse:
Meals should be fractional, you should not overeat or starve, you must drink enough water and keep your body weight under control.
At home, you can relieve the symptoms of arthritis with the help of folk recipes, but they cannot replace full-fledged medical therapy.
Folk remedies help alleviate the condition and relieve pain, but do not stop the pathological processes in the joint.
To prevent arthritis, you must:
If you experience the first signs of arthritis in your fingers, you should seek medical advice. If you don’t know which doctor to contact, start with a therapist: based on the results of blood and urine tests, he will be able to recommend that you consult a highly specialized specialist.
The joints of the fingers are subject to a lot of stress every day, as they perform all the fine motor skills of the hands.
As a result, the joints of the hands are often susceptible to various diseases.
Let us consider in more detail the symptoms of inflammation of the joints of the fingers and methods of treating this disease.
Most often, inflammation of the joints of the fingers develops for the following reasons:
1. Progression of Raynaud's syndrome. In this case, the joints of the fingers will not only become inflamed, but also go numb. Most often, this disease is diagnosed in pianists, as they place enormous stress on their fingers.
2. Polyosteoarthrosis of the finger joints is also called “knobby finger disease.” This pathology affects people aged from forty to fifty years. It is female representatives who are most susceptible to polyarthrosis.
This disease accounts for almost half of all diagnosed cases of inflammation of the finger joints.
3. Rheumatoid arthritis usually affects people over the age of thirty. Moreover, statistics indicate that women suffer from it five times more often than men.
Rheumatoid arthritis develops after infectious diseases, hypothermia, flu or severe nervous shock.
4. Psoriatic arthritis can affect people of all ages. As a rule, it is diagnosed in patients who have previously had manifestations of psoriasis (the presence of dry crusts and spots on the skin that began to peel off over time).
5. Gout is more common in the male sex. It usually develops on the joints of the legs (ankle and knee), gradually affecting the hands and joints (phalanxes) of the fingers.
This disease can be asymptomatic for quite a long time, only occasionally manifesting itself. For this reason, in most cases it is diagnosed in an already chronic form.
6. Tenosynovitis is a disease in which the ligaments of small muscles in the area of the fingers become inflamed. Most often, this pathology affects the thumb.
Tenosynovitis can be diagnosed in men and women, regardless of age.
7. Rhizarthrosis affects the joints of the fingers. As a rule, the joint of the thumb, which connects the wrist joint and the metacarpal bone, suffers most from this disease.
The cause of rhizarthrosis is considered to be severe fatigue or constant stress on the fingers. It is also often confused with Tenosynovitis, since the symptoms of these pathologies are more than 80% similar.
8. Arthrosis of the finger joints is often diagnosed in programmers, secretaries and pianists, that is, people who put active stress on their fingers every day. In this case, this disease affects the interphalangeal joints.
According to its form, arthrosis can be primary or secondary.
Primary arthrosis can develop due to the following factors:
• malnutrition of cartilage;
• genetic predisposition to arthrosis;
• taking certain medications;
• wear and tear of the finger joints.
Tuesday arthrosis develops for the following reasons:
• gout that cannot be treated;
• various diseases of the endocrine system;
• metabolic disease;
• lack of useful microelements;
• previous injuries.
Depending on the cause of the disease, inflammation of the joints of the fingers may have the following symptoms and manifestations:
1. When affected by polyosteoarthrosis, small nodules form on the patient’s fingers (near the growth of the nails). Usually they have a symmetrical arrangement (located in the same places on the left and right hands).
When these nodules form, a person may feel pain and burning in the hands. In some cases, the new growths turn red and become denser.
2. Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by swelling of the finger joints. Inflammation may also be accompanied by impaired motor function, pain and the appearance of a crunch in the phalanges of the fingers.
Painful sensations are usually observed in the evening and at night. The nature of the pain is aching, sharp.
In addition, a person may suffer from fever, chills, weakness and sleep disturbances.
3. When fingers are affected by psoriatic arthritis, severe swelling forms on the affected joints. At the same time, they become more like sore sausages.
The inflammation itself can occur on any one finger or several fingers at once. The nature of the location of inflammation can be different (symmetric and asymmetric).
4. Gouty arthritis has a wave-like course. In this case, the pain is paroxysmal and occurs unexpectedly (usually at night). The affected joint itself in this state turns red and swells. Motor function is partially impaired.
5. Tenosynovitis is accompanied by pain at the base of the thumb joint, which occurs spontaneously or after exercise. The disease lasts a long time, slowly affecting the joint.
6. As arthrosis progresses, joint tissues dry out and begin to crack. Noticeable nodules develop under the skin. As a rule, such neoplasms no longer go away.
If arthrosis is not treated, the bone tissue of the thumb in the affected joints begins to harden. Growths develop on it. Because of this, a person loses the ability to move his fingers. Gradually, crunching, swelling and severe pain develop.
If the first symptoms of inflammation of the finger joints occur, you should contact a traumatologist as soon as possible. Usually, the doctor notices all signs of the disease immediately (swelling, impaired movement, redness, etc.). To confirm the diagnosis, the specialist needs to collect an anamnesis of the disease and order the following studies:
1. Ultrasound of the affected fingers.
2. General blood test.
Drug treatment is selected based on the patient’s symptoms and the cause that caused inflammation of the finger joints.
Traditional therapy includes the following:
1. At the initial stage of neglect, inflammation can be treated with warm compresses and physiotherapy.
2. If there are signs of inflammation, anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed.
3. If the patient has a characteristic crunch in the joints, then he may be prescribed some drugs for intra-articular administration and electrophoresis.
4. For severe pain, analgesics are used.
5. At high temperatures, antipyretic drugs should be prescribed.
6. In case of chronic pathology, the patient may be prescribed repeated courses of anti-inflammatory drugs.
7. Chondroprotectors and calcium are sometimes used.
8. It is very useful to use drugs to restore and strengthen joint tissues.
9. Non-steroidal drugs (Diclofenac, Ketoprofen, etc.) are often used.
10. If indicated, steroid medications and injections may be prescribed. They will relieve inflammation and pain.
It is also recommended to apply a tight bandage to the sore joint, thus fixing all movements. During the period of exacerbation of the disease, the patient should remain in bed and eat well.
If the disease is not very advanced, you can practice traditional medicine. Her best recipes for joint inflammation are:
